This is one of my go to Sunday night restaurants! They offer a special happy hour menu all day on Sundays. This includes discounted sushi rolls, appetizers, and drinks. The sushi is always fresh and delicious, and the service is consistenly wonderful. I wouldn't reccomend going here on Sunday if you are wanting a quiet or romantic dinner as it can get really loud when it is busy.
My favorite roll is the hot popper roll, it is wraped in soy paper and filled with rice, smoked salmon, cream cheese, and a piece of jalapeño. I was affriad to try it at first thinking it would be to spicy, but it is INCREDIBLE.
The water that they serve everyone has cucumbers in it making it crisp and refreshing. If you are looking for a little something stronger, I highly reccomend the strawberry margitini.
So far, this is my favorite sushi in the Omaha area. If you go during happy hour, it's one heck of a deal. My wife and I can get stuffed for about $25.
The atmosphere is pretty nice and they are usually pretty fast, too. We've been there a lot when they're busy, but they seem to do a good job keeping up with the rush.
The Hot Popper roll is delicious!
The waitresses were a bunch of ding dongs. I walked in and stood by the "Wait to be seated sign." So I waited. 2 girls walked by me 4 separate times without saying a word. I finally had to flag one down, and she said, "Oh, have you not been helped?" No shit, Sherlock. If I had been helped, I wouldn't be standing here. Would I?!
Fortunately, the guys at the bar were nice and helpful. I had an order of salmon toro sashimi, a rainbow roll and the curry mussels. The salmon toro was amazing-- one of the best I've had. The rainbow roll was run of the mill. Fresh ingredients, but nothing different about it. The curry mussels were also bland. I won't be ordering that again.
They do have other items of the menu that I'd like to try, so I'd come back. Maybe they will redeem themselves then, but my first experience was so-so.
Baby Blue is GREAT! Â They have the best happy hour in town, and their selection of rolls (included in the HH) just keeps getting better! Â We like BB better than the other locations because of it's coziness, as well as overall friendlier staff. Â The wait staff is always great, and the bartenders are even better. Â My husband and I sit AT the bar for the best service! Â My only gripe about service is actually the hostesses, most of them appear unapproachable, immature, and overall unwelcoming. Â They tell you how long the wait is, and look at you as if they are hoping you'll leave. Â
As far as food and drinks go, our favorites are the Philly Roll, Maui Roll, and Super Asparaugus. Â Our go-to apps are the Pork Gyoza and Mango Crab Rangoon (a small portion but worth it). Â Their margaritas and beer are the best value at HH, but their martinis can't be beat! Â DELISH! Â Get there RIGHT at the start of late night happy hour for the best odds of getting a table.
I'm a fan of Baby Blue. I do not feel that it is the best sushi in town, but still decent enough.
Blue has some non traditional tastes with regards to some of their rolls. Unlike many sushi places in Omaha (who have just the standard fare of rolls), Blue will add different twists to their rolls (sweet pineapple or baking one of them as well).
Value wise, blue is about average. The roll size is pretty normal (perhaps a bit towards the smaller side). The prices are normal as well, leaning towards the higher end.
Overall, Blue is a good option for happy hour or if you are in the area. I would not call Blue my number 1 place- but it's worth a try.
As a West Coast guy, I tend to be snobbish about my sushi so I wasn't expecting much from this place as to quality. I was pleasantly surprised. The space is very trendy and night club-like with cocktail lounge lighting and interior decor. The sushi was fresh and the rolls were inventive and delicious. Definitely worth checking out.
Review Source:My fiance and I come here every month for at least one happy hour. We have never been disappointed by the rolls or appetizers. It is always fresh and usually very quick. There were a couple times that service was not that great, but that is usually because the bar is backed up. We have also brought friends here and they accepted reservations for larger parties.
Food - 10
Service- 6
Atmosphere - 10
Beer/Wine - 10 (love the sake bombs)
Overall Score - 9/1
My husband and I were wanting to try a new place near our home and ended up at baby blue. Â I had never been to any of the blue sushi's before, but they have a great happy hour special. Â (Plus happy hour all day Sunday!!) Pretty much $4.50 for 20 or so roll options. Â Plus cheap drinking. Â A lot of the reviews on here have spoke about the service...but our waiter was phenomenal...the hostess was another story. Â She just couldn't have cared less about seating us or even being friendly. Â I ordered the house salad- by far the best salad I've ever gotten at a sushi/Japanese restaurant and the dressing - soy wasabi delicious! Â We also ordered the calamari which came with some tempura veggies and the potstickers which came on some fried onions ??? Not quite sure, but it was delicious and a great presentation. Â W e also got some specialty rolls - Hawaiian was definitely my favorite. The spicy tuna I will pry skip next time. Â The overall ambiance reminded me of a bar in Scottsdale - very trendy. Â We will definitely be back!
Review Source:It always seems to be hit or miss with this place. On our most recent visit we did take out sushi and I didn't feel as if the Cali rolls we ordered tasted as good as I was expecting.
(ok before you judge, I had to get Cali rolls because I'm pregnant otherwise I'd be all over the raw stuff)
I ate it because I was hungry and NOT because it was amazing.
