We both ordered the Añejo margaritas and the salmon. For starters they brought chips and salsa. They were both spot on, the salsa having just enough heat and a balance of cilantro and fresh pepper. The margaritas were delicious and big. The salmon was EXTRAORDINARY. We are both foodies and this was such a great meal that we just keep thinking about going back for more before we leave. I would drive an hour + from home just to come down and have this meal! That good.
Review Source:The only reason I give this place a 3 is because of the service. Our waitress was cool at first, but that quickly dissipated. She was not attentive at all. My water and drink glass were empty for a long time and I had to ask for something else. Each time we had to call her over to get something else. I understand that places get busy, but I had the feeling like she wanted us to leave for some unbeknownst reason. I always tip 20%, but that got adjusted down with each time we were basically ignored....so if she reads this, just be aware that you get good tips from me based on good service...will get next to nothing if I feel like you want me out of there.
Anyway. Â The food was delicious, Carne asada cut like butter and was flavorful. The alcohol pours were light. I always ask for light ice in my drinks because I don't like watered down alcohol, but didn't get what I wanted. Nothing special about the margaritas, would have expected better from a Mexican restaurant. The place does draw a crowd though.
I've been to Anejo a lot at this point and I have never been disappointed. Â The guacamole made in front of you is perfect, mostly because you can specify how you like it. Â It is the perfect restaurant for light eating and drinks or a larger meal. Â The food portions are large but not ridiculous and the drinks are worth every penny. Â Margaritas are great but the sangria is amazing with hints of tequila. Â I've always had very pleasant wait staff and never waited too long for food or drinks to come out.
Anejo's atmosphere is great! Â Very cool on the inside and the outdoor seating is definitely a plus on such a pretty street. Â I get to the Cape about every otherweekend in the Spring/Summer if I can, and I've tried a number of restaurants in and around Falmouth. Â I always come back because know that Anejo is consistently good and I love bringing new people there for a good time.
I like Anejo even though I'm a little confused as to what they consider themselves, the look a decor would lead you to believe they want to be a little more upscale bistro but the menu both the items and the actual menu make it appear a little more like a chain restaurant.
As the name states the drinks are heavily tequila based, I tried the La Paloma, nice mix of tequila and natural fruit flavors. Â The bartender had a slightly heavy hand and the tequila stood out.
For dinner I had the Anejo burrito with the pork. Â Meat was flavorful and moist, burrito was well put together and did not fall apart as I snacked on it. Â Portion size was also very generous, I was more than full after demolishing the entire thing.
Service was good, waitress was a little on the young side but was very sweet and efficient. Â Hostess staff was also friendly and fun.
All in all one of the best restaurants in Falmouth and definitely worth a visit if you're on the Cape.
Who knew you could actually get decent Mexican food on the Cape. We have been pleasantly surprised by how solid this place is since we moved to the Cape a few months ago. Margaritas are great, and the specials (especially the fish with fresh corn and chili verde sauce) are delicious. Their mole sauce is actually comparable to the homemade one by one of my Mexican friends from East LA. Prices are on the high side, but the portions are huge, and we usually have leftovers to take home
Review Source:My wife and I went on a Wednesday night in early May and was pleasantly surprised how quaint the inside was. The small tables were close together and made me wonder how the waitresses squeeze through. But they do and remain friendly the entire time. We had a table next to the busy bar and, with the restaurant about 80% full around 5:30, it was loud (on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 7). But it was a "fun" loud if you know what I mean - everyone was happy and enjoying themselves.
My beef chimmy was a large portion filled with a multitude of traditional ingredients but I felt it lacked flavor - nothing that made me say "that was great!" The margarita was good but needed a little more kick from Taquilla. My wife had the fish tacos - you either like fish tacos or you don't. She loved them and for me, not my cup of tea. Nothing Mexican or southwestern about them (maybe they're not supposed to be).
Anyway, will definitely give them a second try.
