The 9-oz House Sirloin was tough, even when cooked medium-well. Looks like they used a low-quality cut.
The server was very nice and courteous, though!

Okay. On saturday nights this place is "club applebees". You can find an array or scantily dressed women with too much ill-matched lipstick on trying to pick up the local gang member posers that think they are hood.

Shamon salinas.... you're an argicultural farmland.

Besides those details... after 9 there were half price appetizers and $3.50 drink specials. No pitchers.

First off, dont order the "regular Mojito" EWE!! The waitress responds to my "this is horrible" and says yea thats why I asked if you wanted to add a flavor? I've heard they are pretty bad...  So I ordered a second drink, which my friend and I watched be made and sit on the bar for 10-15 min, at which point i asked a waitress passng by if she would please grab my drink for me.  I've come to this location over and over again, sometimes had the most horrible service, but the managers are always quick to resolve the problem however they can. Can be a "rough" crowd on certain nights, but thats Salinas for ya!

I've gone to this restaurant a lot... Much more than I've promised myself I would, because every time I leave I swear to not go back.  It's NEVER been because of the service, just getting that out there now, the servers have always been wonderful, but it's one of two reasons:

Steak- Never once in three years has it been cooked right.  I always ordered it medium rare and it comes back well done.  I tried to send it back one day to see how many time it would take until they got it right.  4 times.  This made me wonder if they had someone back there who actually COULD cook steak correctly.  Since then I've just ordered it rare.  When that comes to the table it's typically medium done or cold.  I don't order steak there anymore.

Pasta- I think it's actually the sauce they use... I had a party of 7 go to Applebee's a year ago for dinner and we all ordered pasta.  EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US was sick that night.  A few months later another group of my friends went and invited me and, though apprehensive, I went.  They had ordered pasta again and, again, the majority of us were sick within an hour.  That time I wrote to the company in concern.  I was never answered.

They are wonderful for desserts and drinks.  I've never had their appetizers but they may be worth a shot.  Again, their servers are wonderful and friendly.... but some of the food I'm very concerned about

Best waitress ever!  She helped us customize the menu selections and offered to exchange the slaw with my fish and chips for a Caesar dinner salad, outstanding.  And the sandwich my wife orders got a swap on the fries for onion rings, delicious.  My wife said her sandwich was excellent, told me several times.  We were both a little surprised at both the excellent quality of service and the delicious food.  Been awhile since we tried Applebee's chain and just saying, we will be going back.  Wonderful.

I have lived in Salinas my whole life and when this restaurant first opened up it was great! However, recently it has truly gone down hill. I went there for my birthday dinner with my husband and my parents and we waited an hour just for our drinks from the bar. When we looked over to the bar to see if it was busy, it was empty and the bar tenders were just laughing and joking around with each other. After we got impatient, which was an hour, my dad asked one of the passing waitresses if she knew why they were taking so long or if they were backed up, and she was very rude and said she had no idea and that she just got back from her break and everyone keeps asking her questions. Another table near us was waiting 30 minutes just for their check! Needless to say, after I complained calmly to the manager he apologized and said he would bring our food out, however I let him know that they could just cancel our order and if they could bring me the check for our drinks so we could pay. Yea, after waiting over an hour we still paid for our drinks. Never going back to this restaurant at this location again.

We have had some very poor experiences at Applebee's in Salinas and decided we would not go back.  But someone gave us a gift card, so we gave it one last chance.  Service and food were below average!  Now we will definitely never return!

We are from out of state and we were starving when we arrived in town and we just wanted to eat something really quick. The staff was nice and friendly and our orders were not messed up or anything. I do have to say that their clientele scared the Hell out of me. They advertise in their bar that there are drink deals for 49rs fans and there were a bunch of guys wearing 49rs jerseys watching the game and I was terribly uncomfortable the entire time. Why would scary gang member looking people go to a family restaurant to hang out? Ugh.
I have learned while staying in this part of the state that you HAVE to order dressing on the side or else you don't get a salad, you get soup. In Las Vegas you don't have to specify that you want dressing on the side so I keep forgetting to request that here. I ordered the fiesta salad and it was delicious but as I said earlier: soup.

I usually go to the one in Gilroy but we were already down in Salinas so might as well, I was kind of hesitant do to all the bad reviews but actually we had a really good experience.
Our server was awesome! I cant remember his name though, he was very nice and funny! The place was packed and we never had to wait on him He would come and ask if we wanted more beer or anything.

