My girlfriend and I were heading out for a little road trip on the motorcycle during the 4th of July weekend and going through Sebastopol I saw the Citroen with the mini Eiffel tower sitting on top so I just had to stop and check it out.  We both needed a quick break off the bike so breakfast was in order.

I'm from southern Indiana which the food tends to lean towards southern-ish.  I tell you this so you'd know my credentials are in order when I say this.  :)  I decided to have the biscuits and gravy which is pretty much a staple in southern food.  I can honestly say it was the best biscuits and gravy I think I've ever had!  My girlfriend had the potato bowl which was also very good.

This place is about an hour drive from where we live so yeah, we will be going back.  Such good food and there were quite a few things on the menu that I want to try.

Well...  I have to disagree with some of the negative reviews for Aubergine's food and service.  Went there last night and I was so impressed with the place...  it's got a cool, funky vibe for starters.  But the food that arrived at our table was way better than I was expecting.

the meal started off with fresh baked bread sticks.  These were hot and delicious and were accompanied by a bleu cheese/ranch/dill dressing...  and, a plate of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

We also had a roasted beet salad that was fresh with mixed greens, feta and a simple vinaigrette.

The Caesar salad had whole leaves of crisp Romaine lettuce, shaved parmesan, some deliciously crunchy homemade croutons and a fantastic homemade dressing with overtones of garlic and anchovy...  I really liked this Caesar, especially considering all the soggy, lackluster salads I have consumed elsewhere.

Then there was the lamb sausage.  Contrary to what an other reviewer had said, I found the sausage to be quite homemade and delicious...  especially since it was wrapped up together with caramelized onions and red peppers in a beautiful bread dough and oven baked!

And finally, the fries were some of the best I've ever had.  They were obviously fresh cut and they were cooked to absolute perfection.

All hot food was served hot...  and the salads were cool and refreshing.

As for service, it was top notch, and the owner came to our table several times to make sure that everything was to our liking.

So, Aubergine...  that was a great meal...  thank you!  I'll be back!

it's beyond me how such a cool people friendly place in this wine country mecca can have such a consistently poor wine selection & bad food.  They have been out of stock of Sauvignon Blanc for the last 3 weeks.  Last night the only 2 reds they had were Pinot Noir & Zinfandel.  Have they ever heard that there are some great wineries around here?  Or even a trip to Safeway, down the block, for some stock?

The food is pretty consistently bad.  Last night they were out of the burger & bacon patties, I guess there's a shortage of them.  I had a lamb sausage and fries.  The fries arrived first, and about 10 min later, the lamb sausage, which tasted more like a Louisiana Hot Link.  I can't believe with all the cooking schools and chefs around here they can't find someone who can make a good menu & serve decent food.

I love the vibe of this place, but I think the owner guy who wears skirts must be preoccupied with something else, cuz he sure doesn't give much attention to the quality of what he serves.

Vintage clothes, not for me but cool to look at.

Bar in a shopping store? Live music too....Wait they got food?

I've been here at least a dozen times. The vibe is good overall. Mostly I've been there to see someone's band and my last visit was for a fund raiser. The staff is mostly friendly although not really outgoing except the owner. The food is good pub style food and perfect for the venue.

They always seem to support good causes and give back to the community which is a huge plus.

I like you Aubergine and you're doing great things to support the community. I'm not religious but, amen.

Great place!  Huge inventory of really cool gently used and I think even new vintage clothing.

They now have a full bar in the cafe area and live music 7 days a week.  This is one of the hippest joints arround.

SO RUDE!!! Saw they were open as I drove by with my Mom on Easter Sunday & we pulled in to check it out. The woman didn't even crack a smile when we walked in the door- should've been our first clue.

