I don't think I've ever had such great fried chicken at a fast food restaurant. The meat was nice and moist and the breading was delcious. We ended up ordering a couple of the combos and everything in them was great. I am definitely a fan of Zaxby's - it's really too bad that we don't have any out here in California because it sounds very tasty right about now.
Review Source:While I wholeheartedly agree with the slogan that Zaxby's is "Indescribably Good" I will attempt to describe its merit in the proceeding paragraphs. I don't have my finger on the pulse of the Swainsboro population, but I can imagine that there was great excitement when this branch opened a stone's throw away from the Super Walmart. Ticker tape parades, dancing in the streets, firecrackers, and the like. With good reason. Zaxby's, from it's humble beginnings in Statesboro, may be the best fast food chain in the game today. There, I said it. Hopefully it will spread throughout Virginia someday.
Chicken is their thing but they have a different take on it than Chick-fil-A does. Their combo meals are not so homogenous and they don't have the ridiculous waffle fries. Their sammiches are also much more innovative. Both the Zaxby's Club and Cajun Club are off the chain. You can't go wrong with chicken, bacon, and American Cheese. You just can't.
With the Meal Dealz, you get a piece of Texas toast and fries. The Texas toast is a great idea. Something about having that toast there makes you feel like you're not eating fast food. You start asking for jelly, using the sporks, folding your napkins, observing table manners usually reserved for TGI Friday, etc. They also have a crushed ice dispenser in the soda fountains. Let's face it. Crushed ice makes for a superior soda drinking experience. Even Tab would taste good if you had crushed ice in it.
The Crinkle Fries are a bit too salty for my taste. It seems like they put a LOT of Lawry's (or something just like it) on them. Them jokers are almost entirely red. Don't get me wrong. I love my Lawry's and have been known to liberally douse Old Bay on my fries. This was just too much, Zaxby's. A slug burst into flames from just crawling near the fries. True story.
The combo I got (Wings 'n Things) came with 5 wings and 4 chicken tenders. I also got 4 pieces of celery to go with my fries and toast. It was a whole lot of food. We also split an order of fried mushrooms. These things were heavenly. Zaxby's also has Onion Rings and freshly made potato chips for App's. The salads all look tasty but I haven't allowed myself to venture that far into their menu yet. Â Â Â
Speaking of wings 'n things, Zaxby's also does wings. Very, very well. I haven't seen a fast food chain do convincing buffalo style wings yet. What's up with that? They aren't that hard to make. Fast food wings are always too dry. These jokers, on the other hand, were moist and delicious. You can choose from 8 different marinades ranging from Wimpy to Insane hotness. You can also get your barbecue, teriyaki, and hot honey mustard marinades if that's how you get down. Zaxby's offers Ranch and their own sauce (kinda like 1000 Island) for dipping. Zaxby's is yet another thing that is so great about the South.
