I have been here several times, and was let down in some way each time.
Went one time with the whole family and the food was mediocre at best. Another time just the fiance and I went. he ordered his steak medium-well and it was practically still moo-ing when he got it. He didn't ask them to take it back because we waited so long to get it in the first place. The last straw was when the fiance and I went back. He ordered some seafood pasta dish that was supposed to have clams and shrimp and I ordered a california roll with soy wrap. The wait for food was long, as we expected. His only had maybe 2 clams and 2 shrimp and my roll was made wrong and without soy wrap. I had the waitress take it back, and then waited over an hour, no lie, and still never got my food. We were both outraged. I left without eating and will not ever go back.
I went to Alice's for dinner on a friend's recommendation. Â The environment and service make up for the food a bit, surely it doesn't make it worth the exorbitant prices that they charge. Â My friend had the roast chicken and I had the grilled tuna.
According to the menu, the ahi tuna is cooked rare, but it's more like med-well/well. Â The roasted chicken was beyond done. Â Even the dark meat was dry.
Food usually is pretty bad but last time the steak was excellent!!!! I went for a surprise party and had reservations. About 25 minutes after we arrived our waitress told us that in 30 minutes there was another party taking over our table. She said "Not to make you feel rushed."
I wasn't rushed at all because I didn't really care.. It was their fault. We ended up being there for another hour and they cleared off another table for them. But I found this very unprofessional. She was tring to get us out all night.. She was nice but come on...
It's what you would expect out of a Sushi and Steak in a Casino. It's not amazing they use alot of frozen or wrongly prepared recipes(aioli doesn't mean add Mayon guys!) but its not terrible. The food is pretty decent but the prices are a little much for what you are being served. If it was more freshly cooked foods the steakhouse would be on target, and the chef needs to learn how to cook a steak.
The sushi side though is amazing, the chef who started it did a great job getting it running and doing well. James is a great chef and has really expanded his skill set, and the last I had sushi here it was hands down some of the best you would find. It only gets a 3 because the steakhouse really needs work.
I've been working on the coast for 6 years and have never been able to find good sushi here. Shocking, right?! Â Well, I finally found an amazing place...Alice's Sushi Bar at Blue Lake Casino. Â James is an incredible sushi chef and all of the fish was very fresh...especially loved the sake nigiri (add lemon slice on top). Â It will melt in your mouth!! Â I can't wait to come back...tomorrow:)
Review Source:This restaurant is absolutely awful. First time ate off the steak and seafood menu. They knowingly send out something that was burned, the chicken in my salad was so dry it was inedible, and it was nothing but almost white iceberg lettuce. Not wanting to just base our opinion off this one visit (maybe it was just a bad night), we decided to try it again. They heavily advertise the sushi so we thought maybe that was the specialty. Oh, were we wrong. The seaweed was tough, like something cheap from the Dollar Store. The shrimp they use isn't real, it's imitation shrimp meat, completely disgusting. All the other fillings they use are on the same sub par level and they hardly give you anything. The rice wasn't even good, not sure how you can screw that up but it tasted like it had been cooked, frozen then pulled out and thrown in a microwave. Even the drink I had, a Sailor Jerry and Diet Coke was gross, the diet coke was watery and tasted terrible. You can tell the waitresses have no experience as well; completely inattentive. We really wanted to like this place, it's very nice when you first walk in. But the ONLY reason this place is in business still is because it's attached to the Casino. You're better off walking over to the Gas Station to get pre-made sandwiches.
Review Source:OK a lot of these reviews are old and the restaurant has changed completely. Its current iteration as a steak house and sushi bar is the best they have come up with since it originally opened. The atmosphere is good and is of a much higher quality than the prices reflect. Prices are another issue themselves. Prices have gotten steeper everywhere and looking on the right side of the menu is a little scary for me but the left side, ah the left side, that's my side. The Tatonka is a buffalo burger with a chili aoli. The clam chowder is excellent and the steak salad is also quite good and both of those are in the $10-13 range. They have won us back. The chef really will prepare your burger the way you would like. No more well done is all we can do. By the way if you still haven't tried buffalo now is the time.
Review Source:I went here for breakfast while staying at the Blue Lake Casino. I enjoyed the Swedish pancakes with house made flavored butter and the breakfast burrito was good. The waffles were a little dry and crumbled but the strawberries and cream they came with made it better. Stick with water or the hot chocolate becuase the coffee is watered down and orange juice comes from a box. Good cheap eats!
Review Source:The place was clean. That is about the best thing I can say about it. The hostess was pleasant enough, but our waitress was about as friendly as a hungry dog with a wounded leg. But the real reason Alice's gets 2 stars is due to the fact that the food is horrible. Sorry, but there is nothing even average about almost all of the food we had. The pork roast was a variety of different colors, mostly flavorless and riddled with fat. My baked potato was too scary to try. The salad and buffet bar were almost scary enough to make you run screaming. So why 2 stars? We were there fairly late for dinner and there was only on other couple there. Buffets just don't work when there are no customers. Perhaps during their peak times the place could be better. Also, 2 things were good: the bread they gave us was warm and soft and had poppy seeds (tasty) and they actually had some very yummy  macadamia nut /white chocolate cooks for dessert.
Review Source:Take a look at the date on the only other review on this place, then take that into consideration. Â Yes, when this place first opened it was terrific. Â I would have given it four stars. Â Man, has it made a 180, however. Â I refuse to return to this awful restaurant, even with the 25% off coupon that they sent to me. Â It's no wonder that they have remodeled and scaled the place down. Â Because it bites. Â They got really tight and raised the prices, but ironically replaced what was great fare with horrid, inedible, fat and calorie overloaded food. Â Last time I was there, there was not one fresh, unadulterated vegetable. Â I personally think it is their own fault for being so greedy that this place has gone into the toilet. Â We used to go when they had the lunch buffet for less than five dollars. Â And, of course, once we got all the way out there, we dropped plenty of cash into the slots to make up for how cheaply we dined. Â So, they should have kept the low-price, they'd get more business, and hence, more money into the casino. Â Oh, and the wait staff are also horrible. Â There is one waitress in particular who drives me crazy. Â She acts like I am really putting her out for just doing her freaking job. Â She's been there for years, (go figure). Â She is chatty and complaining, judgmental, whiney and bitchy (can I use that word?). Â She just rounds out the entire, loathsome experience.
Review Source:Alice's Restaurant in Blue Lake Casino  always the best lunch & dinner buffet....truly surprising, well thought out and delicious food, with a excellent selection of dishes, desserts, salads & drinks....it's laid back and comfortable, always smiling waitresses and a great sports bar with reasonably priced drinks right across from it....
This is a good stop when hungry....Check it out...you will be surprised by the quality of the food....it's certainly NOT a boring, bland Hometown Buffet type food.
