Picture says it all; cheap drinks, lousy food. I had a mini-burger (actually 1/4 pound), they don't offer fries so I had a potato salad and a Dr. Pepper.

The food was no good, and my soda was flat. Cheap drinks, lousy food; that says it all.

Wonderful place to go for lunch! Decent prices, casual atmosphere, indoor/outdoor seating and exceptional food! From their sandwiches to their burgers you can't go wrong!

I love this place. My man and I have been several times and have never been disappointed. The food is awesome and because it is just down the street from my Dad in law who lives in Sugarloaf, we can enjoy a good meal without having to go into the village.

I almost always have the Ruben sandwich because it really is the best I have ever had, but we were there yesterday and I opted for the chicken salad sandwich. I love chicken salad and was thrilled with BJ's, which was fresh and delicious. Not too much mayo and just enough crunch with the addition of celery.

What I really like about BJ's is the fact that you can choose your own bread, even on burgers, which, by the way are yummy. I usually have the potato or cole slaw, but yesterday decided on macaroni, which is just as good as Mum used to make. Sorry Mum! Dean had a sub yesterday and was impressed with the sheer size and taste. No skimping on portions or meat in any of BJ's menu items.

If you want an excellent meal that will not break your budget, you can't do better than BJ's. Great staff, awesome food and a rustic atmosphere, especially when the sun is shining and you can eat outside. Oh, and the beer on tap is always cold, and if you want more than a glass, but not a full pitcher, BJ's has small pitchers, which is just enough for two.

Warm beer. Beef wasn't fresh. They get two stars because the waitress was nice.

Was a bit scared when I first entered.  Place didnt look too great. Ordered the chili burger and was blown away by how good it was.  Side salad (slaw or potato) was a very small portion but good.  Burger was huge!  Don't go for the ambience ;)

CASH ONLY. Found this place here on Yelp in a Big Bear "lunch" search. It definitely has a divey biker bar vibe, but the service, prices and food were all great. We took advantage of the nice weather and sat out on the patio. Minus 1 star down from 5 due to CASH ONLY policy. Can you say "tax evasion"? Who knows?

Pretty simple menu: sandwiches and burgers and no fries--you don't need 'em anyway :) Attention vegetarians: you be be OK at this burger bar. I had one of the best garden burgers ever and it was less than $7, including a small side of home made peppery potato salad, which was not laden with too much mayo. The macaroni salad and vinegar-based cole slaw also seemed home made as well. Other veggie options include a garden melt (like a patty melt) and a cold veggie sandwich. Carnivores will also be highly satisfied with burgers in about four different sizes, including a one pound(!) version for the truly adventurous. House pale ale was very reasonable at $11.50 for a pitcher. Kid's meals were what they should be: a very reasonable $3.50 each.

Big Bear Lake tourists should know that this place is on the other end of town in Big Bear City. It will take a bit longer to get to, but if you're OK with the slightly gritty atmosphere, you'll love the rest.

We waited a while for our waitress to help us (the place was near empty), but when she did, she was nice.  After that initial long wait, she was attentive.   I had the burger; it was really really good.  The coleslaw is vinegar-based and not may-based which I found disappointing.  We tried the chili because of other Yelp reviews and it was indeed good.  My husband got the beef dip and was content because he wasn't all that hungry, but it looked like a sandwich for dieters.  It didn't have much meat in it.  In the end, we would go back for the burgers and chili (they are even better together).  Cash only.

This place is a quaint rustic joint with super friendly staff, the food is delicious, good burgers, but the Ruben is the best I've ever had! The thousand island type dressing on the Ruben adds a little kick that really makes the sandwich. Everything is homemade and tastes great, including the macaroni and potato salads. They also serve wine and cold beer.

Loved this place.  The service was excellent.  The waitress was very friendly, very attentive, and everything came out really quick   The burger was the best I've had in ages.  The beer was super cheap and came ice cold in a chilled mug.  I believe they brew their own pale ale, which was excellent.  The potato salad, while a bit on the small side in terms of portions, was outstanding. My kids loved their grilled cheese kids meals too.

It's a bit of a dive but has a kinda cool charm to it. The patio was really nice on a sunny day and the view was great.  They only take cash but they're very reasonably priced. We'll be back very soon.

Great place to eat. Good burgers, Great ruben sandwich, excellent potato salad,  & Pale Ale!  It's cash only so carry cash. One of the best no frill picnic bench eatery's great local folks. I'll be back of course.

Extremely friendly service here. Even though we were just spending a couple of days in Big Bear, we were treated like long-time regulars.

I sat on the patio and enjoyed the B.J.'s Pale Ale and the chili size, both of which were good. Actually, the chili in the chili size was freaking delicious, but the meat patty was a little chewy.

The bathroom was very tiny, not all that tidy, and had no lock on the door.

