Being in a strip mall I wasn't expecting too much. Â Also upon walking in, it kind of looks like a diner. Â I mean the front has a very diner feel, the sides have 2 person tables(with personal tv's that can be turned to different channels without disturbing anyone else), there is a bar at the back. Â That being said, I find this place as more of a dinner and try out a few beers place, as compared to being a saddle up and drink all night spot.
The food was pretty darn good. Â I had the veal parm with linguine. Â It was spaghetti, but honestly I didn't care. Â The veal was so tender and delicious, the sauce was good as well. Â Not too sugery, and had some nice tomato chunks.
They have a good assortment of craft and marco brews. Â I love that they had Miller High Life (my favorite "cheap" beer), but I wanted something new. Â Got a Victory Summer Ale. Â Not bad.
Prices are pretty good too. Â 2 people will average around $60. Â Free jello for the kids as well.
Possibly the worst meal I have ever had. Ordered 2 appetizers and the potstickers were still frozen. The clams were covered in some weird cheese and cold. Â Ordered 2 captain and diet cokes. Got 2 regular cokes. Then dinner came. A literally raw hamburger and a sliced pork sandwich that had a layer of fat that you couldn't bite through. The only good part was the night manager who bought our "meal" and "drinks". She was sweet and very kind. The waitress never even left the bar where she was "mingling" with the locals. DO NOT GO THERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A GOOD HEALTH INSURANCE PROVIDER.
Review Source:There were 15 people in our party tonite and Ashley took care of all of us. What a fabulous waitress. She even remembered what everyone was drinking! So when you visit this place ask for Ashley because she is fantastic server. Â We only gave it 3 stars this visit because the pizza wasn't as good as our last visit. But no worry we'll be going back.
Review Source:When I grew up in NJ, I loved to drink beer but never really had a taste for it. I thought Corona was a quality brew. After living in Colorado (the Napa Valley of beer) for the past seven years, I have become a bit of a beer snob. My years visits to Jersey have resulted in much complaining about the horrible beer selection in the area. Last year my father took me to a place that had 20 beers on tap, the best one being Yuengling- booo. That said, I went into Acme Draft House not expecting too much. As soon as I opened the beer menu, I was blown away by their selection. I'm an IPA man and I had quite a few to chose from- along with an Acme IPA, there were two local Jersey brews, a Lagunitas, and a 90 minute from Dogfish Head. I didn't think the house IPA was the best, but the fact that they had it rates high in my book.
I can't say much about the food, as that wasn't the point of the trip. I got a cesar salad with steak and my wife got one with chicken. Neither were orgasmic, but we didn't complain about the taste either- they did their job of preventing us from drinking on an empty stomach.
The service was awesome! When we first got there, we were pretty much by ourselves in a booth by the window. The waitress was friendly, on-point, and consistant. When I asked about a specific brewing company, she informed that she didn't know much information, but that she would ask the bartender. Less than two minutes later the bartender was at our table discussing breweries, IBU's, and other things beer.
I only visit this area maybe once per year, but from what I've found this is the only place within 25 miles that offers a fair selection of beer.
Note: I gave this place five stars by Jersey beer standards. If the Acme Draft House were in Boulder, San Francisco, or Portland it may have only gotten 3 stars.
Me and my fiance decided to try this place one night based on a reccommendation from a friend. We've been back at least 10 times since. This is our new favorite place to eat out. They have something for everyone. Great comfort food and even better prices. The staff was so nice and we never had to ask for anything. We really appreciate an enjoyable night out and part of that is not having to flag down a server for a drink or napkins. I rarely ever write reviews but this place was worth getting the word out about. It's not much to look at from the outside but you can never judge a book by it's cover. That line holds true with this restaurant. Make it a point to visit this place, you won't be sorry.
Review Source:I am giving this 5 stars..because they areonly open 6 weeks, have a great menu, atmosphere is so needed in this location, service was excellent, prices were cheap and you have your own tv in the booths by the bar.
My husband and I wanted a quick bite before we headed home from the shore for the weekend. We didn't feel like the diner or chinese buffet nor italian- we decided to give it try.
My husband had few beers which he was loving because of the cold tap. Which isn't always the case. We had a burger, onion rings, order of boneless wings. The burger and onion rings were great. Boneless wings well...were like chuncks of chicken fried - not the best but they didn't call them chicken tenders so I was not totally dissappointed. Just wish the chicken was a little better. Stil I am not going to hold it against them because the portion was great.
The menu looks great..would game to try pizza or one one of the salads next time.
The place has a great atmosphere with many tvs showing comcast + Â direc tv - the severs were so nice. It will be a great neighborhood bar to go for a beer and an apps... especially if you don't feel like going to the waters edge.
My friends and I are serious beer geeks. Â When we're not drinking beer we're either reading about it or talking about it.
So when a place with a name like 'Draft House' pops up a couple blocks from your house, within walking distance, you get pretty enthused. Â I've been watching for months as the place has been prepared for it's opening.
Yesterday was the opening, and, needless to say, I was there. Â Twice. Â First right after work in mid-afternoon, then later that night with my wife and friends for dinner.
First, the interior is great. Â It's got a classy look without feeling stuffy. Â There are a number of signature New Jersey diner style booths along the wall, a generous walk-around bar, and a few tables. Â
I was mostly interested in the beer list. Â I was saddened to see most of the taps were reserved for the same old stuff, the Bud and the Miller Light and the PBR. Â Of the twenty taps, probably thirteen of them were all macro brews. Â Not a good sign.
The bottle list was a little better, but not by much. Â There was nothing there to really blow me away.
I wanted to see how the staff was with their beer knowledge, so I asked what the alcohol content was for the Dogfish Head 60-minute IPA. Â I know it to be around 6%. Â The bartender proudly announced it was well over 9%. Â I chose not to correct her. Â I then watched one of the other bartender make a 5oz pour that was 2/3 head and put it up on the bar for someone. Â I tried to, very nicely, tell her that the pour she gave my fellow bar fly was unacceptable, and the bartender explained to me that it was first night as a bartender, ever. Â I asked if the owners explained any of the beer to her, and she said they hadn't.
I noticed that there were two 'house brand' beers in bottles; the Acme Pale Ale and Acme IPA. Â A little redundant, but, hey, it's beer. I asked another bartender about those beers and he didn't even know they were on they were on the list, let alone who made them, where they were made, or what they were made of.
A bad start.
Also, there are a lot of beers missing from this list. Â There are no saisons, my personal favorites, and the heavy beers, the porters and Russian IS were missing. Â I guess they feel Guiness is good enough.
I returned with my wife later that night and took over the high-boys in the back. Â Now, it's opening night, so I want to try to forgive a lot of mistakes, but we had no waitress for more than 20 minutes. Â When we ordered beers, both from the bottle list, the waitress took the bottles, slammed them on the table, and ran away before I could even ask for a glass. Â When she returned more than 10 minutes later, I explained to her that the good beer should be served in a glass. Â She delivered two chilled glasses about five minutes later, and left.
Now, the food was BAD. Â We ordered the Irish Nachos as an appetizer, which are homemade chips with cheese and bacon. Â The bacon was uncooked and soggy. Â I sent it back and got the same order back with cooked bacon on it. Â Needless to say, the chips were cold and greasy.
The rest of the food wasn't very good, and it took more than hour to get our meals.
If the Acme Draft House is looking to be a cool beer bar, they aren't going to make it. Â They have a mundane beer list, uninformed staff, and food I would categorize as lousy bar-fare. Â For my money, I'll head out to the Jackson Surf Taco where they seem to 'get it.'
