What happened? First off, the bar tender was really nice and did a good job serving. BESIDES that, the table linens were stained and gross, the windows were cracked, and get this!! A MICROWAVE Â was used in heating up our food! I heard the poor guy (bartender/server/cook/manager) use it to heat up our food. Wow. Food tasted good, but I would have preferred fresh. Too bad it's gone down hill.
Review Source:There was a time I would give Andre's a big 4 stars..and only because of the sommelier tending bar. I did not go in there often but when I did, the service was fantastic by knowledgeable friendly personnel who left in June 2012.  The only thing good about this place now the location. We passed by today, Father's Day and the place was understandably empty..the clients left with the bartenders/sommelier..now  nothing happens there!
Review Source:I was soo bummed about this place! Â The location and the look, I was so excited, however we walked in about 5pm, and the place was empty except for what looked like two regulars at the bar and some guy (not Andre we know him from the comedy club) all chatting like friends, we walked up and not even a hello. Â They had papers scattered all over the bar, it looked like the place just opened for business yesterday! Â The guy just said, can I help you? Â It was really awkward! I said yeah we're looking for a place to eat, he said oh well we don't really have a menu but I can see what we have in the kitchen! what?!?! Â We just turned around and left, I would love if this place got it's act together, such a great location and lovely decor, just awkward, uncomfortable, and not very friendly.
Review Source:the wine, sparkling wine and beer selection is excellent. just don't come here hungry. the tapas selection is mediocre and the portions are small and pricey for what you get..the only meat served is shrimp. the service is slow due to very few staff. however the place is cozy and pretty and a great place to go to socialize, happy hour etc if you're not in a hurry.
Review Source:The location could not be more beautiful, and I'd give it high rankings for a glass of wine spot - stop in, sit on the patio, enjoy the beautiful harbor, do some people watching.
Our food, to put it bluntly, sucked. Badly stale foccacia with different toppings - canned chicken, canned black olives (mixed with mayo?) and a fairly tasteless tomatoey topping  and a chorizo empanada split in half was the sampler platter. Totally disappointing, and our server was kind of a jerk, too - obviously not interested in helping people.
So to cut to the chase, go for a drink and eat elsewhere.
Wonderful atmosphere, great service, nice music, and very good wines, both domestic and foreign. Â Prices of wine by the glass might seem higher than usual, say $11 or $12, but they pour a huge glass of wine. They also have some nice beers on tap. Â Didn't get to try tapas, but will next time. Â You can sit outside on patio overlooking the harbor and watch the sun go down; it doesn't get any better! Â Â Our wine host was Craig, a nice and very interesting guy. Â We went there two nights in a row on a recent trip to the area, so I guess we liked it!
Review Source:I will make this review short and rude...just like our experience at Andres. We sat down and were half-heartedly greeted by a woman who clearly has no stake in the success of the business. While we were waiting for service and she was sitting with other customers and enjoying a glass of wine of her own, we were warned about the food by a fleeing guest. We got up to leave and she hurried over to collect our menus as if thanking us for leaving her to her on-the-clock socializing. We had been here once before and had a decent experience (hence the 2 stars)...otherwise: yikes.
Review Source:This place is beyond romantic. I love the atmosphere of this place. I went here one night when they had live music....I was on a date and we were sitting on the long 'L' shaped booth drinking wine and listening to the music. It was very relaxing. They played music even after they were closing, it was soo peaceful until the 21 year old kids came into the place and were beyond drunk and making a scene. Other than that...it was just fantastic!
Review Source:Went on a Wednesday night using a Groupon Coupon. Had great service in a comfortable room. Â Ordered a beer on tap and the Tapas sampler plate. It came with 3 tapas, garlic hummas and pita. Â Also 3 different cheeses. All really tasty! Â Finished off the dinner with a glass of Chocovine (a fantastic chocolate infused wine) Â Like a smooth chocolate shake with a kick! Â
On weekends they have live music. We will be back.
I had a friend from out of town visit me. Since we haven't seen each other in so long, I really wanted to have a nice dinner and drinks at a place that wasn't too chaotic so we could catch up. Andres is a perfect place for quiet ambiance and wine tasting! Since it's an intimate environment, everyone befriended each other and we all chatted and recommended which tapas and desserts to try! Everyone was so lovely, my friend and I had a great time. Please don't listen to some of these comments about the costs! It is NOT overpriced or expensive - all tapas places cost a pretty penny but Andres provides rather affordable wine selections and empanadas platters! I would definitely go again to have a glass of wine with a friend!