We wandered the store - most stuff is overpriced for the quality btw. We found a table full of purses marked $10 (posted on one large sign) and picked out 3 old funky but cute bags. When we took them to the counter to check out, the woman asked where we got one of them. I said from the sale table in the back. She said, 'no way, this is at least $22". I told her that it was from the table but no thanks for that price. She then picks up ANOTHER one and tells us it is at least $45- I say, "This too came from the sale table". Her response? "Well then another customer put them there". So I inform her that she should go through her table then- how are customers supposed to decipher sale from others when the purses are not individually marked? She argues back rather than apologize. So tacky. She was so nasty & rude.

We will not be adding this place to our stops when we hit our favorites once a month...their loss- we spend a lot of money when the girls get together!

Huge selection of stuff ! I didn't find any cute vintage stuff I absolutely had to have but I did find some plus sized jeggings (I can't be the only person who hates that word right?!) and some cute kitty fabric. Some items were pretty pricey so make sure you check the tag before you impulse buy. Absolutely worth a stop and don't get disappointed if you don't find anything vintage stores can be hit or miss.

I am super happy with this place for providing GREAT music acts, both unique, cultural, awesome rare finds for music, and yet supporting the local community of musicians.  The food is also quite good.  4 stars vs. 5 because the floor for dancing is on cement - otherwise, the music and good vibe outweighs the sore knees, lol!

Aubergine is one of those spots that I have to stop by every time I visit home. Back when I was in high school and always near Aubergine, I totally disregarded it. (But this also a dark time when I only wore Abercrombie and Finch and American Eagle *shudder*). Then I moved to San Francisco, became awesome and learned the craft of thrifting.

THEN Aubergine became one of my favorite spots. It's packed with funky unique clothes that you are guaranteed not to find anywhere else. Among my treasured finds:

    - a blue floral slip dress (circa 1978) that a friend gave me for my birthday.

-a gorgeous camel hair, fox fur trimmed coat ( perfect for cold San Francisco weather) FOR ONLY  36$

-a sturdy brown leather messenger bag that gets me compliments where ever I have traveled (15$)

and so many cool pairs of boots and shirts.

The warehouse is huge and the conversion of a music venue/ bar and cafe in the back area makes it even much better. (Cafe, food, booze- they got you covered)

After you're done shopping, why not grab a PBR and listen to some cool local bands and relax in this little treasure cove?

I love Aubergine. It is a unique and special place and I always find something that makes me want to come back.

If you love vintage, do not miss this shop. Just the hats and scarves alone are worth a visit, but you could literally spend days here and not see everything they have. They have dresses, cool hosiery, jewelry, accessories, and they even have clothes for men. I was so impressed. Next time you are in Sebastopol, I highly recommend making this one of your stops.

I've been only a few times to see a few different shows.  Each time I couldn't find a place to sit, which takes away a significant part of the experience.  The music was good each time, but the crowd was a bit too weird for me.  Despite living in Sebastopol, you'd think I'd be used to it.  A lot of smokers outside.  The art was not tasteful, too risqué'.  I brought my kids to one of the all ages shows, a teacher from the local High School, and got uncomfortable with the overt sexually explicit paintings (erotic and beautiful, yes, but belong in someone's bedroom).  If you're younger, or single, or a bit wacky, or one of those happy hippy types, you'll like it more perhaps.  I prefer seeing shows at the Hopmonk.

Went to listen to Beso Negro play last weekend and had a fabulous time ( my review is in regard to Aubergine After Dark, where they host bands and have a full bar).  It was only $10 to get in, and although the place is relatively small, my friends and I had plenty of room to dance.  There is a definite hippie vibe (there were many dreadlocked folks in the crowd), and a very chill atmosphere.  This is not a fancy-pants venue, but a laid-back and lots-of-smiles place to go.

There is an area outside for chatting, smoking and playing pool (and you can bring your drinks out there, an added bonus).

One of the major downsides, however, is that they only have ONE bathroom, so be prepared to stand in line.  The bathroom itself almost makes up for the wait, however, as it is magnificently decorated (bright paint and a disco ball).

