The food here is just okay, but when the restaurant turns into a bar with live music, the people watching is spectacular! The inside has been remodeled since last time I've been in; it is open, with the bar in the middle.

They have great bands and people of all ages come to party! When the night gets crazy, you don't even realize you're in the little sleeper town of Newbury Park!

No joke... Their special of the day was tacos. I asked how they were and the woman behind the bar told me "They're almost as good as taco bell" hahah Food is no bueno. The only thing cool about the place is they have a bus to take you home if you've had too much to drink. I do have to commend them for that.

Went here to watch a friends band play. The other reviewers are right, loser alcoholic punks. Possibly the worst service ever. I arrived with a couple friends and we took a corner booth. Now we are 40 something, calm and normal people just coming to support a friends band. You would never know we were there we are so low key. So my friend likes great service so he handed our waitress $100 tip before we even ordered and told her to not be a stranger when the drinks or food was running low at our table. She served one round of drinks and told us she was off for the night but dumb bimbo #2 would be taking care of us. From there the night takes a nose dive. Food was terrible, not right, drinks were slow. asked for napkins twice, ended up getting them myself. Then the kicker; out of nowhere someone throws a used pregnancy test across the bar and it hits me in the face and lands in our chips and dip. Yes you read that right...a used pregnancy test, WTF??? Nobody there could care less, they looked at me like I was crazy. No one wanted to review cameras, look for the A-hole who threw it, nothing. It was just same crappy service as usual. They did offer a new order of chips, yippee that makes up for my possible contraction of Hep-C, HIV or Herpes. Never will go back and I will tell everyone I know to never visit this dump.

Loud idiots and a-holes. In all my years in the Conejo and NP, I had never had the desire to visit Azar's. It has always been "that place in Newbury Park with a clique of regulars who There aren't enough colorful descriptions to explain what a jerkwad bunch of Bud drinking losers that are there in this dive-----all the time. It's worse than The Red Onion was---at least The Red Onion was hip with outstanding drinks and selection. Especially fun are the smoking punks who hide behind the sun shade outsidegiving you lots and lots of second hand smoke to coat your clothing upon entry. Obviously, the management lacks the guts to enforce the no smoking laws. Then, you have the stupid twits and bubbleheads for servers and bartenders.
Guys with low self-esteem gravitate to places like this. You can dance badly to plenty of tone deaf bands like Tasty Thieves and Old School. The remodel can't change the skank atmosphere that Azar's has had since the 80's. The food sucked, my drinks were weak, they probably put generic alcohol in the top shelf bottles. Clearly, the staff plays favorites to the clientele. Even good tips have no effect on attentive service.
So, if you're also a needy loudmouth alcoholic idiot looking to pick a fight with your dipwick friends by your side, you'll fit right in. Everyone else, maybe go to Cronie's or maybe The Tipsy Goat.

Only been here once and will be coming back for a friends birthday in a month... hope to have a bit more insight at that time.

However, as a first time experience it was a decent one. This place actually gets a bit busy with live music that goes on later in the evening. This is not your fancy bar by any means, your typical dive bar.

The staff was friendly and maybe I am biased because my other friend use to work here, but the shot I got was... I should say full? They were not stingy by any means!

I can definitely see myself coming back, I enjoy VERY laid back places like this once in awhile.

You're best off leaving Azar's to it's regulars and go some place else.
OK,, you've been warned. Don't find out the hard way.

We've been by-default customers since day one. It's where our friends walk to.
Slow, lazy service, cold food, indifferent attitudes from servers and bartenders.
Tips not appreciated.

Definably the over 45 crowd, with a few younger women occasionally sprinkled in.
Hard core alcoholic regulars, some friendly, most not so friendly and you may be their target and trouble will soon follow.

Food almost average for a bar, uninspired and sometimes prepared and served with a bad attitude. Crap shoot on the quality. The food is a condition of the liquor license, so their heart isn't in it and it shows.

Full bar, but none of the newer alcohols or beers. Azars probably hasn't introduced a new liquor or beer in 20 years, perhaps even since Miller Lite came on the market 30+ years ago.
Grey Goose, Mic Ultra, Miller 64, Bud Select,, what in the hell is that???

