We were very happy with our first meal at Acre last night. Our server Ashley was attentive and quick. Not over the top, just right. That being said we did purposefully make our reservation after the dinner rush. We ordered two of the new seasonal cocktails, my husband liked the "Jessie's girl" and I loved the Pear - Prosecco cocktail. We started with the cheese plate. The bread and fresh butter were great as was the apple chutney. I wish the nuts had been candied or something, the saltiness did not mesh with the cheeses. Â We then ordered the ceviche and the shrimp and grits. My husband loved the ceviche and I am now a believer in shrimp and grits. It was the best I have ever had to date. Beautifully presented and the shrimp were perfect. The grits were in a crispy cake form and then it was set in a pool of lemon butter sauce. We then decided to split the burger and we wish we hadn't. Â We do have to say it was our least favorite of all the items we tried and a little overdone. I was sad to end the wonderful meal with that little disappointment. Â That being said we can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Best meal I have ever eaten. You need to make a reservation. As soon as we arrived, we were seated. Our waitress - I think her name was Barrett? - was sweet and helped explain the menu. The menu changes daily. I had red snapper w/ crawfish butter over grits and my boyfriend had the soft shell crab poboy. SO GOOD! Both! I had one of their cocktails, too - can't remember the name, but it was delicious. Highly recommend! Everything was perfect - service, food, ambiance. Can't wait to go back.
Review Source:I wanted to give this restaurant a higher star rating, but as of my first visit, its not there yet. I really think the issue is better employee training to ensure quality control. Â First, the bread came out and good bread is typically a good read on whats to come next. It was stale and chewy. I think it had been sitting under the lights for hours. Our server or someone should have noticed this. Â My candied walnut salad was good and fresh. Our meals were good - nothing to blow us out of the water but good. For my husband, it was not enough food (he got the sea diver scallops). Â The bread pudding was fantastic, but the fried pie fell short. The pastry chef had dumped waaay to much of the lemon sauce on the bottom of the plate, and it soaked through the pie's bottom making it overly tart and inedible. Â It could have used some ice cream, or something to complement it. Â All in all, I will chalk it up to being new and will try again in a few months. Â From other people I have talked to, it seems to be inconsistent in its execution as of yet. The potential is there, I am hoping its fulfilled!
Review Source:I was pretty impressed with the spinach strawberry salad. High quality blue cheese, bacon, strawberries, walnuts, dressing...well it was just perfect, actually! I also liked the tomato soup and pimento cheese slider. Service was a little slow despite our group dining early in the evening. I was in the mood for a light dinner and this fit the bill and was reasonable for the quality (~$15 for soup & salad). The entrees sounded nice and are a bit pricey, so I can see myself returning again for a special occasion.
Review Source:Went to Acre last night around 8 p.m. for dinner. Â I order the cheese plate. Â It was average. Â The cheeses were not explained and I had to ask twice for the bread that was part of the plate. Â The nuts on the cheese board consisted of some good-looking pecans but then there was a bunch of honey-roasted peanuts, too. Â They seems out of place. Â The service was mediocre. Â On the upside -- it is a beautiful restaurant and the wine list extensive. Â We did split a blueberry bread pudding that was wonderful. I will wait a few weeks and give Acre another shot.
Review Source:Let me first say that my expectations were really high after everything I had heard. They were almost met but not quite.
I had the spinach and strawberry salad to start. I will say that I think this was one of the best spinach salads I've ever had. The blue cheese was extremely high quality. The strawberries were perfectly ripe and sweet. Perfection. I also had the creamy tomato soup with pimiento cheese sliders on pretzel rolls. The pimiento cheese sliders were definitely good. The tomato soup was good too but not extraordinary like I expected. Again, you could tell how fresh the soup was...made from tomatoes grown by the Chef. Neither of the people I was with just loved their meal. The snapper was a little too done, apparently and the scallops were described as "just okay". Maybe they're picky. :) My biggest complaint was the service. Our server was fake and way too over the top. It didn't make for a relaxing meal.
I can't wait to return and try something else (and a new server). I think I'm going to be a regular and I'm hoping to change this 4-stars to 5-stars. The Hound is still my favorite in Auburn but I have high hopes for Acre!
Absolutely amazing. Had the shrimp and grit cake to start, followed by the scallop pasta (husband had the flatiron steak), and concluded with the guava bread pudding. All were perfectly cooked, and the flavors were incredible. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful too. This place truly rivals great restaurants in much larger cities. Probably the best meal I've had this year!
Review Source:Auburn finally has a restaurant worthy of acclaim. Acre is newly opened and with a menu that rivals few southern foodie establishments. It is on par with several of Alabama's award winning establishments such as Hot and Hot Fish Club, Highlands Bar & Grill and Bottega. Tonight we had excellent service and great food which was probably the best I have ever had in Auburn. I would highly recommend Acre.
