wahooo and yeeeha! The Monroe hall caters to all varieties of dancing. The teachers are truly wonderful and make you feel quite comfortable (even if you trip up) Great atmosphere. unique decorating, kind of throws you back through a couple decades. I feel it is amazing to have such an awesome piece of history still in the making. The monroe hall is an asset to our county!
Review Source:When DJ Steve puts on a dance at Monroe Hall, you're know you're going to have a good time! The calendar boasts a terrific assortment of dances: Nightclub Two-Step, Swing (East & West Coast), Zydeco, Waltz, Motown/Disco/Rock 'n Roll, Country, etc.
Beginning and intermediate lessons precede each dance, usually with top-notch instructors. (Both lesson and dance together usually cost only $10 p/p.) As a DJ, Steve does a great job of playing a variety of music, and the crowd is always varied, too, as well as friendly and relaxed.
Often Steve brings in first-class live bands (e.g., Flambeau, Stompy Jones, etc.), too, and admission and lesson again are reasonably priced (usually just $15). It makes for a lot of fun in a funky place with really nice people and great music. Be sure to arrive early enough, however, to find a parking spot, because--not surprisingly--a lot of people know about these dances. In fact, they come not only from Santa Rosa and the larger Sonoma County, but from all over the Bay Area.
If you enjoy dancing, or if you've just been thinking about getting into it, this is the place! Check it out, and then get on Steve's mailing list so you can make this place a regular part of your weekend nightlife.
Contra Dancing at Monroe Hall
Monroe Hall is Santa Rosa's original social dance hall. Â It has beautiful maple hardwood floors and a completely unique decor!
Our group: the North Bay Country Dance Society sponsors Contra Dances at Monroe Hall on the 3rd Friday of each month. Â Lesson at 7:30, dance begins at 8pm
Contra Dances are easy, fun, friendly and inclusive. Â Contra Dance is a form or American Folk Dance. Â It is HIGH energy and very FUN! Â All dances are taught and prompted, with live music. No partner is required, no costumes, no classes; just wear comfortable clothes and dancing shoes which are low, smooth-soled, comfortable and that do not mar or scratch or damage. Beginning dancers encouraged to come early for an orientation, and for simpler dances early in the evening.
I have been doing Contra Dance for about 10y ears and there is nothing that I can think of that is more fun and socially engaging.