You may be forgotten after your first drink and have to walk up to the waitress station to get served.

All sports on what must be 30 televisions. But what is goofy, only two Sunday NFL games may be playing on them all, and non-playoff contenders at that.

Lotto and keno, but no player tickets, live music some nights and dancing.

Indifferent, evasive, usually absent, cold owner. Has a bar with a few hacking and wheezing drunk people,, so why should he care? Won't kick out the assholes and his cash register pays the price.

Used to be brutal with the smoke-filled choking and strangling dining room and bar, but the smoking patio in front solved that issue, the place is cleaner than in years past.

Plenty of parking, but park 2 blocks away for obvious reasons. You'll wish you did.

I remember this place being a super grungy dive bar back in the day. It's been a while since I'd been there so I decided to grab a drink and check it out again. Much to my surprise it appears grungy dive bar is no longer the case for Azar's. The place is cleaned up and comes complete with a mini dance floor and live bands. I didn't try the food but there's a full menu with all the things you'd expect from a sports bar. There's a full bar and the bartenders seemed to know what they were doing.

As an added bonus for guys, find the secret 3 urinal equipped other bathroom all the way in the back during those desperate times.

Sorry I bothered today
Bunch of overly loud crude guys in front of us and after a full quarter of football. They changed the TV I was comfortably watching for another game of some friends who arrived late. Probably my last time in azars. Pity!

This place gets a bad rap but it is so cool. Yes, you are not in douche riddled Los Angeles, but a small quiet bedroom community. The live bands and DJ's rival anything you can get over the hill. If you live in the area, a great place to hang out!!

Very neighborhood-y (of course). They do stop serving lunch at 2:30pm so we were late to the game. There was only one server taking care of well over 20 people at the bar + tables but she was doing it with a smile.

We discovered ths place through http://Restaurant.com. The first time we went there, we were a bit discouraged when we first pulled up as it just appeared to be a dive bar...and we almost didnt go in..but OMG..we were SO glad we decided to stay. Our server Brieann was awesome from the start...they have a HUGE menu..and being in the rest. business myself..I was a little skeptical of HOW good everything could be since the menu was so extensive for such a small place. Let me tell you..everything we tried was amazing. We have been there many times now and the food is awesome.!! I love the steaks and I wanted to try the coconut shrimp appetizer since I love Outbacks so much ..but was leary ..Bree told me it was good so I tried it.. it is the BEST I ever had..way better than Outback!!!!!!! The drinks are great and on Sunday nites they have a DJ..a band on weekends although we usually leave before then ...but check this place it .you wont be disappointed!

Let me start by saying the Pam and Coryn rock!!!

Pam makes a mean drink and Coryn serves with a smile!

Newly revamped interior-including an ice bar-more space inside for crazy kickballers on Monday nights, more TVs for football on Sundays. Dj Christopher is pretty good too.

Sliders are awesome, the oysters rock, fries are yummy...
If you are going to drink like some of the people resembling fish-please be responsible and call a cab or get a ride PLEASE.

dive bar extraordinaire! Can't wait for softball to start again!

*I did say that it wasn't good for kids, but my kids LOVE it,a teen and toddler. although I am not in the habit of taking my toddler to dive bars, but we sit inside at a dinner table near the huge fishtank, between that and the blank placemats, she's set!

This is one of my favorite places to go for drinks, although Im not a regular... The drinks are large and generous, there are always hammered (but happy) people there, and in the evenings a band, which is mind bendingly loud but fun.

Do NOT leave drunk unless you have a designated driver... You will get caught as its quite often staked out.

I actually came in first time in 2010 to see if they had job for my 17 year old daughter, who was a real snotty, entitlement girl. I wanted them to have her clean grease traps, lift heavy boxes, sweat, get yelled at, basically anything hard and difficult so she would appreciate what she has. Of course I'm over exaggerating, and being under 21 she couldn't work there. Anyway, I'm so glad I stopped in! The bartenders are awesome and the new ice bar is very cool! I've been introduced to some regulars and they're friendly and courteous. My business partner and I saw a band earlier this year and they rocked. When i checked in a discount coupon popped up on my phone, very cool! Even though the place was packed the waitress handled it like a pro. Think her name Coryn, not sure on spelling. Wish I could get there more often, especially to say hi to the bartender Jenell who is one of the nicest you'll ever meet. Definitely recommend.