My visit prior to this was during lunch for a business meeting and the rolls were PHENOMENAL! Please get better at consistently delivering high quality sushi so I don't have to drive all the way to Hiro.
Went here, courtesy of a "Lets make it up to you!" card, due to bad experience at the Downtown Blue. Â Lets say this was a step up in what I was feeling was lacking in the other location. Â The service given to us was what the standard should be at every location. Â Hell, even my water glass was empty for a only a few minutes I'd get a quick refill and an apology for letting it go empty...good move. Â
So we used our card to try a few things we hadn't tried before.  We opened our night with some shishito(sp) peppers and HOLY GOD, new favorite opener!  Not really spicy to the taste but have a lil kick coupled with a very savory juice they come stewed in.  I danced a lil happy food jig as my Special Lady Friend began her menu hunt.  As usual the rolls we recieved were great and the service finally matched the quality of food.  They only real wait we had was just a lil bit for our check but we were too busy staring at the puffer fish in the giant tank, I named him Kevin, that we really did care much.  I may make this my Blue of choice if following visits are up to the standard set this night.  Eat up Minions!!
Great happy hour specials on sushi. Â Their drink specials are decent, but only bud light draws is sorta weak in my opinion. Â
Happy hours: M-Sat: 4-6:30pm, Sunday: noon-8pm
Reverse happy hour: Fri-Sat: 10:30pm-12am
Please note that you have to be in the bar area for happy hour but the restaurant area for reverse happy hour.
Very cool that they have a large gluten free menu as well.
The Happy Hour at this place is legit. Â Good selection of rolls for around $4-$5 (most rolls are 8-pieces). Â Pints of Bud Light draft for $2. Â Wife and I went there last Tuesday 5/31 about 45 min before HH was ending. Â Place was busy...but immediate seating at Sushi Bar (hate sitting where I have to turn sideways to chat). Â To my surprise the SF Giants game was on (which we could see through the bottles of infused Sake on the shelves) SCORE!!
Our waiter (damn..can't remember his name) was really nice and we were able to order and get a second round within the 40 minutes.
A++ customer service and A+ Sushi
Every time I visit Omaha I have to come to Baby Blue. It's one of my top 5 favorite sushi places "ever", and I live in L.A. where there are tons of great sushi spots. Who knew one of my favorites would be in Omaha. I always get the River Rock Beef, it's mandatory! Yesterday I followed it up with the shishito peppers, mussels and a few rolls. I tried The Beach and The Spanish Fly. I have tried Blue in Omaha but it just wasn't as tasty as Baby Blue and the service wasn't as great. Anyone who says this place isn't amazing needs to get their taste buds checked ASAP! Also they have a cool happy hour.
Review Source:I practically live at Blue Sushi. For their rolls and specialties such as the Blue Bomb (formally named Dragon Ballz) - which is a definate favorite - they are the best in town!  Wait service at the 169th location is sub-par compared to the other two locations, but  the food is amazing!
Review Source:I have always been a fan of Blue sushi since the orginal opened. I like that they have a different, modern spin on sushi, plus the atmosphere is fun. We usually head to Baby Blue for happy hour and I hate to say it be I always order the same things: spicy edamame, cruchy blue roll, lettuce wraps and spicy tuna roll. All in all I love these dishes.
The reason for the 4 star rating vs. 5 well... while the food is good the service is always a little off... slow, rude, no help at all. I been here many many times but there has never been a time where the service is fantastic. Also, I understand the Blue sushi is not your typical sushi but calling it the best sushi in town is just not right to me, especially since it's so very Americanized it's not funny.
Decent food and drinks. HORRIBLE service.
I orded the cherry limeade martini, which was okay, but not very well mixed. The chicken satay was DRY. Ask for extra dipping sauce if you get this dish!
Our waiter obviously had better things to do with his time than help us. He didn't ask if we wanted additional drinks, and their inability to split checks is ridiculous. Seriously, we had to calculate our totals and tax, and then tell him how much to charge on each card. How hard is a separate check?? It made me not want to come back.
Overall, this place is ok . If you're looking for a stylish, "cool" sushi and sake bar and don't care about being ignored by the staff, this is the place for you.
I write this review as I lick the remnants of some truly tasty edamame hummus from my fingers, and I am saddened.
My first visit to Baby Blue was a few weeks ago. My companions and I were served by the rudest waitress I have ever encountered. After we'd paid our check so it would be understood that we weren't looking to have our meal comped, we stopped the manager to give some feedback. We cited examples of a few of the more glaring moments of rudeness. He gave us a perfunctory apology and told us that the waitress was "having a bad night" and that she "was upset about something." I was dumbfounded that he thought this answer was acceptable, but I politely extricated myself and resolved that I would vote with my wallet and not come back.
Well, the edamame hummus called to me. It really is a hauntingly delicious appetizer. I decided today that I would call in a to-go order for that one item, and give the place another shot. When I picked up the order, I was handed a ticket showing that I owed $8.56. I paid with a $10 bill. The hostess returned with $1 and my receipt showing that my change was $1.44. I looked at the dollar in my hand and the absence of 44 cents quizzically, and the hostess said, "Oh, we round up here."