Overall I had a great time and my friends and I will be returning soon.

The ultimate "Sebastopol" music venue...on a recent open mike occasion there was a fine band playing inside, and outside on the patio there were two musical acts, just jamming/practicing. A couple of pool games going.. and more. One could wander about and partake in a smorgasbord of interesting activities. It's a laid back place with decent drinks and food.  The staff is friendly and helpful.  Fab bands entertain frequently with affordable cover charges.
Great people watching: Sebastopudlians like to dress up, even when we are grown up! Actually, we are actively resisting the 'growing up' thing.

This huge warehouse not only holds a very organized and large selection of vintage clothing, accessories, and linens but also has a cute little cafe, a full bar, and a live music stage.  It's a cool place to hang out or poke around in at any time of day.  During the day, Aubergine is a vintage mecca, with racks and racks of vintage items at very reasonable prices and organized for easy shopping.  During the evening, it's a cool place to hang out.  Then bands that I have seen here have been pretty good, the bar is friendly, there are a couple of pool tables in the courtyard outside, and the food looks good (I haven't tried it). Recommended!

This is a good place to buy vintage clothes.  The selection is immense and there are some amazingly unique pieces.  I also love the cafe and nightclub.  The feeling is very welcoming and the music has always been really good.  A super fun place to meet friends, have a drink, have a bite and maybe dance.  Our kids love going too.  There are always some other kids there and they have a ball.  Getting to dance to great live funk with my 9 year old son is a highlight!

I like going to Aubergine, just to wander around.
    Shopping is just meh.
Honestly, half the stuff they have is really beat up/overpriced/outdated etc...
I have on the other hand gotten a GREAT prom dress there, and seen some really nice quality cowboy boots. If you have a day and your bored in Sebastopol its worth it to stop by, but don't have high hopes on finding anything super wearable.

The epitome of cool.  Okay, west county funky cool.  Great place all the way around.  Watcha want?  Pool table - two.  Darts - two in their own area.  Couches - beaucoup.  Dentist chair - yes, really.  Super music venue open to locals and names.  Delhi 2 Dublin.  Great raves, masqerade parties, DJ's, rocking bands.  Love the staff. Finally they got the food down - awesome pizzas, nachos - good beer stuffings. Vintage clothing store is huge.  Perfect for all the dress up events.
If BM had a decompress bar - this would be it.
    Welcome to Sopassthebowl.

Vintage store by day, restaurant and music venue by night.  I'll say it again, any place that has it's own sound guy - is likely going to rate higher in my book of musical venue preferences.  It makes the difference.  The food was decent - nachos were tasty, my boyfriend had some chicken satay on a stick (this vegetarian passed thankyouverymuch) and said it was tasty as well.  I give the venue 4 stars for music, 3 for food - not a huge menu, but it works when you're listening to music and need some nosh.

The place gets PACKED at night.  And the nice thing is if you really, REALLY want to chat with your friends during the music - well, there's a great patio outside that's nice and quiet, with pool tables, etc.

I love this place, just cool and original. Other reviewers told you about the clothes, I want to talk about the bar/music venue.

I've been four times in the past month. Every time the audience will not stop talking over the musicians. What are you saying that is so interesting to me? Nothing. Blahblahblah-Awesome! Blahblahblah-Amazing! Blahblahblah-Totally! Blahblahblah-Hella Amazing! Totally!

The thing is, there is a great patio, with couches, vintage barber chairs, a fountain, pool tables. Go outside, you can still hear the music, and we can give the performers the respect and attention they deserve and crave.

I wish there were signs posted, and the musicians would even encourage the audience to settle down and focus. It's done all over the world. That is my wish.

Also, Blake rocks the pizza. My friend was overheard saying, "I guess they just don't do 'wrong' here." after a couple bites as we awaited Zach Deputy for $10.

    'Quiet, please'

I love this place! It's like shopping in a museum. They have a huge selection, some of which is really affordable and some, not so much.

