Have been going here for several years and have and have not been disappointed. Service is always excellent. Â What is inconsistent is the food. On the most recent visit I had the blue corn shrimp with wasabi sauce and ginger something. The first shrimp was interesting, the sauce was nothing special but the future bites left me with the shrimp coating was bland and the dipping sauce was the only flavor emerging. I did eat 5 out of the 6 but started chipping off the blue corn chip coating and dipping just the shrimp. I also had a cup of chili that was served lukewarm. I had to ask for additional condiments; cheese and onions to make it interesting. I should have asked for Tabasco to make it tasty. I give them three stars only because of the service and the fact that they do keep trying with the food but I'm disappointed again and again.
Review Source:The mediocre food was overpriced, but at least the service sucked!
Seriously, all six of us had negative things to say about everything we ordered, except me ... my $12 hamburger was pretty good, even though it was served rare, despite my ordering medium. Â All of us agreed our server was barely adequate and acted like we were a bother. Â
Definitely will not be going back or recommending to friends.
A Delicious Stop in Spokane!
SITREP
Whenever a restaurant received accolades as being one of the Top 10 in it's region, that is something worth taking note of.
THE SETUP
First off, I have to say I am a big big fan of executive chef Mitch Thomas. Â He brings a lot of SouthWest flare and infuses it into his own decided Pacific Northwest culinary expressiveness.
THE FOOD
I totally live off just the appetizers. Â Prime Rib Sliders. Â Crab Claws. Â Herb Crusted Lamb Pops. Â And the list goes on and on.
And the sandwiches and the entrees are all amazing. Â One of my favorite that I've had on a few occasions over the last couple of years is the Tarragon Cranberry Chicken Salad sandwich. Â It's a "taste" that I just can't seem to capture anywhere else but here. Â And it keeps pulling me back!
REFRESHERS!
And then the wealth of drink & beverage options is astoundingly wonderful.  And again, there always seems to be SOMETHING different, and in this case it's their Bière Rouge, a deliciously spicy red ale!  Can't seem to find THAT anywhere else either!
Oh well! Â I guess I'll just have to keep coming back!
THE LOWDOWN
A wonderful stop along I-90 for some delicious taste treats and refreshing drinks.
Let us start off by saying that two stars isn't bad; it's just that we've had better. We would lump Ambrosia in with the Red Lobsters, Applebees, and so on. Their food isn't bad, it's just that it's un-inspired. We really don't like that they do that stereotypical  entree highlight  to direct you to order the most expensive thing... Sockeye, Hanger Steak, and Short Ribs. Those are things that shouldn't be expensive, other than the Sockeye. The food is no different than a chain place, but able to charge more. We would say that if you have some time and money then check it out; otherwise, save both and go somewhere other. I agree with Miranda S's post "I don't advise people to not go there...just review their menu first."
Review Source:After a very long drive through torturous Montana roads that seemed to have construction every few miles, we were looking to grab a quick bite near our hotel. Of course I checked Yelp for anything viable and we happened on to Ambrosia. A bit hard to find in a small mall but we did find it. It's done well inside and we were welcomed with a friendly smile. The menu was short but interesting. We split a caesar salad and both ordered the chicken piccata. After what seemed a lengthy wait, we were finally served our dinner; Â lightly sauteed chicken breasts with a lemony caper sauce over mashed potatoes and haricot vert beans complimented with Duck Pond pinot gris. We hadn't expected it to be surprisingly good ! Both our server and the owner stopped by to apologize for the wait. It was a nice touch that a lot of restaurants probably wouldn't have done but we certainly appreciated it. Â In a city like Spokane where good restaurants may be quite hard to find (at least it seemed so on Yelp), I'd recommend this spot in a New York minute !
Review Source:The one thing they serve that I will return for is their Masala and Goat Cheese Sweet Potato Fries appetizer (which they did take off the menu for a while and how I got it last time was asking for it), Â Otherwise, I feel they have a limited menu. Â Drinks are good but not overly impressive. Â I would rather go to other Spokane Bistro's. Â When they revamp their menu, I would be willing to check it out. Â I don't advise people to not go there...just review their menu first.
Review Source:After a night of wine tasting, my family and I ended up at Ambrosia for some dinner and a nightcap. Â We'd never been and it was recommended by one of the owners of the wineries we visited. Â It was pretty busy (Saturday night) so we waited at the bar and ordered some drinks. Â The drinks were pricey, but pretty strong :) Â We couldn't get over how nicely the place was decorated, the artwork was simple but so effective in creating a relaxed, but hip environment. Â I had the steak (Delish!) and my family got the gnudi and cajun pasta - wow! Â We also ordered a creme brulee to split, but I found it to be a little lacking. Â It was a little to jello-ey and the sugar was too thick and too burnt. Â Picky, picky, I know, but that's just my opinion. Â Everything else was wonderful and I will definitely go again. Â It's a little on the expensive side, but seemed pretty well worth it.
Review Source:Spokane is a culinary wasteland, finding good restaurants in really hit and miss and when we lived elsewhere we used to look forward to trying a new place. Not here, many times it is with a foreboding feeling when we venture out to have our taste buds assaulted and our wallets raped.
When we walked into Ambrosia we were expecting the usual fare, overpriced, poorly prepared food, but wow, we were pleasantly surprised.
We arrived for a late night dinner and the restaurant was obviously winding down and beginning to clean for the night, usually a bad time for service and food. Instead we had prompt service with a very knowledgeable server. Wines were suggested to be paired with the food, two apps, one salad, and two entrees and one dessert was ordered.
In each and every case the plates were a stunning success, flavors were clear and seasoned appropriately, the salad, praise God, was not soaked in dressing. The one entrée that was requested to be done to a certain temperature was, get this, actually cooked correctly. The dessert was not overly sweet and the flavor was allowed to shine and an after dinner port was not oxidized and served at the appropriate temp and then a small cheese plate was given, gratis to pair with port.
We walked in with fear and walked out amazed, maybe there is hope for Spokane, Ambrosia keep it up.
I'm remiss that I've not yet written a review of this great locally owned restaurant. Â It is our favorite spot for lunch and their happy hour is pretty darn tough to beat. Â They have a great selection of wines by the glass, my prior dining partners rave about their martinis, and they offer some great HH appetizers for $5. Â
As Jae points out, their menu isn't huge, but it does have some great options. My coworker also raves about the ravioli, while I'm addicted to the cajun pasta. Â I've had a lot of success with the shrimp appetizers, and get there as much as I can. Â It isn't the cheapest in town, but the food is fabulous.
"Ambrosia Bistro is a fairly decent wine bar, but somewhat lacking as a bistro. Our waiter seemed quite uneducated about wine and kept disappearing for long periods of time. Their wine selection is pretty good, lots of local wines and a few good imports. However, their menu is a bit  short and selective (not a good one for vegetarians), and their prices are pretty high. I was also disappointed with the size portions of the food that you get for the price you pay.
Also, the friend that I went with came home with food poisoning from one of their shrimp dishes (so beware the seafood).
I do have to say that I've had my all-time favorite dish here though, something that I'd never had/heard of before until I visited here: butternut squash ravioli with cranberry sage sauce in browned butter. Oh man, this dish is what I crave on a nightly basis."
