I travel a LOT. Â When I'm in a strange town, my mission is often to find a dive bar where I feel at home. Â That's not always easy. Â I often walk into a local dive bar and the locals look at me like I'm an alien from another world, or, worse yet, a banjo player.
I entered the shack and was greeted warmly by the owner herself, who seemed pleased that I and my party were there, and, indeed, she was. Â This is a restaurant/pub owner who truly enjoys meeting new people, and it shows
The food....was well above average. Â I had the "Shack Burger" and, let me tell you, it was outstanding! Â The beef was fresh and tasty, the toppings were plentiful, and everything was prepared just like I requested. Â I home run on this one.
One of my dining companions had the Cuban sandwich  (Seriously???  A Cuban sandwich in Brookville??  How does that even happen??) and loved every bite of it.  Holly chose a fried fish sandwich and pronounced it very good indeed.
I'd give this place a 5 if I could...yes, I liked it that much! Â But it's smoking. Â We were fortunate to be able to set on the patio and not have our food laced with smoke, but I CAN see where in the winter, when the patio isn't open, this could be an issue.
Overall, a VERY positive experience. Â We'll certainly be back!
