Delicious authentic AND Tex Mex food, just like at their original restaurant in Progreso, Mexico, across the border a few miles. (Just add a few more dollars to each dish and drink.) Housed in a cute old house, Arturo's also has the REAL Mexican margaritas you just can't find in the U.S. -- fresh lime juice and tequila -- none of that sweet and sour mix. Just just ask for MEXICAN margaritas and they'll hook you up. I ate the chicken enchiladas con mole (not too spicy)  and my husband had the crispy tacos in red shells. Yum!

Arturo's has done a fine job of replicating its Progresso MX restaurant in a safer environment, and is on our short list of Valley favorites (We eat out a dozen times a week). The food is great (our favorites are nachos, pico de gallo, and variety of enchiladas and tacos). The service is outstanding and quite friendly. An added plus is the excelelnt live music outside on Thursday and Friday. The converted house works OK for now, but we understand they are seeking a more convenient, larger place near Hwy 83. Arturo's has to be the best restaurant in Weslaco and one of the five best in the Valley.

Arturo's serves up some of the best food in Weslaco.
It's a quiet place in a quiet town, but don't let the location fool you, this place is beautifully decorated, well-priced, and depending upon what you order, can make a great place for dinner.
Architecturally it's set apart from the rest of town and advertised with a big sign out front. The inside is wood flooring, high ceilings, wood trip, and some warm pastel colors set Arturo's apart from a lot of the restaurants in the area.
The sides aren't great (since when do french fries and onion rings deserve to be on a Mexican joint's menu?), but some of the entrees are. If you don't care about your waistline most of these dishes will do nicely.
The chips and salsa they serve are pretty good and the guacamole is outstanding too.

Overall not too bad for the price.  Wouldn't go out of my way but good.

First off, let me tell you this is a review from a vegetarians perspective.

Anytime i go to Arturo's I have a good experience. They give you salsa and chips while you wait for your food and the SALSA is the BEST!

Its a red sauce with minimal spiciness and a lot more saucy then chunky.

The Tortilla Soup is the best here! No MEAT VEGETARIANS!
Its consists of Crispy Tortilla chips, avocado and white cheese! Its simple and great.

The cheese enchiladas are good and Big and Plentiful, you can eat half for lunch and half for dinner!  You get 3 enchiladas w/ their special sauce and rice and beans on a HUGE plate its awesome for like $5.95

The Fish tacos OR Tacos Del Mar: are good and are not fried! They use the Whole Fillet of Tilapia! Three corn tacos, served with pico de gallo, onion rings and French fries. Their onion rings are really good, seems like a concoction of a beer batter type frying. $7.95 not bad. considering you get 3 fillets and three tacos that will fill you up!

I once was trying to get a booking for the nice little room in the back of the restaurant with a bar. It seemed like a nice place to have a small party of 100 well here in Weslaco. I didn't go thru with the booking because the Manager took a while to get back and if i had a choice i would book again if the opportunity arised.

They always keep your glass Full, and have good service, I will be going back to Arturos in the Future.

I was brought to this place for a quiet Sunday lunch. I had absolutely no idea this place even existed. Judging from the outside, it looked like a nicer dress casual bistro/patio/cafe.

    It's not.

The menu is typical Tex-Mex "Celebration of Starch" fare. Seriously, one menu item was a combo plate with 2 tacos, 2 tamales, 1 chalupa, rice, and beans. Vegetables don't exist here unless you consider the onion rings and French fries that come with almost everything.

I ordered chicken enchiladas in mole sauce with white cheese, which appeared to be Monterey Jack. Even though i specified that i wanted cheese, they came without and i had to ask for it. It came with rice and beans, because a chocolate based sauce and corn tortillas don't carry enough carbs on their own.  I started the meal with "guacamole ranchero," which honestly was just guacamole (avocado, onions, tomatoes, and serranos).  Surprisingly, neither the mole nor the guacamole were spicy at all. Both were tasty, and the shredded spiced white meat chicken in the enchiladas was VERY tender.

My wife had beef fajita tacos with... You guessed it, rice and beans. The fajitas were shockingly tender and marinated with some tangy marinade that really penetrated the meat.

The most interesting course had to be the side salad my wife ordered. It consisted of a few leaves of lettuce, some tomato slices, and a few dill pickle chips. Yes. Pickles. It was like they scraped the toppings off a burger onto a bread plate. The portion was VERY small, yet came with about 1/2 cup of ranch dressing.

The service was mediocre at best. While our waiter was polite and accommodating, he seemed to be the only one in the whole restaurant. Also, I ordered a coke to drink and got diet coke. Not only does it taste different, but I'm allergic to artificial sweeteners, so my body tells me when I'm drinking diet soda. When I alerted the waiter to the mistake, he laughed and made an offhand comment about how it was regular coke but would switch it anyway. Way to take care of your customers.

Whomever is cooking has a skilled hand. With it's weird starchy menu and average service, though, I don't think I'd be back if I had a choice.

So i've been to the restaurant in Nuevo Progresso and do to the complications of travel in Mexico I haven't been there in a couple of years.  But to my surprise Arturo's is now in Weslaco and brings much of the same food that it is well known for.  Most of the food is fantastic, though the fish taco's I had were a little bland.  But the avacado pico was amazing and so is their green sauce.  They need to quit using the french fries as a side dish and stick with their charro beans.  Much better restaurant the Ciro's but still way too much food on the plate.
