My friend and I went last night to sit on the patio and enjoy a beer. Our bill came out to $10 so we gave her each $20 for out $5 beer. My friend and I only got back $10 so the bartender pocketed $20 from our $10 sale...we didn't realize this until we left. Bad service on her part. Not sure I will return unless to sit on the patio and the female bartender not working. Too bad, it has a lot of potential.
Review Source:A great cocktail bar with low lighting and plenty of comfortable seating that made for a nice speakeasy vibe. Â The bartenders here are awesome - down-to-earth and clearly interested in putting their own creative twists on cocktails. Â My "New Old Fashioned" swapped out sugar for honey syrup and it was delicious with Templeton rye as the base. Â All of the standards for bourbon and rye can be found here along with a small selection of single malts.
Would be happy to come back and see what else these guys can come up with!
Great spot to grab a whiskey drink. They have some drinks are a fun twist on the originals. The bartenders are super nice and quick to take your order. They share a kitchen with the Attic and the restaurant upstairs, but unfortunately not many of the menu options transcend between them. The decor is a little bland, and makes you think the place is only half finished.
This place is great, but could be awesome if they just take it to the next level. One up for San Mateo.
A friend and I came through just trying new bars in the area. At first, since no one was there I was skeptical. My friend ordered a Tom Collins and I ordered a Johnnie Walker Old Fashion. I was very happy with my drink as they made it very well. I'm really tired of going to bars and getting it tasting like trash, so big props to the lady bartender. My friend said his was very good as well. This place really knows how to make good cocktails.
I've come here twice now and my only gripe about this place is that while I ordered the same drink both times, the price was different.
I came here after dinner at Kokko with friends (so stuffed). Â We wanted a chill night with good drinks and figured to try this place out. Â Inside it's spacious, and dimly lit. Â There's a chalkboard above the bar with their specialty drinks. Â I ordered the mint julep while my friends got the B's Knees, and a gin fizz (I think that's what it was). Â So..what we found out soon after our first sip is that the drinks here are strong. Â My mint julep was mostly of jack daniels...heavy with the whiskey. Â Although, I don't mind it since I drink whiskey on the rocks most the time anyways it just caught me by surprise. Â My friend's B's Knee's drink was a bit strong as well. Â BUT the one that didn't taste strong was our other friend's gin fizz. Â She was actually the one who ordered the drinks at the bar for us and was particular of what she wanted in it. Â She directed the bartender of what she wanted and got just that. Â I think her drink was the best since she pretty much dictated what she wanted. Â Also, bonus that they made it with real egg whites (another drink they had on the menu had it too). Â If I come back again to San Mateo I'll maybe ask them to make me a pisco sour. Â
This place was cute, and really nice bartenders. Â The atmosphere chill and relaxed. Â It wasn't packed at all which was surprising since it has so much potential and if I lived closer a place I'd come to chat with friends over drinks. Â Oh...another cute bonus...some of our drinks were made in mason jar's....awesome.
Friday night calls for whiskey, good friends, and remaining walking distance from Golden Boy pizza. B St Station fulfilled this need, and fulfilled it well.
Whiskey selection is fantastic- from the low brow stuff that you grab from the bottom shelf at the drug store, to the smooth, old stuff that your dad gets for his birthday. Great selection, and priced appropriately. For our first round, we had some of their specialty drinks prominently posted on the board. These took a while to make, but for a well-crafted beverage, it's totally worth the time. There are a couple of beers on tap, so if you're not a whiskey drinker, this is your option. I don't think I saw a rum or vodka in the house. Okay with me- but not for everyone else.
Friday night after 9pm, the place was slow. A handful of people came in and out- so it was quiet enough to be able to hold a conversation. There were a few flat screen TVs that we were able to watch ESPN highlights. Great tables to sit around .... though they were a bit large for a place that doesn't serve food. It made no sense to me.... but at least there was ample space for me to lean and have a few drinks to surround me.
We'll be back for sure. Def a good spot for a reunion or a big group. .... as long as members of that group likes whiskey!
Great place to hang out with friends. Simple decor, lots of seating. They serve lots of different types of whiskey.
It's right next door to the Attic (which I like as well, but it's often to crowded and noisy). This place is a better destination for a quality hangout and conversation.
A friend of mine threw his "40love" bash at this spot. I asked about the feel of the club and was told that it's really plush. So I'm thinking it must be similar to Twenty Five Lusk in SF? Not even close. Â It's not a dive bar but it certainly isn't on the upscale.