We do? I'm penalized for paying in cash? That just doesn't seem right.
The thing is, I'm a tipper. I tip even on pick-up of to-go orders... I probably would have given her the rest of the $10 as a tip... but that would be MY decision. The receipt says I get $1.44. So, why am I only holding $1.00?
I hate being one of those people who argues that it's "the principle of the thing," over a lousy 44 cents... but this is now twice that I have been treated as if I should be grateful that they deigned to serve me. I'm done with Baby Blue, and very likely the other Blue locations as well. It didn't have to be this way.
I'm gonna be honest--not really blown away by the sushi here. Thought it was pretty poor quality, actually. A friend and I went during Happy Hour, so technically we were in Sake Bombers, but same difference.
For the two of us, off the HH menu we ordered crab cakes, chicken lettuce wraps, and for sushi we had crunchy blue and spicy tuna. First off, the appetizers were quite tasty. The presentation was very impressive and trendy. There were 3 crab cakes served with a cabbage mixture that had a bit of sriracha spice to them and were exactly what I was craving. The lettuce wraps could honestly be a pretty healthy meal for one person to eat themselves if they wanted. They were "make it yourself" style, and came with a nice variety of veggies and sauces.
Now let's move on to the important part: the sushi. Oh, Blue, you totally let me down. Our spicy tuna roll was probably the lowest quality of sushi I have ever tasted. We even dissected a piece to examine the fish..not good. The crunchy blue was the better of the two, but simply stuffed to the brim with cream cheese and crab, rolled in perhaps a coconut exterior? Not something I would return for.
We split the chocolate spring roll for dessert, which is basically fried chocolate phylo dough and ice cream with raspberry sauce. The silly thing was $8, and not that fantastic.
Yes, this place is ever-popular, yes, it's the trendy and hip place be. However, if I'm going to treat myself to sushi, I expect the food we order to be half-way decent, ya know? For HH, I would definitely suggest the appetizers, but I don't think I could validate paying full price for mediocre sushi rolls again.
Final note: Happy Hour runs 4-6:30pm Monday through Saturday, then 12-8pm Sunday if I remember correctly.
Baby Blue, which is the spinoff of Blue - the sushi place on 144th and Maple, is probably the best place in town for atmosphere and sushi. Â
That said, the atmosphere is that of a night club rather than a restaurant and definitely a place to see and be seen so most people feel compelled to dress up accordingly.
On to the food. Â Just like Blue, Baby Blue has great sushi and great starters/appetizers. Â From what I can tell it has almost the same menu as the other Blue restaurants. Â There are a couple of appetizers that you have to try - the Summer Seared Ahi Tuna Spring Rolls and the Firecracker Shrimp. Â Both a excellent and an interesting twist on Spring Rolls and Tempura.
Haven't tried a lot of their larger meals - go straight to the sushi menu. Â Obviously a lot of traditional rolls and sushi. Â My person favorites - Toro if it is season, a fatty tuna that almost melts in your mouth - Spider Roll, soft shell crab in a roll, my goal is to always get the end down in one bite! - Spicy Tuna roll, fresh tuna mixed with Wasabi to give it more of a kick.
Like most good Sushi restaurants, it is a bit pricey and if you go when you are really hungry - check your credit limit before you order. Â Ordering their specialty drinks, combined with appetizers and sushi will set you back a bit.
I will say that when they get really busy their service tends to suffer a bit and they will sometimes mess up orders. Â Some of their wait staff seem more suited to modeling than pronouncing Japanese food names.
I've been to Blue about a dozen times and on Fridays it is known that you have to get a reservation to get in at all.... I had heard that Blue opened Baby Blue which is right across from one of their other restaurants Roja. Â It was Friday @ 7:30 and I figured we'd give it a go and see what the wait time is. Â Surprisingly, we got right in. Â They have quite a bit of outdoor seating and it was a perfect night for it. Â
The menu is a different from the normal Blue menu.  I didn't notice the Wasabi Seared Ahi  (I might have missed it) that I normally get so we decided on just getting a bunch of rolls. Â
I'm glad we did. Â We had Hotel Cali, Maui, TNT and the standard Crunchy Blue rolls. Â We had never had the Hotel Cali and Maui rolls before and I'm glad we ordered them. Â They were the best rolls I have ever had. Â I think the crunchy blue's were premade because they didn't taste as good as normal. Â But everything else was just as good and a lot less crowded than the normal Blue scene. Â
I was really impressed with the service and the food. Â The outdoor seating is a nice touch since it is very quiet and relaxing. Â The indoor section is a tad smaller than the main Blue restaurant but with the outdoor seating I think it is a bit bigger. Â
Overall I liked it a little more than Blue. Â It was less crowded and not as noisy since we were in the outdoor area. Â
The rolls average between $6-10 for 6-8 rolls and for two, you want to order 4-6 orders. Â It depends on how hungry you are and what type of rolls you get. Â
They have entrees as well that were around $10-20 a piece if I recall right but we didn't get any that night so I cannot be sure.
As trendy and as pretentious as it is.... Blue still has the best rolls in town.
