Review Source:When DJ Steve puts on a dance at Monroe Hall, you're know you're going to have a good time! The calendar boasts a terrific assortment of dances: Nightclub Two-Step, Swing (East & West Coast), Zydeco, Waltz, Motown/Disco/Rock 'n Roll, Country, etc.
Beginning and intermediate lessons precede each dance, usually with top-notch instructors. (Both lesson and dance together usually cost only $10 p/p.) As a DJ, Steve does a great job of playing a variety of music, and the crowd is always varied, too, as well as friendly and relaxed.
Often Steve brings in first-class live bands (e.g., Flambeau, Stompy Jones, etc.), too, and admission and lesson again are reasonably priced (usually just $15). It makes for a lot of fun in a funky place with really nice people and great music. Be sure to arrive early enough, however, to find a parking spot, because--not surprisingly--a lot of people know about these dances. In fact, they come not only from Santa Rosa and the larger Sonoma County, but from all over the Bay Area.
If you enjoy dancing, or if you've just been thinking about getting into it, this is the place! Check it out, and then get on Steve's mailing list so you can make this place a regular part of your weekend nightlife.
