B & L Bar

They have every Schell's available on tap, just make sure that one of the owners is your bartender.  Some of the bartenders here are clueless when it comes to beer.  Which is unfortunate because they should be New Ulm's beer ambassadors to the rest of the world.  It's sad when Minneapolis bartenders know more about Schell's than New Ulm bartenders.

Hey, look! It's The Fabulous B & L Bar!

Have YOU ever heard of New Ulm, Minnesota? Well, until my hubby went to do an internship at Schell's, I hadn't heard of it either. But the B & L Bar certainly helps put New Ulm on the map.

Now don't be afraid if you're not a local, they will treat you like one here. Want the latest Schell's small batch? They've got it in bottles. Want good ol' Grain Belt? On tap, of course! Want something fruity, nice, and easy? One of the owners will happily make you a Scooby Snack*.

The space is great--it's housed in one of the old buildings on the main "downtown" area, and it's in great shape. They have live music on the weekends--just a warning, because of the space, it's suuuuuper loud. And want to get in and get out before the youngins take over? You'll good 'til about 10:30 or 11pm. Want to paaaarrrrrrrtttaaaaaaayyyyy?!? Show up late.

I didn't get to try the other hotspot, Mowan's, while I was in town, but I'll be sure to come back to the B & L on my next Midwest adventure.

*Scooby Snack: pineapple, rum, midori, cream. So bad? Soooo gooooood.

Great bar, tons of local (Schell's) brews on tap, big open space with a couple of pool tables in the back.  Part of the 150th anniversary bar crawl for Schell's brewery today (1/1/2010).  Housed in an old brick building in the historic downtown of New Ulm, Minnesota.  Great place for drink if you're in the area, after the Schell's brewery tour.

Also, the bartenders are really friendly (maybe because I'm from out of town), and I've gotten free drink tokens the past 2 times I've been there.
