Today, July 7, 2013 at 3:53 pm, my husband and I went to Zebb's do dine.  We were approached by Melissa G, who took our order of drinks which was 2 Pepsi's and 1 Chocolate Milkshake.  Once she returned with the drinks, we were ready to order both our appetizers and our entrée.  We ordered fried dill pickles, and buffalo wings.  It took at least 25 minutes for our appetizers to be even delivered.  The fried dill pickles were burned, however the buffalo wings were very good.  There were 2 celery sticks served with the buffalo wings which were cut in half and turned down on the plate.  I (being the female) picked up 2 of the celery sticks and ate them, reached for the 3rd (my husband doesn't like them) and when I picked up the 3rd celery stick and turned it over there was some kind of red meat in the center of the celery stick along with some kind of assorted shredded cheese.
Very unusual for us ... we did complain about the pickles and the waitress took them back for a replacement order.  In the meantime, she brought our entrees and my husband's French fries were burned and not eatable.  He did enjoy his steak and steamed broccoli.  By this time, the manager came over to our table and mentioned that he knew we had some trouble with the order of pickles.  He asked if everything else was alright and I said to him verbatim ... "I am highly disappointed; When we come here to eat we are always satisfied."  He said: I am going to take the price of the pickles off your ticket.  He never mentioned anything about trying to make an effort to correct anything else.  I was very disappointed in him as a manager as he seemed very  uninterested.  The waitress was very slow, and that made our experience that much more disappointing.
"IF" we ever return to your restaurant, I certainly hope you have trained a Manager who knows what he's doing AND cares! Â I also hope your waitresses will have learned that the customers waiting for their food is much more important than sweeping the floors. Â My husband and I were seated at Table 107.
Zebb's is not worth the trek, but if you're in the area and looking for a decent meal at a casual restaurant, it gets the job done.
PROS:
- $3.99 for A MILKSHAKE. That is incredibly cheap. Plus they do it true diner style and give you the extra milkshake (which is a decent amount) in another container, so you could easily split it with another person. My vanilla milkshake was super delicious.
- Their burgers come in four different sizes.
NEUTRAL:
By the front entrance they have a stand with different ingredients and condiments you can add to your burger, such as lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. While this seems like a good idea, it's kind of inconvenient to have to wait for your burger to arrive, pick up your dish and bring to the stand, pick your favorite toppings, and go back to your seat. I do like that they don't just give their customers all the toppings with their burger and have some of it end up going to waste, but they really should just ask their customers what toppings they want.
CONS:
- My burger was on the soggy-side.
My husband and I go to Zebb's every Friday for dinner. The third time in, we had the same waitress and she knew what we both order to drink and brought it to us as we were being seated. I was shocked. Now, we go in and she has or drinks and pretty much knows what we order to eat. We do change it slightly but not much. Her name is Gwen, and she is the best waitress ever.
Review Source:For years i grew up around Zebb's. loved all of their food. Moved to NC and raved about the Zebb's original wings, they were my favorite wing of all time(and i am a wing fanatic). Â Return for a meal for the first time 13 years after a. I moved to NC and b. since my father left the company. Â Before we got there we had learned Z Food Service no longer operates it, which you could tell. Â The establishment was dirty, bathrooms were ANNIHILATED, and the glimpse of the kitchen we got was bad. Â The toppings bar wasn't very well maintained and the menu hasn't changed a bit since they added the bbq menu some 15 years or so ago. You'd think with a change of ownership they would update the menu and maybe change the early 90's neon blue color of the exterior. Â The worst part though was the inconsistency of the product. Â Zebb's originals are not the same, the cookies are smaller and lacking the large chunks of chocolate i remember, and a couple of us order burgers which looked as if they were off in size from each other. Â The reason i put 2 stars is because the server was friendly and had actually been working there for nearly 20 years (yes that long), and it was nice to see the restaurant i grew up around. Which that is one of their problems aswell, the place looks exactly the same way it did 13 years ago and well, when it first opened. To the new owners, I hope ya'll do a little 21st century updating other than adding a few flat screens. It's sad to have said I miss Zebb's even when i was sitting in a booth there last summer.
Review Source:This isn't the greatest place you can go, but it isn't the worst either.
The decor needs some updating. Â I know that they are going on the whole diner theme but when I go in and see the same pictures in the same spots (now color bleached by the sun) that I did 15 years ago, it is a little sad. Â I did notice, as one reviewer pointed out, that it was a little dirty the last time I went but it was three days before Christmas in the midst of a lunch rush with shoppers so I had passed it off as the situation.
The Zebb Original Wings are great for anyone who dips their hot wings in blue cheese because they combine the two and coat the wing in the mix, saving you that extra hassle. Â The burgers here are pretty tasty and the fries are fresh cut which is always a plus in my book.
Defnitely not the best place in the world but if you're looking for a casual lunch then it's not the worst place either.
My experiences don't quite match those of the other reviewers. I agree, it's nothing special. It's a diner with diner food trying hard not to be a diner with diner food. But it's still a diner. But here's the bottom line - DON'T SIT IN THE DINING ROOM. Sit in the bar area. The service is better and much faster.
Now, I've never had anything other than burgers, fries and wings. The burgers have been really good, really really good and not good. The fries are consistently good and the wings are decent (Piggy Pats are way better, if you're a wing fan looking for wings). I usually wash all this down with a Utica Club because, yes, they have it on tap. I never, ever drink that beer. Ever. But, there's something about getting it on tap. Something buried deep in my psyche tells me to get it, and to get the large one, not the pint.
Anyway. This is decent and it is worth a visit, in my opinion. But don't sit in the dining room. Just don't do it to yourself. Sit in the bar area - which means don't bring kids because they won't have anyplace to sit.
I'm giving it three stars because, if we're in a hurry and we're in the area at an odd time of day, we can always get a seat and be in and out in less than an hour. That and the food is decent, if you stick to their specialties (burgers, wings, meat loaf.... diner food). I've had good servers there and I only recall having a bad one when we ate in the dining room. So again, avoid the dining room.
It's a diner, food is generally hit or miss on any given day. Â Service is often sluggish. Â
Burgers are always a good bet. Â Zebb wings are tasty and unique. Â
I'd be more of a regular if it wasn't so pricey for a burger and fries. Â It deserves better than the one star reviews though.
Well, Zebbs started out good. Â That is, we walked in the door and it smelled great. Â It was all downhill from there. Â We were seated in a booth that wasn't quite large enough for our party of 8, so we sat people at the end of the table. Â Our waitress seemed irritated with us the whole time, snapping at my niece because she interrupted her by asking for a drink as the waitress was taking our orders. Â The food was fine. Â Not great, not awful. Â Of course, our waitress went missing at the critical moment, the point when all 5 kids were done with their food, and done being anywhere you need to sit down, and we just wanted to get our check and go. Â The last straw was when she eventually showed up and gave us the check and started clearing our plates, I was trying to help her out by passing things her way, and I knocked over a cup full of ice cold soda onto my lap. Â As I reeled from the chill of the soda soaking through my pants, around my thigh, and into the back of my pants, I squeeked, "Ooh. Â It's sooo cold." Â (Getting used to the California climate and visiting family during an upstate NY winter, btw.) Â And what was her response? Â Did she quickly try and clean the soda up or the booth I was sitting on up? Â Did she offer me some napkins? Â She DID scoop the cup up to take away. Â I managed to grab some flimsy napkins from the holder on the table to fruitlessly blot at my pants. Â And before she (almost immediately) left she said, "I'm glad I didn't do it." Â Thanks a lot. Â Enough said.
