Ok. I slept on this one. I buy shisha here sometimes because it's on the way home and it's open late. It's good stuff, too.

I always wanted to stay and hang out. It looks really cool. It's been said--cool lighting. It has kind of an industrial vibe in the front of the building and a house-of-the-rising-sun kind of vibe in the back and in the loft. You can even smoke your shisha through a piece of fruit. Cool. So last night I stayed to try out some food and watch NBA game 7. (yay, now I get to see even MORE Heat jerseys in Michigan! Ugh.)

Food was good. I got a lamb shawarma. Everything was fine. It would be great to bring a group of people here, draw the white curtains, and have a wild time. Woo!

So why 1 star? This is a major red flag to the management/owners. I would have given you  4 1/2 stars easy. Your prices are good. The vibe is spot on. Why 1 star?

HOW DARE YOU NOT PROVIDE TAP WATER. I got thirsty. That was the beginning of the end. I asked my waitress for a glass of water.

She said, "we only have bottled water, is that ok?"

I said, "No. It's not. I don't drink bottled water. I see a faucet back there, would you please just fill a glass with regular tap water?"

She replied, "I'm sorry. It's the management's rules. We only serve bottled water."

"Fine. I'll take a diet coke."

You don't serve bottled water. Ok. Cool. I get it. You're worried people are going to be a bunch of cheap skates and sit there in your cool booths and drink nothing but tap water at the expense of profitable drinks. Hell, charge a quarter or something. Do ANYTHING but what you're doing. Let me be the first to say: mandatory bottled water makes you look like a bunch of niggardly assholes. There. I said it. You put off the vibe like you're the damnable Rush Street of Ann Arbor. Let that place burn down. Change this now--and not just for business.

I'm not cheap. My 40 dollar food/shisha tab by myself should have honed you in to the fact that I'm there to spend money liberally.  I don't drink bottled water because I'm thrifty. I don't drink bottled water because IT'S AN EVIL FUCKING INDUSTRY. I'm supposed to drink my bottle of water and then throw it away because beverage lobbyists pump millions into states to keep it so they're not included in state bottle bills? Well fuck you, I'm from oregon. I prefer not to clog the oceans with plastic. Call me what you want, but I'm not myopic, and I'm not drinking your fucking bottle of water. Change this immediately. Then I'll let bygones be bygones and bump you up to 5 stars.

There's an entire movie on this, as well as some really good books, but here, kids--watch this: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.adventure-journal.com%2F2010%2F04%2Fthe-evils-of-bottled-water-communicated-nicely%2F&s=fd0178984dfe29e889024f2f3838eb0c31f6ba9c1179f247c41c997dd23282bc" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.adventure-jou…</a>

This place is basically a mix of everything that is Dearborn: the interior design is industrial diner; the food is a mix of Arabic and American; and the soundtrack is decidedly gangster rap.

The hookah selection is pretty extensive and you can customize them with a bunch of add-ons. The melon flavor I got was nice and smooth; my friend's mango was burned and harsh.

To eat, we ordered the nachos, which was mediocre. To drink, my friend and I ordered tea with mint; it was decent, but it would've been nice to have it served with fresh mint leaves. My friend ordered a mango juice, and it tasted canned; avoid.

My only real gripe with the place: the music was WAY TOO LOUD. WE HAD TO YELL OVER IT IN ORDER TO HEAR EACH OTHER. The hardcore rap didn't really match the environment, but since the music is chosen by the customers, I can't really blame the management.

This place has a cool, industrial, contemporary type of atmosphere. Great place to light up a hookah, have an espresso, and bring your laptop because it's a free WiFi hotspot! I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they are open very late. They told me they were open until 3am on a recent June Thursday night, so I would imagine thy are open until 3am Thursday to Saturday and probably pretty late offnights as well. Timing like that along wit WiFi could make it a great study area as well. While it's loud in the evening to early hours, the Thursday night I went in around 1am, it was pretty quiet.

The hookah is priced around $14-15 from what I recall, which is at the middle to higher end, and caffeinated beverages carry a premium tag as well. But as usual, you are paying for the comfy, secure, and hip ambiance. It's a spacious venue, and the staff is actually very attentive and courteous.

The one time I had food here, I was not impressed with the quality or quantity of it. This is typical in Dearborn. Places either fall in one of two categories - cool hookah/coffee/hummus hangout with mediocre food, or authentic food in a more restaurant atmosphere. One of the few places that was able to combine both (great hookah, beverages, and MidEast cuisine) is Sinbad.

Overall a good place, if you like this place, then another place you my want to hang & hookah at is "Midnight Espresso Cafe" nearby. I felt their beverages, food, and hookahs were of slightly better quality. However I felt the staff was more courteous and attentive here, and the later hours available here (so you can hookah after barhopping here). So this place still gets a cumulative 4-stars from me.