This bar/club is located right across the movie theatre. Â Parking isn't an issue since there is a parking garage close by. It's a fairly good size, open space that has a couch section, tables/seat section, dance floor, and DJ spot. Â The bar seemed small in my opinion. Â And as for their drinks, the one thing that makes them stand out is that they offer watermelon wheat beer. Unfortunately, they ran out that night of the party which I thought was pretty lame. You knew this party was happening months in advance and had a guest list of over 100 people. You would think they'd order enough.
In any case, because this was a closed event, the place was packed with just friends and family. Â And for that, everyone had a pretty good time. Â
Would I come here again just a hang out? Â Probably not but it was a nice visit.
This place has tremendous potential to be one of the most popular bars in downtown San Mateo. Â Huge open space, long bar, craft cocktails, and a casual environment. Â However on my one trip there, all of our drinks were pretty nasty. Â I had some cocktail w/ tanqueray and although it was my first time trying it, it was really difficult to stomach. Â Also, some friends got the watermelon beer which they were excited about having had it in the past but apparently, they preferred the bottled version as opposed to the one they had on tap that night. Â Regardless, I will be back to check out some of their other drinks. Â Hopefully we just missed on what we ordered.
Review Source:This is one of my new favorite bars in San Mateo. Â THEY HAVE THE UK beer CRABBIES everyone! I probably shouldn't have shared that because now you will all go and take them from me. Â They share join ownership with Under Attic I believe and I"ve seen the bartender from Under Attic walk over a few times. Â It is a dim lighting type of place, but it can get loud in there. Â I've already seen it been rented out for a private party. Â They serve the crabbies beer in a mason jar and you can put a shot of jameson in there for a nice kick. Â Bar hopping in san mateo is just getting better!
Review Source:WOOO! Thank God Level is gone. This place is much better. I love the whiskey saloon type of energy. I feel like I just killed a damn buffalo when I walk in here. I hope they end up converting the building into a concert venue because this place would be perfect for that. There's a lot of TVs. The ambiance definitely beats that of Moon's. I definitely wouldn't mind coming in on the weekends to have a few dozen drinks  while watching my favorite teams whoop ass on your favorite shitty teams.
Review Source:With the sudden death of Glow earlier this year, San Mateo desperately needed an upscale bar with top shelf liquor and bartenders capable of making unique mixed cocktails with them. Â
The staff are friendly and young, but enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Â Taylor , the Sunday bartender at Glow would fit right in here.
Really awesome bar! The bartenders are great and the bar itself is a really great spot to hang out with friends and family. The draft beers had me rolling all night also as I was watching the MLB playoffs on T.V.. Well to sum everything all out, If you want to go the the best bar Hangout spot in town, THIS IS IT!!!
Review Source:A super cool new spot to hang out with friends! Lots of seating, friendly folks, laid back atmosphere. And it's right near the movie theatre. Was pretty quiet when we first came in, but was almost bustling by the time we left an hour or so later.
Their menu is primarily comprised of craft cocktails -- classic drinks with a little tweak by the bartenders. They make their own syrups for use in the drinks. Â I had a mint julep and it was refreshing -- but not nearly as sweet as I've had elsewhere. That's a good thing -- you actually taste the ingredients.
They also have many TVs on which you can enjoy your game of choice. Kinda belies the speakeasy vibe, but that's life :)
The one drawback at this time: no appetizers. So come full, or stop in on your way to dinner.
This spot is rad. I've been to the same ol' places in San Mateo for awhile now, as my boyfriend lives down there, and just happened to stumble by this saloon that I hadn't seen before. According to the friendly, personable bartender, they had only been open for 2 months and didn't even have a Yelp page yet, so here it is.
When I was riding the Caltrain down, I was craving a good cocktail in a laid-back atmosphere, but wasn't feeling the Attic (next door) or that Vault place on B Street that looks like like a swanky unch unch lounge. B Street Saloon came to my rescue, and my Tuesday night was all the better.
The space has dim lighting (lit by those exposed Edison-style bulbs, to be specific), there is lots of large communal tables for groups, a nice bar area, and more than enough flat screen TVs which I imagine will be good for game nights. They're in the works of building out a stage where supposedly live music will perform - check plus. Most of all, I was able to complete my mission of finding a good cocktail, I had a New Old Fashioned. It will be interesting to see how this place transforms as more people discover it, but overall my first experience was great, so five stars it is. The bartender was really excited when I walked in and exclaimed, "Yes! Cocktails!" :) Lovely place, I'll be going back.
