I was compelled to write a review for this place after watching an Oxnard council meeting. This place was asking for an extension to sell alcohol for an hour more every night. people bashed this place saying it is the cause of crime and it negatively affects the heritage square even though crimes directly associated from that place is low. Â
I use to come to this place when i was like  14 with my cousins. The place was pretty shady, I think there were prostitutes inside and I could have easily gotten a drink if I wanted to. The bashing for this place might have held then, but 8 years later I came here again and it's different. The new management has transformed this place. The people that frequent this place are now families, young people and some middle aged men. The variety of clientele makes it more inviting to go in and shoot some pool for a while and not feel intimidated and awkward. They have a few choices for beer on tap, some food and a jukebox. Rates are reasonable. If they could improve their food quality and expand their beer choices then they may be a 5 star place. Some karaoke would also be cool, though I think the city rejected them a permit to play live music. But in it's own it's a good place that adds to downtown attractions.
This is a great place. The rate is super cheap ($3 week nights, $4 weekends w/ military and student discounts). The area may feel shady, especially if you go at night, but the pool hall is extremely clean and welcoming. I would feel comfortable taking anyone from my grandparents to my little sister. They serve alcohol, drinks, and food (all a bit over priced except for maybe the $1 hot dogs) and the waitstaff is easy on the eyes. I started going when I was really bad at pool, but nobody cares or judges you so it is a great place to learn. If you want a cheap place to hang out with friends and/or work on your pool game, I can't think of a better place in the county.
