On a Saturday morning, I was driving from Memphis to St. Louis down Highway 55. A check of Yelp mobile out in the middle of nowhere didn't show much around...
So, we went low tech...I saw a bunch of signs for the Apple Barrel Family Restaurant and decided to give it a try.
Let me just say, this place is exactly what you think about when you think small town diner in the mid west. Being from California It caught me off guard when we walked in and we were asked if we wanted to sit in the 'smoking" or "nonsmoking" section. We picked the nonsmoking and if there were other smokers in the place, we didn't notice/smell them.
The menu was traditional breakfast... I opted for one of their "hashbrown scramble" that was really good.
The food was very reasonable priced with most breakfast items in the 5-7 dollar range.
The coffee was really great and the food was really good... Not something I would go out of my way for, but if I was passing through again, I would stop for breakfast!
The service was very friendly and QUICK... I think we ate and were back on the road within 30 minutes. On our way out, I noticed two Hayti Police Officers having breakfast, always a good sign that your at a decent place.
If you are in the area and hungry for breakfast, give this place a try!