By far the worst customer service I've ever experienced plus the food took over an hour to reach our table on a slow Thursday evening.  Waitresses seem too busy chitchatting rather than checking on the guests.  I'll give them one star because we asked one of the girls to take our family photo and she was able to get that right.

Had the WORST dinner at the Davis Road location.  LOUSY Waitress, no silverware even though she had already delivered the food.  I had to GET UP and go locate somebody to bring us some utensils so we could quit using our hands to eat.  When waitress brought silverware she dropped them in the middle of our table. She forgot my salad. BTW,  I could have brought my own lettuce and dumped it on the plate like their "dinner salad."  Never checked in with us.  The sports bar TV was SOOO loud we could hardly carry on a conversation across the table.
Anyway, if you want a nice dining experience don't go here.  I brought all the leftovers home for my dog!!!

    1. Chips were re-friend after a couple of days old they re-fry them for the crunch..

    2. Always horrible service it's either the employees or they give them too many tables to serve at once, took 30min. to see if i wanted a re-fill

Back in 2003, this place was awesome.  The service was a lot better, the food came out quicker and the overall vibe of the place was just, well, happier.  I was so enthralled with Applebee's that I thought it was the second-coming.  No restaurant in my eyes could hold hold a candle to Applebee's.  8 years, many travels and common sense have all dissolved my naivete.  What the hell was I thinking back then!?

Applebee's serves standard American fare with certain menu items offering mexican and asian influence, sometimes in a fusion-like manner.  The food is still pretty good, but the service is inconsistent and anemic at times.  I'm very pissed that they took the Apple Chimichanga off the menu.  The one saving grace they had, even back then, is no longer in existence.

    .......sigh

I met a friend for lunch today.   I've not been to this Applebees in many months, so I wanted to give it a try.
We were Not impressed in the least.
    - I specified Freshly brewed coffee.    It wasn't.  It was not Fresh and it was Old.
    - I ordered the Fish 'N Chips and had to practically beg a few times for more Malt Vinegar.
    - Each time I made a request of "someone" (a server)... I was told, "I'm not your server, I'll tell him what you want."   --Okay, but can't you simply hand me a few packets of Malt Vinegar while you're at it??
    - Our wait-person (it was a guy..) wore the crummiest looking levis/jeans I've seen in a while.  They were hanging down, and looked dirty.

I understand trends and fashion and being "contemporary"...  but please, dress nicely, provide me very good service and I'll be back.

--Remember, we can eat anywhere... the only thing you really have to offer is service!

What happened to this place? It used to be a decent place to visit.I gave up after.     3 " last chance" trips.Long waits for service, cold food, burnt food!Unbelievable! On one visit the waitress said " Your food is ready and i know you've been waiting for awhile, but my manager won't let me bring it out.It has to come out in the order it was received."So our food sat another 15 minutes before she brought it out. What the f-- ck!!!!!  never again, ever.

$3 dollar drinks and half off appetizers FTW!!!

I always have appetizers and drinks when I come visit back home to see one of my close friends. We actually usually go to chili's all the time, but I hate running into one of my ex-boyfriends there all the time and so we ended up here at Applebees. By the way, there isnt very much options to chose to go to in Salinas.

Came on a Sunday afternoon and what do you know happy hour on drinks and appetizers, it was meant to be :)

Spiked strawberry frozen lemonade all the way!
Service was great, drinks were good n only 3 bucks, and appetizers half off.
Overall, me and my friend, 2 happy campers and I didn't have to run into my ex again

My girlfriend had the strawberry mojito that wasn't sweet at all. The hostess seem a little disorganized. We sat at the bar which was filled with some lively characters and some shady ones as well. There was one side of the bar that was filled with middle aged men yelling their lungs out every 5 minutes. I was disappointed that the servers nor the management told them to be quiet (well as far I saw because the whole time they were there they were loud). However, the bartender Bee was really helpful and attentive to us in the face of a busy service. In regards to the food my girlfriend ordered their Signature Sirloin with Garlic Herb Shrimp dish which was a selection from their less that 500 calories section. The reason it was less that 500 calories was because the dish steak was pretty small and the potatoes were 5 pieces of small red cut potatoes. The steak was delicious though but the shrimp was too small to actually have any flavor. I myself ordered the appetizer sampler that is always good to get when having some drinks at Applebees. Their spinach & artichoke dip is always warm and delicious. Their dip is actually my favorite dip anywhere.