The condition of the clothes really varies - it's not unusual to find two similar pieces, one pristine and the other full of stains and moth holes, for the same price. I always look anything I buy over really carefully.

Haven't tried the cafe out, but when it's open, it seems popular (odd hours).

The clothing is great if but high priced. The super wide selection well makes up for it.

Can't say the same for the restaurant. Was served a cookie that was half raw, and was argued with when I tried to tell the kitchen. When the young chef heard he said, "they would take it under review", but left them out to be served. Then the waitress asked me if I was done with the drink, to which a 'no' response prompted her to stick her thumb down the inside to carry it away. Nice setting, but terrible restaurant management, have more respect for the craft.

This is an incredibly awesome spot for live music.  I havent eaten her so Ill have to do that sometime and get back to you all. The vintage store has a TON of stuff, most of which is too small for my gargantuan 6'4 225lb self, but still! The prices are a little high (think Buffalo Exchange in the SF) but ya know sometimes its worth it to have someone else scour the the thrift stores and yard sales to find the perfect item just for you.  Just saying. Onward! The Bar is fantastic the drink specials we great and the bartender was really cool. The little stage in the corner is great for seeing, say, John Courage, live and the sound is surprisingly good.  Anyhow, This is sweet little joint thats great to hang out with friends and listening  to good tunes.  Thanks Aubergines!

First off, kudos to the Aubergine folks for bringing a new and fresh idea to Sebastopol, I really hope it sticks around and continues to improve. The vintage shop/ restaurant / live music venue is a really great concept, and the fact that they are often all ages is a big bonus for us parental units that still like to get out.
That being said, the store side of the building could use improvement in many ways. Any experienced vintage shopper knows firsthand that $75 for a jacket that you could walk into the goodwill and get for $7.99 is just asking for a "shame on you" review. There are some vintage gems but they are far too pricey for the average collector, or someone who really knows their stuff, I know it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but come on. That coupled with the almost non-existent, too cool to care staff leads me to give one less star than I would have.
And then we move on to the cafe'. The food is better than expected but the system is way unorganized and my friends and I have more than once been there to eat and been charged extra or given the wrong ticket. The bar staff are generally overwhelmed and dare not look up to catch your eye on a busy night. They serve "infused" liqueurs, which in their case means throwing some sliced fruit into a vat of iced vodka. Gross.
The variety of performers and musicians they book is inspiring and leaves me hopeful, although it would be nice to feel like you are not walking into a post-burning man reunion party, the clique is incessant and may leave any outsider feeling just plain left out.
Last but not least, GET ANOTHER BATHROOM!! When you are serving food and drinks to upwards of 200 people, one co-ed bathroom will never suffice.

    WHOA! WTF?!

Admiring the Vintage sign on the way to Claypool Cellars, I knew I HAD to stop by on the way home...WTF is this place doing out in Sebastopol?!

SUPER vintage outlet... awesome selection of dresses, sweaters, boots & shoes and oddly- lots of nightgowns and bustiers? weird, but ok... AMAZING homemade bloody marys (hello bar in a quirky store - genius!), and SWEET dj'ed music...

    YES YES YES!

Last week I bought a cashmere sweater for $30, when I got home I found about 5 holes. It's so dark in their store and it works to their advantage! I called the store and they said "no returns"! They then said that "They knowingly accept damaged merchandise cause it sells anyway! and my sweater still had good wear left it in it!"  If the sweater had said "as is" it would have been my choice, but it didn't.
Today I had an appointment to sell my fabulous and extensive vintage collection to the owner, in preparation for their booth at the big Vintage Show in SF. They said they were very interested and excited to see what I had, so I worked for 3 days preparing my items for sale. Before I head over, I call to see if they were also interested in shoes and an employee says they're not able to see me today! I reminded her of my appt and she said it didn't matter and they changed their minds! I asked her why no one called to let me know and she couldn't say why. I then asked if I could speak with the owner and she said he was too busy and that I should try another time!
These self righteous fools have wasted my entire week. Total disregard for their client base and no respect for other's time. I wouldn't be their customer again, way better shops in the SF anyway.