Great food and great drinks. If you don't like VERY NOISY restaurants, your best bet is takeout or going there for lunch and sitting outside. The noise level is almost intolerable at night. Also the portions are very different depending on what you order. The Ahi Tuna tostada looked like an appetizer compared to the shrimp and pasta dish or the chimmichanga. Not that I've ever left hungry ....
Review Source:We got there at 6:15 on Thursday May 24th. Â I was expecting a mostly empty place in that it was early, not a weekend, and not summer season. Â We got a table without waiting, but the place was 90% full. Â By the time we left, people were waiting for tables. Â It was too cold for anyone to be eating outside.
I could have given this place either 3 or 4 stars, the service just tipped it over the edge to 3 stars.
Our waitress was extremely friendly. Â She had another waitress in tow who was in training. Â You would think that if you were training someone, you would fill a water glass when it was empty and ask if we wanted more chips after we completely emptied the first basket. Â Sadly she did not.
The chips and salsa were fresh and very good.
First up were two house margaritas on the rocks. Â The quantity of liquid was good. Â The ratio of tequila to other liquid was OK, but it could have used a tiny bit more tequila for my taste, but my wife thought is was fine. Â For my taste, I though it has a bit too much lime, but overall it was a good margarita. Â However, at $9.50, I have had better for less money.
The room was very noisy and it was somewhat hard to carry on a conversation across the table.
I had a pork chimmy. Â It was clearly made with fresh ingredients and delivered hot to the table. Â It had lots of meat, but lacked flavor. Â The rice and beans were unremarkable.
My wife had a pulled pork burrito with Verde sauce. Â She liked the sauce so much it caused her to give high marks to the burrito. Â Rice was also rated unremarkable. Â By the time I got to taste some of it, the sauce was all gone. Â My piece had a big glob of cheese, and the shell seemed mushy, Â Again, the ingredients seemed high quality and fresh.
With only one drink, one dish, and nothing else, $25 per person is a bit on the high side.
Definitely a fan of Anejo. Love the chips/salsa and the table side guac! The waitresses are friendly and helpful and you can't go wrong with one of their many margarita drink specials! Definitely try the grilled shrimp tacos and chicken tortilla soup.
Keep in mind that this is one of the newer restaurants in town, so on the weekends and during the summer months, it can get extremely busy. Always shoot for a table outside so you can people watch and enjoy the beautiful Cape Cod weather :)
The food here is pretty solid, although it is very Tex-Mex as opposed to authentic Mexican - but I like Tex-Mex, and it is reasonably priced. Â The drink menu is very good, but they are expensive- the cheapest margarita is $9.50. Â I would have given this place 4 stars, except the service is not great and the people who work here just aren't that nice. Â It gets crowded, go early.
Review Source:Two years later...still a disappointment.
Our friends decided to have a going away dinner at Anejo so we were forced to give it another go. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised, but the food was still meh, overpriced, and left much to be desired.
This time I was pregnant so I got to try out their 'virgin' margarita. Pretty much undrinkable. Tasted like they poured a bottle of store-bought lime juice in a glass and added ice. So tart I had to ask for some sweetener, but it still didn't cover up the fact that they clearly hadn't used any fresh lime juice.
I got the fish tacos. Last time I remember the taco platter being so large (even for a veggie taco) that I had a hard time eating everything. Things have obviously changed because everyone who ordered tacos (we all got different kinds) was still hungry and found them to be rather bland in flavor. No joke, I had better fish tacos at an Irish pub in Sagamore. Also, I noticed a pasta dish on the menu? Seriously? You'd think they'd try to stick with authentic Mexican...especially given all the tongue-in-cheek local commentary about how genius it is to combine Mexican and Italian cuisines at a restaurant.
It's winter, so the place was certainly not packed like it is in the summer. While our server was friendly, she spent more time gossiping with the other high maintenance ditzes at the hostess station than ever checking on us. We had to ask for chips. We had to ask for refills. It was just frustrating to sit there always wondering where she was only to notice 3-4 staff just hanging out by the entrance.
I will not go back here unless someone drags me.
