  This place is not good at all.  The food is beyond bad, the only decent thing are the waffles you make yourself in the waffle maker at the continental breakfast that lacks desperately!  Oh & the fountain drinks are ok too.  
  
  They offer a lunch buffet - it includes hard pasta & cold gloppy food!  If the health department came in here they'd probably shut it down!
  
  I wouldn't recommend eating here to anybody!
  
  The ONLY con I could possibly come up with is the outdoor view!

  burger 4.5....the sweet bun was super! But yellow mustard not available?
  Decent fried mushrooms but could be more seasoned
  Carrots good, cabbage really bad

  I gave The Alsatian a 3 outta 5 stars because although the service was very average my dish was great! I had the spicy chicken Alfredo and it was a perfect blend of spice, cheese, and creamy sauce! I would definitely recommend this dish, my sister had the chicken fried steak which was nothing special, and my mom had another average dish. The view is amazing! The only thing I disliked was the poor service. I have been a waitress for over 4 years and was disappointed with the girls who were waiting on us. They didn't smile, didn't even pretend to be happy about their job. And I found a bug in one of our waters because they were hauling the ice in open containers because the main dining room was closed off. Still in love with the spicy chicken Alfredo!

  If you eat here, you probably won't have much conversation.  Why?  Because you will be looking at your food wondering the entire time why each dish on your plate tastes the way it does.
  
  I had sweet, sour, and salty all on the same plate.  The sweetened carrots were too large (they are better small), vegetable medley over-salted, and vinegar with cabbage could have been cooked plain.  My pork medallions had ...maraschino cherries? and reddish maraschino-cherry-flavored pineapple slices.  It was described as a pecan sauce, but the cheap cherry flavor was all that stood out.  My girlfriend's order of yellowfin tuna steak had the taste and texture of beef.  That is, after you scrape off the cheesy, cream sauce.
  
  I came to Castroville looking for small town simple food and found a restaurant that tries waaay too hard.
  
  pro: a good view of the hill country.