Next time I go, I'll get a big bowl of the chili, and hold my pee 'til the next place.

My husband and I went up the mountain last weekend just to get away and decided to try out the food here.  We had heard a lot of good things about the place.  It was all true...really great burgers and the service was top notch.  Will definitely eat here again.

We've been coming to BJs since the early 80s and they still have the coldest beer and best burgers on the mountain! Love the fire going in the winter and the deck in the summer.
Double BJ burger on an onion roll with pepper-jack cheese ... it just doesn't get any better -- Unless you add the chili!!

Best lunch spot on the mountain, period.

"Hole-in-the-wall" atmosphere, lots of signs and decorations hanging around - fun.  All of the tables are wooden benches where you sit yourself.  The menu is simple - basically burgers and sandwiches.  They have 4 beers on tap (bud, bud light, shock top, & a BJ pale ale).  Beer comes in a frosted mug (nice touch).  No French fries but you have the choice of potato, macaroni, coleslaw, or potato chips as a side.
I ordered a burger and a cup of chili.  The chili was pretty good, the burger isn't going to win the burger of the year award but still a solid burger.
    Beer is $3, burgers $6, chili $2-5
Service was fast and polite.  Overall a 4/5.

Chili good. Down home made fresh.  It's like dad is in the kitchen.

OK don't get scared off when you see the place. It;s a dive and a half but the food is amazing....

If your in Big Bear don't miss this place...promise you will be back from more!!!

We stopped by there because of the reviews.  First thing to know is this is a CASH only place.
My wife and I both got burgers. The were ok, but no way the best.  The patty was the typical thin,  and no seasoning, but it is put together well with the trimmings.
I did enjoy the meal, and the service was very good.  But the burger was nothing special.

This place is excellent. Its kind of hard to see on the south side of the street but the sandwiches are great and the prices are right.

The ambiance is awesome and the patio dining make it twice as nice.

If you like ice cold beer and big, juicy burgers, this is your place. Service has been excellent each of the three times I've eaten there.

The Potato Salad, although a very small serving is the best ever.

You have your choice of bread and my new favorite is a cheeseburger on a french roll.

    Try it, you'll like it.

BIG and I mean BIG Juicy Burgers and at a reasonable price. The Beer is super cold served in frosty mugs and real cheep too. This is the perfect place to unwind after hard charging on the slopes all day. I will be back for sure when I am at the cabin.

Great burgers.  Like the other yelpers have mentioned, there are no fries, only chips - but the burgers are juicy and delicious, so let it go.

Beer (domestic) by the glass... $1.85.  Are you kidding me?!

Chili - excellent, but I am pretty sure it has pork or bacon in it - smoky flavor.  Cheap, too - cup of chili for about $2.50

Service was efficient and polite. Bathrooms are clean.  Overall - an affordable, delicious burger... probably the best in the Big Bear area.  Easy on-site parking.

CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM at the market next door.

    No fries! What???

Even though it has a "B" in the window I tried it!  It's a cool little place but they don't have fries otherwise I would have giving it 4 stars!

Chuck the owner is a cranky old fart, but makes up the fabric of that place!

I've been riding my motorcycle to Big Bear for over 10 years now and for years i've been coming here.
It's always been the same owner. He hangs out at the tables watching what ever game is on. If it's just him he'll take your order and then go make it, but usually there is a waitress.
Your on your own to find a seat and no one will bring you a menu cause there at the table.
I always sit on the patio. There's a great view of the mountains and the fresh mountain air enhances the experience. Which is part of the reason I ride up there.
The Food: The burgers are 1/3 lb with a toasted sesame seed bun and your choice of cheese. Sides are either mac salad or potato salad. You can also get it with Potato chips. I don't think they have fries, at least i've never had them there. DARE I SAY the best burgers in the IE.
(I live down the street from a "Gourmet" burger joint in Redlands and sure their gourmet burgers are good however for a straight up burger BJ's cant be beat.)
I was there just yesterday. I had A Bj Burger w/american cheese, mac salad and two draft beers the bill wasn't even 10 bucks.
Cash Only no credit cards. There is an ATM at the market next door.
Seek it out! You won't be disappointed. Very biker friendly.

Every time we go to Big Bear, we always are sure to make a stop at BJ's!

One word: CHILI.  The chili is real authentic and absolutely delicious.  Burgers here are great too... but the chili is just ridiculously good.

I love how homey this place feels.  The cook will just be hanging out at the tables, and when it's time to cook your food... he goes to the kitchen and makes it fresh for you.  Very friendly and laidback.

Just the right spot to eat at after a long day of snowboarding.  When I went here there was only one older gentlemen working.  He took our order then went in the back and cooked it himself.  DELICIOUS.  The beer is ridiculously cheep (under $2 a mug.)

    I'll be back!