Review Source:Hat Night.
For some reason, I grabbed one of my tartan caps on the way out. Funny because I'm usually so focused on catching that last kiss from Mrs KC or gazing at my perfect daughter's four tiny teeth to be concerned with accessorizing.
Tuesday sucks for sure. Not even tacos make a Tuesday righteous. Throw in a mild chest cold and a one night business trip to Ventura... not much to anticipate. Pull up Yelp for some dinner ideas... nothing. Fuck it. Surely these people can't screw up fish n chips, right? Leap outta the hotel and walk down to the Harbor.
Hat on head and hands in pockets to ward off a stiff Pacific breeze, I pop into Andre's for a glass of red. Before my second foot is in the door, I'm welcomed. Nancy and Bruce are wacky government workers. Mike and Dwayne live on a boat  (yes..."Dwayne's World") in the Harbor. Every night they stroll from place to place...free from cars. The bartender, Gina was a smart little thang... the perfect blend of Gina Gershon and Diane Lane. What brought us together? Wine and hats. All of us were sporting crowns of some sort. Sinatra on the Pandora, new friends and wine in the glasses.
Wound up calling in some takeout from Spinnaker's to temper my appetite. Not bad. Steamers and some lobster bisque with a hunk of sourdough are the bass to the the drum. Nice.
Andres himself joined us late in the evening. Good to meet you. Did you know he owns the comedy club and a new bakery on Main Street? We wrestled over the ingredients of an epic Cuban sandwich and I swore I'd be back to try his version of the classic.
If you find yourself in Ventura, don't forget your hat. But if you do, Gina will make you a cowboy hat.
Friendly atmosphere and nice selection of wines. You do get what you pay for, so if you are looking for bargain over quality, this may not be your thing, but I had a great time, loved the selection. The wine pourers are not your average peeps, they are educated wine sommeliers and it was a pleasure to speak with them and learn from them. Andre is a very talented, driven guy and has created a great concept in the harbor, bravo!
Review Source:Great place to spend an afternoon*. Â Nice wine selection and cozy atmosphere.
The tapas a bit pricey IMO and range from ok to really good.
* When Andres is bartenting = good times but Wife and I went last weekend and there was a new bartender there. Â Don't recall his name but had a pony tail - he was very annoying! He was a "me too" guy - been around the world, drinks $50,000 wines etc - i couldn't wait for him to shut up!
What a find! We received the warmest and friendliest service. Andre, the owner was there and he gave us samples of some delicious appetizer he was testing out. The pour is generous and the prices are way low --- The other reviewer must be used to eating at really cheap places if they thought the prices here were high! I found this place to be not only reasonable, but warm and lovely. The board games were fun and the handmade bar is beautiful. A lovely experience all around. GREAT SERVICE!
Review Source:Stick with wine and empanadas and you will do fine. Â We went with a coupon and after my very generous pour of amazingly smooth Spanish wine, I forgot all about it. Â Our first order of empanadas was so good we decided we had to try everything else on the small menu. Â Somewhere a starving child is crying because we left the crab/salmon cakes, cheese plate and cuban sandwich unfinished.
Review Source:We went on a Sunday afternoon. It was pretty quiet. For some reason it still took about 75 minutes for our tapas orders to arrive at our table. We didn't even get an apology for the ridiculous wait.
It would have been worth the wait had the tapas been good but that definitely wasn't the case. The crab cakes were like cardboard- I couldn't even taste crab. And my bruschetta was passable in flavor but served on bread that looked and tasted as if it had come from one of those Healthy Choice frozen meals.
The only reason I'm not giving this one star is because the wine was excellent and the pour was generous.
This place is great! They have an excellent selection of wine and their tapas were very tastey!
It may seem pricey at first, but the quality is worth every penny. Â The tapas were made to order and they were absolutely delicious. Â They were even brought out by the chef! Â And the owner is very affable. Â And the crowd is very mellow, which is what I like.
And when my friend broke a plate and her glass of Reisling, it was replaced right away. Â So, service is excellent.
Andres will be definitely the place where you can find me on a Saturday night.
I thought this was a great find. It's in an awkward location and kind of small...that's my only complaint if you can call it that.
The bartender-wine connoisseur was a really great guy. He was attentive to everyone in the bar and was still able to hold conversations with you. I came in with a friend, we were in town for an overnight stay, and so glad we made it over there. He really knew his stuff!
Basically, if you're in Ventura this place is worth checking out.