If you haven't been in here in awhile you should check it out. The owner spent a lot of time and money revitalizing the place, moved the bar, added an ice rail ( yeah like vegas) and just opened it up a bit.
They have a new menu with lots of great items and still very good steaks and weekend specials. Live music after 9 on weekends always good and if you like to watch sports then this is the place on Sat and Sun .
Overall a great local place

I would like to give this this place another star or two and I will if they take the word "Steakhouse" off of their sign. I just went there for the first time and ordered a steak. The dinner was bland and boring, veggies sautéed in just butter, plain white rice, and a grilled steak that was as plain as plain gets. I wouldn't have tried the steak dinner if they didn't claim to be a steakhouse.

As a local sports bar I would rate it at three or four stars. Friendly people, lots of TVs, and a full bar. I just can't give a place high marks if they call themselves what they are not and a steakhouse they are not.

Let me start with this: I've lived in NP for 10 years... Heck, I can walk to azars from my house now and I've never been here. Based on previous reviews and my own personal opinion (from driving by), I've always thought Azar's to be a crusty dump inhabited by cougar divorcees that'll drug you, take you home and, have their way with you. Well, I finally went there. And here I am [alive] to tell about it.

Maybe it's because I was expecting the worst that I was pleasantly surprised or Azar's is actually pretty cool. Likely both, but either way my friends and I had a good time out on a Friday night.

Azars is clean and the service was very good. The drinks we're good and average priced. The band that happened to be playing had a great energy and everybody was having fun. One thing I noticed and enjoyed was that everybody was there - from people in their mid 20's, to married couples, to cougars, to single guys, and even a few 65+ folks (old folks in bars are awesome).

Overall a pretty cool local bar. Probably not the best place to 'meet' people (if that's what your looking for), but fun nonetheless. See you there.

I don't know why people are rating this place so low. Some of you guys give the place a decent review and then only a rating of 3. Don't be so scrimpy with your review points!

Anyway, I think Azar's is a nice little bar. And, if you haven't been there lately, they expanded so there is plenty of room for drinking and dining. I've brought several friends there and we've never had a complaint. Service is friendly and the drinks and food are good.

Also, I was in there the other night when they had a band and although the band members looked like they warped in from the 80's, they were good.

Yeah, this place has been around for years. One might call it an anachronism, stuck in the 70's. It's funky here. I like the smell.

Multiple video screens are 360 degrees, good for watching the game.

The food is surprisingly good for a dive like this, big selection too. Service is good.

The clientele appears to be mostly longtime regulars. It's open early for breakfast and hangover drinks, and the gossip tends to be loud so it's easy to tell who's who. Same thing at night, "the regulars", plus a few novices.

I've heard a few of the bands on the weekends, and they've all sounded fairly pedestrian to my jaded ears. But hey, the dance floor sure does fill up as the night goes on!

Had read the reviews and frankly, while was interested in trying Azar's, expectations were low. Dive bars can be great, or if the vibe is not right, just not for you. BUT, glad we went. Sat at a booth over next to the bar area, great, very friendly and attentive service (to the point where my wife and server were comparing shopping suggestions) and the red meat comfort food just hit the spot. The band started, cheesy cover tunes, but hey, they and the crowd were having fun and isn't that what it is about? Then came the shot specials...yum! Have been back for breakfast, yummy stuff that tastes great, especially with the bloody marys... will get back soon for breakfast and actually watch a game.

This place is a true "dive bar." Even if you didn't know beforehand what a dive bar was, you would know instantly once you walked into this place. It's well-worn, not glamorous, but comfortable and laid back.

Had a "different" experience here, but not necessarily bad. Visited after work during what would normally be considered "happy hour" time at other locations. Within moments, the scene changed seamlessly from "happy hour" to "senior citizens karaoke night." Don't get me wrong! It didn't bother me at all. Actually, we stayed quite some time and watched the cute performances.