I went with two friends to Anejo this past Saturday. Â We arrived early, around 5:00, and were glad we did because it started to get busy quickly. Â It's not a very big restaurant, so I can imagine there can be a wait on weekend nights even during the off season. Â But, having to sit at the bar and sip a fabulous cocktail while waiting wouldn't be a travesty.
Our waitress was extremely well informed about both the food and the tequilas. Â She was friendly and patient. Â We started with Mango Caliente margaritas and a raspberry mojito. Â The margaritas were the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Â The mojito was refreshing. Â Our waitress told us that all the mixes for the drinks were made in house and it certainly tasted that way. Â We ordered Queso fundido anejo for an appetizer - a cauldron of steaming cheese, chorizo, and grilled polano peppers and onions, served with flour tortillas. Â Absolutely delicious! Â The quahog rellenos sounded like a really interesting combination, but the cornbread they were stuffed with was too sweet and really threw off the balance of seafood, smokey, and spicy.
I ordered the special : duck carnitas. Â They were good but nothing "special". Â My friends ordered: Â casa salad, lobster Mac and cheese, and chicken tacos. Â The salad had an interesting mix of TexMex ingredients: grilled corn, black beans, and oven roasted tomatoes, with some non-traditional ingredients such as green apple and blue cheese. Â The strange combination really worked, the oven roasted tomatoes were especially delicious. Â The lobster M&C was really good. Â Nice chunks of lobster, chorizo, and creamy without being overly gloppy with cheese. Â I also had a paradiso margarita made with passion fruit juice and I asked for it to be a little spicy. Â So yummy. Â I can't wait to go back to Anejo to try more of the menu.
My husband took me here last night and we arrived at around 9:00pm. On Sundays the kitchen closes at 10:00 but we never felt rushed. Immediately after we arrived someone brought over chips, salsa & waters. Not long after that our waitress took our order & clearly knew the menu because she was able to make great drink & food suggestions. I had the prickly pear margarita & my husband ordered the raspberry mojito. Both were excellent. We also had the tableside guacamole, excellent as well! For my meal I ordered the Tablones and my husband ordered the Carnegie tacos. The short ribs melted in my mouth, so tender! My husband loved the tacos as well. Overall we were very happy with our meals and the attentive wait staff & will absolutely return!
Review Source:We came here at around 10pm October 6th when we got into town late. It was welcoming from the street with the open flame heaters out front and it looked like a lively, fun place. Â We were welcomed in by the host and given a seat inside and were brought a great bowl of salsa ans chips to start. We received our meals a while later after the excellent lobster meat egg roll. I had a salad and the best ear of corn of my life and my wife loved her shrimp and avocado salad, "delish" she says. Overall, a very good experience with slightly slow service when we were done the only reason for not giving it five stars.
Review Source:The margaritas were pretty good, the service was excellent, but the food was so-so. The cost was over priced by about 25%. The salsa had no flavor. The pork shank entree really need some  spices. The portion size of the lobster tacos was quite small for the price . The Rojas were good, but again the portions did not fit the price.
Review Source:Holy cow - great Mexican food on the Cape! Â Stopped here coming back from MV on Sunday night. Â House margarita was SO good - fresh lime juice, NOT a mix. Â And trust me, if you like seafood, do not miss the Langosta Enchiladas: ancho orange glazed local lobster, fire roasted corn, chipotle cream sauce, jack cheese, sour cream. Â To die for! Â Good chips and salsa also. Great ambiance, friendly service...apparently it's often packed (and I'm not surprised). Â I can't wait to go back!
Review Source:A beautiful end of summer night celebrated with amazing house margaritas and the trio salsa appetizer. I tried the taco carnitas ( a pork taco with cabbage, pico de gallo and guacamole) and my husband got the enchiladas mole (he said it was very similar to those he tried in Mexico) The service was excellent and the ambience was crowded but friendly. Definitely a good mix of tourists and locals.
Review Source:Hit and miss.
Solid chips and salsa. Â I like a thinner chip, but these were fresh and crispy and the salsa was very good.
Apps were pretty good. Â No home runs.
Guac made tableside had so much potential, but lacked salt (very important in guac) and lime juice. Â All the ingredients were fresh, but the recipe needs to come together.
