Even though the Federal Shutdown denied me access to Mammoth Cave, I found a national treasure right next door, in Cave City. The first night I grinned the whole time while eating fried chicken, jalapeno corn bread, cooked cabbage, vinegar slaw, and collards. And my husband's catfish was excellent, too. The next night I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken-fried steak smothered in milk gravy; and my husband loved his juicy pork chops. Sadly, I may never see Cave City, again, but if you're in the area, treat yourself to Alice's Restaurant.