Try the Patty Melt! I've never tried anything else, but this was very tasty. I think this place deserves a chance and, if you happen to be in the mood for Patty Melts, you won't be disappointed.

I really wanted to be able to like this place, but... well, they're right -- sketchy dive bar... We'd come here for dinner because they have live music -- or what passes for it anyway. The band tried, but I mean, it's Newbury Park.

The whole place seemed really old. I don't mean that the building was old. I meant that everybody could have been my parents. People are alluding to some service problems, though, and we didn't have any or get any sort of attitude at all. It had this way of feeling like such a dirty place, though, even though I didn't actually see any dirt. I guess it's just the crummy, garage sale style furniture and the way it was just really, really downscale.

The 1 is mainly about the ambiance and the food. They do so much of this red meat and comfort food. It's really something that's supposed to be hard to screw up, and yet I felt like buying them a spice rack or something because it so devoid of any flavor. The portions were good, but not so much the price. I really have had worse, but it's not worth your time.

Sketchy dive bar...that has a window you can order beer at...weird. It's like McDonalds...but with beer? But Amgen's band (Facing West) was playing here so we checked it out. Food was kind of expensive frankly for the quality. Would probably only come back to get beer...not anything else. Yuck. Weird food plus window beer...are you sure you belong in Thousand Oaks Azar's?

Not really a fan. I used to go here a fair bit because people I work with liked it. The patio is great but the beer is not, and that's why I stopped going. I've never had the food here.

Since i'm a local, I come here quite often. They always have pretty cool bands, and everyone in here is super friendly. There are always way more men then there are women, and that is better for me because I always get to drink for free.. yay!! The waitstaff is really cool and the bouncers are hot and nice too. FYI - cops love the joint, so if your leaving at two and have been drinking, pry better to get a cab.
Also, the food is really good - I came in here on a Saturday for lunch and had a hamburger, all the people that are there in the nighttime are in there during the day too ??? lol it was super fun and I go back all the time.. It is like cheers!!!

This place has been around forever. It started out as Azar's Red Robin, then it became Azar's the dive bar, then Azar's the remodeled dive bar, and now it is Azar's Bar and Steakhouse.

After having dinner, my BFF and I walked over to Azar's. They expanded the place and it now has a lot more booths. We didn't eat there but we did talk to this couple who was celebrating their 57th anniversary and they said the food id great.

We had a few glasses of wine. We weren't impressed with the wine but it was only $6 a glass.

As for the clientele, my BFF (who is 32) was probably the youngest one in there. But it was Valentine's Day and I couldn't imagine young people (single or coupled) would go here for V day. And the guys there... well, they were a bit creepy.

As for the service, they were awesome.

A plus... you can drink out front and they even have a little window where you can walk up to so you don't have to go back inside to get drinks. Hhahaha.... so Thousand Oaks.

For a regular place, I give them two stars.
For a place in TO three stars is fitting, but I don't live there so it's two.

I love this bar. It has the most comfortable booths. the food is pretty good and good pricing. the drinks are cheap and stong. the bathrooms - recently remodeled are always clean and have really nice fixtures. the waitresses are sweet and attentive. there are tvs everywhere for sports fans. the bands are ok - but the music is happy dance music and everyone enjoys dancing. there is an outdoor area for smokers. all in all, this place has it all.

here's why i gave it 1 star:

1. horrible service by snooty female bartenders ...what's to be snooty about? it's not like you're working at a high end bar or lounge

2. $12.00 for a pitcher of bud light...yes, BUD LIGHT. And it wasn't even a full size pitcher, it was the smaller size pitcher that bus boys use to refill your water glass!

seems like a busy place and i know people who like it but i wouldn't go back...

I know I look young, but there's really no excuse for a place to card me three times. At the door was fine, and I even gave the first bartender the benefit of a doubt when she justified that some kids have somehow managed to sneak in. But when the other bartender rudely demanded to see my ID, after I'd already had a drink and wasn't making an attempt to get another, I was done.

The first bartender made a really kick-ass vodka cranberry, but it really isn't worth it. We saved the night by heading elsewhere.

Word on the street, cops like Azar's for meeting their quotas for tickets on Friday and Saturday night. It's ok for loud, live music, and ok drinks. Keeping it real.