In regards to the environment, as mentioned earlier, there were some shady characters in the place. There were some guys sitting next to us who were making us uncomfortable by talking loudly and bragging about punching people. However, they were a minority of the people. The rest of the patrons were actually pretty cool.

If you plan on going there for a Friday night I would recommend you go there before 8 that way you avoid waiting forever to get a table. Between 9-10 it takes up to 30 to 45 minutes to get a table.

All in all the bartender was the best thing about the night due to her awesome service. The food was average (what do you expect it is a corporate chain); it was very loud; some very loud people, but I would still come here.

This was my first visit to this particular restaurant after their remodel. In short: the food was good, the service, not so much. The good food is the ONLY reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one.

Five minutes from the time we were seated until our drink order was taken. Ten more minutes to receive half the drink order. Twenty MORE minutes until our dinner order arrived...and still no second drink. The server who brought our dinner order wasn't the server that took the order, and it's never a good sign when the server has to ask at FOUR different tables, "Did you order this?". The manager came by on our request and offered to comp us dessert...and that didn't happen either.

I've had good service at chain restaurants before. This wasn't it. The word that comes to mind is "unprofessional", which is a poor adjective to have attached to someone's job performance, no matter what that job may be.

Now, on the opposite side of the coin, I did notice several servers being trained, so it's possible everyone was still comparatively "new" following the remodeling. And the food did arrive at the table hot and fresh and good-tasting. So we'll give it another go in a month or so and see if they've worked the bugs out. If not, well, Applebees will be ranked with another chain restaurant (which shall, for now, remain nameless) as being not a place to go, but a place you end up.

Stopped by here with my grandma for a quick lunch bite.  Service was decent, but we sat pretty far from where the waitress's main wait area was.  I think they were short staffed that day.  The food was a hit and I'd come back there again.

Pick 2 lunch special .... Lame choices....
on the menu... i chose 3 different items, all have been "discontinued" from the lunch special. if so, why advertise it?!

    ended up getting the
Oriental chicken salad - nice salad. could do without the chicken though, it was dry.
Reuben sauerkraut.  - tasty sandwich. i'd order this again.

I'll say this...the food is good, and the servers themselves are generally very friendly.  But the service plain sucks.  I've been here several times in the past--lunch seems to go fairly smooth, but evening meals take forever.  In the past I have had to wait upwards of 30 minutes just to have our order taken.

Tonight was horrific.  Granted, we were a larger party (10 people) but that really wasn't an excuse. We waited a full hour for a table, then over 45 minutes for our food to arive after ordering (considering most of us ordered salads, this was rediculous).  While waiting for our table, a few of our party went to the bar to get drinks....one gave up after spending 20 minutes trying to get the bartender's attention.

I have never before have I experienced that slow service even in the busiest of restaurants.

I like applebees. But i definitely hate this location. When my friends and i had dinner our server was so busy that it seemed like he was ignoring us. I understand when someone is busy, but heck when someone is trying to get your attention you dont look at them and then walk pass by them. SO RUDE!! When we finally got his attention after 20 mins of patiently waiting to ask for water we still had to wait another 20 mins for our food.. In the end the guy was trying to be nice and said "im sorry i've been busy guys, but you know i love you guys, thats why i drew a heart on your receipt cause thats how much i love you". pssh... yea right. I'd rather go the Chilis,  i can get better service and better food over there.

Ordered the steak and shrimp "healthy" meal. Wasn't bad at all. Until I felt something a bit sharp and pokey in my mouth while chewing my steak. I thought it was some kind of bone, which seemed really odd for a steak. I stopped chewing, put my fingers in my mouth, and pulled out.... a staple!

Yes, there was a standard-size staple in my steak, somewhat straightened out and twisted. I immediately notified our waitress and showed it to her. She gasped and took it and said she would talk to her manager. The manager never came to our table. And in fact the waitress only returned to our table after we approached her and asked for our bill.

I assumed they would at the very least make our meal free. But no, all we got was a $3.99 discount off the $12 entree!

    Abysmal.