I thought my wife's carne asada burrito was four stars - I really liked it. Â She was completely unimpressed. Â Found a strand of plastic in our refried beans (I'm assuming from cutting open the pouch they came in, but might not be the case also - maybe it came from somewhere else). Â Still, they were decent, a bit thick, and I'm not offended. Â Few restaurants make everything from scratch, and mistakes happen.
I also really liked the rice. Â Light, fluffy, flavorful, and nicely seasoned. Â Wife also unimpressed here... grew up eating the real deal in New Mexico, so maybe I just haven't had the authentic winners.
Really tough review. Â Another visit could push it to four, or two stars.
The atmosphere is great. Â The margarita's are also very good as are the chips and salsa. Â I wouldn't call it authentic mexican food though, more like fusion. Â I had the skirt steak, which is one of the most expensive things on the menu and it was just OK. Â My wife had the tuna, which she loved, but I've not seen tuna in many authentic mexican restaurants. Â If you want authentic mexican, this may be the closest you'll find on the cape though.
I will go back and try it again. Â Overall, I think the atmosphere is what makes this place, not the food, which is unfortunate, especially if you consider that is is fairly expensive.
love this place!!! i only went in for drinks but EVERYONE in the place looked like they were happy and enjoying themselves. Â Drinks were flowing, the staff was super fun and interactive. Â outdoor seating, great service, great people. Â I strongly suggest you stop in and try the margaritas or any cocktail for that matter. Â mucho delicioso.
Review Source:Easily
The best restaurant on the Cape right on Main street with outdoor seating to watch the day go by while sipping on a terrific margarita or drinking an Agave Wheat beer.
The carne Saad's burrito hit the spot but the flour tortilla was too large for the filling inside. The rice was forgettable but the salsa verde and chips with salsa were spot on.
The enchilada verde were right on point but the dish burned both my kids and wife. We were warned it was hot but it was not placed properly on the table and highly inappropriate for a 2&4 year old.
The kids quesadilla was good and the fried ice cream was highly memorable due to the hidden hot fudge nestled on the bottom of the crispy cinnamon dusted shell. The white cream was piled high and the chocolate and caramel sauce were beautiful for my wife's birthday surprise.
If you want ethnic on the Cape come to this spot. You will not be let down.
Loved the salsa served with the chips. We wanted a light snack so we ordered the black bean soup and the chicken tortilla soup. Both were delicious. My mini complaint is that the chicken tortilla soup was not hot enough temp-wise. We were also given tea spoons with our soup which I thought was odd.
Service was very friendly with knowledgable. I would go back again and sample some other stuff on the menu.
I eat in the mission of San Francisco nearly every week from salvadorian, to cuban, mexican blah blah blah. I am sorry but their food is really mediocre...bad tortillas for the tacos, rice and beans not so hot. I will say dinning outside is really nice and the margarita was pretty tasty...but do not come here for authentic latin american food.
Review Source:We went tonight for dinner and it was excellent!  I had the house margarita,   ( nice and big and really good) and my husband had a Dos Equis beer on draft and some very fine tequila. For appetizers we had  Queso Fundido and Tequila Marinated Grilled Shrimp Cocktail, both were wonderful, the shrimp were nice and spicy.  For dinner we split tacos and had a side of Grilled Corn on the Cob with queso añejo and chile-lime rub, yum, yum. They also give you a wonderful salsa sauce and chips for free, nice and fresh.
The table behind us had the fresh guacamole, it looked really good next time I will be trying that for sure.
We sat at the bar our server was Tenika she did a great job, the place was packed and had a fun busy atmosphere. Â I am impressed and will be back!
They make the guacamole right at your table! I don't even like guacamole that much, but it was delicious! Certainly an experience and worth the 14 bucks.
The drink menu was huge, and the place was packed. We went on a Saturday night.... had to wait 30 min for a table.... which I didn't mind cause we went to a few nearby stores. I was childless that night & would not recommend bringing kids on a weekend. It was kinda cool cause the whole front of the restaurant is open, adding to the 'summertime ambience'.