The prices here are great-the selection is amazing.Best part-organized to the max.Dressing room is very Burning Man. My husband ..NOT a shopper ended up buying 3 things. The cafe was packed because of the World cup-they have a huge screen. Plan on going back and back.

I gotta take back a couple of stars. Soon after writing my last review I noticed a change for the bad. Service is very confused. Bar and Kitchen has no communication which has had me realizing that I paid double for my food   when treating a friend to dinner and a couple of drinks. Which also happened to two friends - careful when treating or just paying for yourself,  they don't inform you that someone else has already paid, which they HAVE to know because they charged SOMEONE else for the same thing 2 minutes before! I mean how many checks do they write up per person? Servers will demand that you haven't paid your bill when you've already paid it. (Happened twice, also)  and when you show them your receipt they don't even apologize for being rude. The food has gone from really good and good portions to pretty good, over priced and small portions.
Also, they aren't as clean as the were when they first opened. Sorry guys. Glasses are dirty, water has dirt in it when you pour from the pitchers... not good.

I was going to knock it down to 3 stars but after writing all of this, I'm knocking it down one more.  The only reason I'm leaving 2 up there is that the Chef did come out once to ask if the server was rude to us. Unfortunately my friend said "no" before I could say yes and I just agreed which was dumb of me, but just in the moment.

I just stopped by for the Cafe Lunch! So damn delicious! & great on the budget! I had green kale salad, roasted eggplant panini, & curried lentil soup. Everything was deeply flavored to perfection. The staff was great. We got to chat with the chef.. The ambiance is surprisingly bright & cheery. Our tea & latté were fabulous. Great music, & great clothes shopping all there!

This place is like no other vintage clothing store that I've ever seen because most of the items come from Europe and it's the size of a warehouse (over 10,000 sq ft.).  They even have a café and free movie nights.

Outside of the store, they had racks of $9.95 vintage dresses from European brands I've never heard of like Stoobi and Koolhaas (unfortunately most of them were polyester), $100 Burberry coats, and thick European wool sweaters (the wool wasn't soft though).

Inside they have baskets filled with vintage scarves, new scarves ($5 and up), camisoles ($1.95), vintage belts, vintage wallets ($5), garter belts ($3), bustiers, new European pantyhose, bras, a wall of vintage leather boots, jeans, ethnic dresses, blouses organized by color and era (lots of ruffled ones, $7 and up), dresses (mostly poly, $20-30) from the 70s and 80s, dirndls, gypsy skirts, sweaters (too many acrylic ones), wool capes, coats, vintage umbrellas, purses galore, vintage shoes, hats, Nordic sweaters, etc.

I liked quite a few shoes but they weren't in very good condition (for the most part).  I spied a pair of mint condition black satin Bruno Magli shoes for $12!

They also sell new jewelry, hosiery, shoes, incense, and lingerie.  There's a consignment section with contemporary clothing.  And that's only the women's section.

They also have things for the home - vintage luggage, vintage fabrics, albums (and a record player listening station). And they have vintage Mardi Gras beads and buttons.

    My picks:
    * Men's wife beaters, European style, with geometric designs
    * Bow tie selection (I bought a few, inspired by Chuck Bass)
    * Canvas tote bags from Germany ($2.95) from bakeries, banks, pharmaceutical companies, etc.

Though some of the shoes and purses look dusty, the clothing and some accessories smell recently laundered.  The clothing is unique and affordable, particularly if you don't mind the lack of natural fibers.

This place has an awesome selection of crazy vintage stuff- all shipped over from Amsterdam.