I went to this restaurant with my wife and daughter for dinner. After being seated we waited 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Finally the waiter came to take our drink order (2 sodas, 1 kids milk). We were brought our sodas quickly and were told it would be a minute for the milk. After 5 minutes our waiter came back and said he was still waiting on the bar for our daughters milk... He took our order. 5 minutes later (a full 15 minutes after we were seated) we were told that they had to bring a new box of milk up from the back.... My 4 year old daughter went 20 minutes without anything to drink. Our entrées came to the table at the same time the milk did... What was missing??? Our appetizer! Now this is what gets me going... We order the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer... I used to cook at an applebee's and I know exactly what goes into making this appetizer. It takes all of 1 minute and 20 seconds. When I asked the waiter "what happened to our appetizer?" he said "Oh, well your entrees came up first so I didn't wan them to get cold..." I explained to him that now that we had our meals in front of us, there was really no reason for the entrée, and he actually became offended, insisting that it was almost ready and he would be right out with it. And he did come right back with it, and guess what? It was cold. The appetizer had been sitting in the window the entire time and he forgot to bring it to us, and then he tried to lie his way out of it! We were offered no comps, no discounts and no apology (the most important one!) Very disappointing experience and it's no wonder Applebee's is failing as a business. We wont be returning.

Blah- I am not sure why  I keep trying to like Applebee's.
I always leave this place feeling like crap for choosing to go here again. So I've been to this place 3 times- each time has been horrible. I'm def. not a fan of their food. Their service is not up to par either. I was having a conversation with my friend sitting next to me and a nosey server-(who wasnt our server so dont know what he was doing near our table) felt it necessary to chime in on our conversation with a one liner and walk away. I just looked at my friend in awe.

Basically all in all this place sux. Food, Service and their respect for privacy.

We had a gift card and decided to drive out 20 mins. Our server was CW and he was great! Really friendly and helpful, he helped me pick out an entree. He brought our drinks out right away and made sure my son's had lids on them. The baby's food came out first (we ordered it that way) and then our appetizer. We had the trio: artichoke dip, boneless wings and cheese sticks. It was decent, nothing spectacular, but pretty good.y husband and I both ordered the Parmesan and shrimp steak. It was also good... Average chain quality meat but overall not bad. And I'm picky!

The food was average and what we expected but our server was a delight. He was very timely and helpful and kept making sure we had everything we needed! We will be back, and will be requesting his section.

    Boh-ring!

Trying to look and feel like your local neighborhood foode ande beverage emporium, the walls end up looking like the reason why entry-level designers get fired from Ralph Lauren: it's faux Americana, with none of the appeal of either the real thing or Ralph's take on it.

In other words, a rip-off of Red Robin and TGI Fridays, but without the ambience, flavor, or "authenticity" of either.

The food is 100% meh. Bland yet greasy, the boringness of it all is offset only by its enormous caloric content. The only upside is that it'll all slide right out into the pooper precisely because of that grease.

Oh, and the service? Imagine someone who, in her youth, held one of the Worst Jobs in America (according to a Letterman Top Ten list): assistant crack whore. Now pushing 40 and with five children by as many men, her gut would hang out of the top of her pants if her ugly polyester uniform weren't so baggy as to make you think she might be working on child number six.

Now imagine all the apathy she might have and skill she might display, moderated only by her need to get that next paycheck.

That's what the service was like.

(Description for illustrative purposes only. Not based on any actual waitress or "server," here or at any other restaurant.)

    At least we had a discount coupon from <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FRestaurants.com&s=92a32e879a8bc9bad14f389149e0a62a99ba27f54b2dca87b4d713cffa7973a9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Restaurants.com</a>.

Mediocre food, mediocre service: Welcome to crApplebee's!

Came in for a quick lunch today because, well, it's close to my office and hotel and I just didn't feel like driving very far.  I guess I get what I get for being lazy!

They do have a veggie burger, which is nice, but it wasn't on the menu and really not much else in the way of vegetarian selections (unless you want to subtract the meat from a salad or pasta and still pay full price).  Honestly, I think it's the same patty that Subway uses for their veggie patty sandwiches.

I stood in the doorway a good five minutes before the hostess appeared, and was about to leave when she finally showed up.  Though the place wasn't very busy, my server seemed to be and I only saw her twice through the whole meal.  I had to have someone else bring napkins to my table.

Bottom line:  It's what you'd expect from a chain restaurant.  I may come back, but probably just for beer.

So here is the upside...the bartender was nice.

The rest of the deal...This is an ancient Applebee's and apparently lost all of its customers to the newer/younger/cleaner Outback and Chili's.  Hanging out in Salinas I chose to live on the wild side and dine on the gourmet "Trios" which consisted of steak quesadilla, chicken wings and mini burgers.  Tons of bland food.  I can eat the better half of a cow in a single sitting and didn't put much of a dent in this beast.

Skip dessert and head straight for the tums!  I'd suggest taking the extra 100' drive down the road to Outback.