I ordered a cod entree. It was delicious and the plate was filled with food. (Not like some other restaurants where you spend $25 and are not full) Not really REAL mexican, kinda a contemporary spin on mexican.... which was fine with me! The best way I can describe the food is "FRESH". Everything tasted fresh & came out hot. I wish it was closer to my house!
If you're looking for a "true" Mexican dining experience, this won't satisfy your culinary craving. However, if you're ok with Falmouth's interpretation of Mexican food on the Cape, then definitely try Anejo. The ambiance is fun with a bar reminiscent of what you might find in Boston, while still remaining family friendly. Nearly the entire front of the restaurant opens up to their outdoor dining patio, so if you don't get a seat outside you can still enjoy the outdoors a bit from the inside.
The chips and dip were quite good and the entire table of guests raved about the guacamole. Â The tacos we ordered were soft-shelled tacos that were excellent, despite being a bit unconventional. Being on the Cape, they have a nice set of seafood choices and several entrees to suit the needs of the diner who may not be a fan of Mexican food. With that said, the entrees did have a spicy Mexican flair that one should be prepared for.
We definitely enjoyed the meal and plan to return soon.
Quick tip: Yelp reports that they don't take reservations, but if it's before 6PM and you have a large group of 8 or more, they will take the reservation.
The first time I came here I had the fish tacos, which were pretty flavorless. Â Basically just a tortilla with a couple shreds of cabbage, some fried fish and barely any sauce. Â I know that's what they usually are, but it was like eating cardboard.
The second time, I had brunch, which was much better. Â I think I got huevos rancheros. Â
The third and probably last time for food, I tried a burrito. Â They don't have a veggie burrito on the menu, but my waitress was really nice and had the kitchen make it. Â Unfortunately, it turned out to pretty much just be a huge pile of beans with some cheese. Â
Pros ~ (reason for 3 star). Â Staff is really nice. Â We had Tracy as our waitress, who was great! Â Also, their margaritas are delicious, and made w/ fresh lime juice and agave instead of sour mix. Â I definitely would come back for drinks, and it is more of a bar than a restaurant anyways.
Falmouth has been hurting for a Mexican place for a while and Anejo is very suiting for the milky Falmouth crowd.
Ambiance is great, food is good, pretty much what you would expect from a bunch of gringos doing Mexican... Too expensive for what it is, I guess you pay for the atmosphere here.
The selection of tequilas is impressive and the margaritas & sangria are great!
Yay Anejo- you are exactly what Falmouth has been missing!
Started at the bar with Sangria and salsa- both good! Mom and I had a great Malbec (by the glass) with dinner- and the boys stuck to the beer.
Started with the lobster taquitos, which we all loved! Crispy outside, but very lightly fried, without overpowering the taste of the fresh lobster. The guacamole was a great accompaniment to complete the flavor!
For dinner- I had the Carne Asada burrito with steak. It was huge, and very good. The salsa verde was not too spicy and just plain good.
Mom had the pork shank, which she loved, ESPECIALLY the corn. I was so jealous of her corn- it was covered with cheese and chili lime salt- you can order this as a side and I definitely recommend it. I could have eaten 4 cobs if I was allowed.
Overall- great new restaurant in Falmouth. Definitely check it out, if only for salsa and drinks at the big bar!
A brand new restaurant (less than 2 wks old) right in the Falmouth downtown. Â We drove by it everyday we were in town and it was always packed. Â
The kinks still needed to be worked out, but the bar area was great. Â We were told it would be a 45 minute wait for a table, but since it was a Tequila bar, I didn't mind waiting around there. Â We ordered a few drinks and a couple of shots at the bar, but our table never cleared, so we were left waiting without even the hostess telling us it might be longer. Â We decided to just eat at the bar. Â
The food lacked any original flair, but was on par with decent Mexican food. Â The drinks were the best part of night and the bartender took the time to talk to everyone, even when he was in the weeds.
3 and 1/2 stars for the great bar, but 1 off for the regular food and 1/2 off for the hostess stand.