5 million beautiful vintage corsets in every color you could ever imagine.
Fluffy boots that look like they were made for the snow in Russia.
    Vintage rock T-shirts.
    Scarves! Omg tons of them!
Jeans, dresses, shoes, purses, basically everything you can imagine and its all vintage and ridiculously cheap.

... but the staff is never friendly or helpful in my opinion.

An overwhelming selection of vintage at great prices! I ended up buying a really unusual coral-colored embroidered dress and a patterned polyester shirt. I was sort of expecting to buy more, oh well.

I love vintage shopping, and Yelp directed me to Aubergine while I was in town, visiting from New England.

I was lucky enough to visit during a huge 50%-off-the-whole-store sale, but I think the selection may have been more depleted than normal. They said they were going to get a new shipment in from Europe in August.

This is honestly the best vintage store I have ever been to.

Some things I like about Aubergine:

As a woman, I have no problem finding vintage clothing for myself.  For my boyfriend, however, it seems a little more difficult, seeing as how the market for womens vintage seems to be bigger than the market for mens vintage.  Aubergine has just as much mens clothing as they do womens.  Ladies can take their gentlemen out shopping and the men won't be completely bored!  In fact, they'll probably find some great pieces to take home, too.

Also, they have a massive selection of...well, everything.  You don't have to be petite to shop here, either.  I'm pretty petite, but I have lots of friends who don't like how they are unable to wear most vintage clothing.  Thankfully, Aubergine has such a massive selection that you're bound to find plenty of things for you to wear.

I am a complete Europhile and I love that they carry European vintage.  I got some nice little German oxfords for a really good price on my first visit.

The prices are the best I've seen out of all of the vintage stores I've been to.

Aubergine is incredible.  Check them out sometime.

I love this place. Excellent prices and an excellent selection. In fact, their selection is a little too excellent. Careful not to get too overwhelmed. Before you get there it might be a good idea to make a tentative list of things you're going to actively seek. Then you'll probably run into a bunch of other really great stuff along the way. Pretty much everything I own that I've purchased from Aubergine receives compliments. Which isn't why I actually wear clothes. I wear clothes so I don't have to be naked.

I hate shopping. But several times a year I suck it up and then buy a ton of shit in hopes that I won't have to go again for quite some time.

I discovered the Occidental location of Aubergine a while ago (it has since closed) and was in love with it. Yes, a girl who hates shopping was in love with a clothes store.

So I decided to check out the Sebastopol store after hearing friends rave about it. It is a bit overwhelming because it's so huge! But it's incredibly well organized and has amazing stuff at really great prices. I only hit the dress section, but that was enough for me for one day. I love wearing dresses - it's kind of like being able to wear a nightgown out of the house. If I could wear a dress every day of my life, I'd be a happy girl. Aubergine is helping me meet that goal. I got a ton of great dresses ranging in price from $10 to $50.

On my second trip back to the dress section, I noticed these amazing 60s brown suede boots with two columns of gold studs going up the front of them. After dropping off my huge pile of dresses at the front counter, I went to try them on. And that's where I met one of the buyers for the store. I don't know his name, but he was really sweet, stylish, helpful, and HOT! He was excited that the boots fit me and quickly pointed out a bunch of other boots that he had found at the same place. I automatically fell in love with these incredibly hot white go-go boots. The hot guy helped me get them on and then gushed about how awesome they were on me and how sexy they made my legs look. Can  you say "SOLD!"? Now all I need is to find out if that guy is single and have him come to my house and be my private buyer, if you know what I mean...

The girls at the front counter were awesome too. They were really sweet and funny and also really hot.

Who knew there were so many good looking people in Sebastopol? I should move there and be with my people...

Amazing vintage clothing store. All the clothes are brought in from Holland. Whoever owns this place knows what they are doing. Amazing brady bunch polyester shirts. Huge, huge selection of motorcycle jackets and leathers. Huge womens vintage dress/scarf collection at unbelievable prices. Go now before the masses find out. They have the original location in Occidental- this is a new huge location in the old Antique building.
