First off, I love the name. We were invited by the new owner Brian, who is friendly and attentive, for an opening party after our show at Proctors Theatre. The bartender and the owner provided great service for our group. Great drinks and tasty food. In addition, they played the right music, since we are a young cast. Fun atmosphere.
Review Source:I was in there last night for trivia. Â Service was okay, and I got the Clam Chowder which was reheated probably from 5 days ago. Â I was actually having a nice experience when from out of the nowhere the (new) Owner, Casey, started swearing me out. Â It was late into the night - probably 2AM. Â Everyone was having a great time. I don't know if he didn't like the way I looked, thought I was someone else, but I did absolutely nothing to prompt the behavior. Â And he wouldn't stop screaming at me as I walked away from him. Â I didn't even respond I just stared straight ahead to finish my drink and stared straight ahead at the bar.
Trust me I have no personal vendetta, I just wanted to warn people. Â It was a bit scary for a minute there as I had to walk past this guy giving me menacing looks to get out the door when he kicked me out.
Stay far away from this place. Â There are SO many good places in Schenectady. Â Do not give these people your business.
Great staff, decent beer, average food.
I've been to the Backstage Pub a few times, which seems to get its name because of its location somewhat behind the prestigious Proctor's Theatre. Â A bit off the beaten path, as its on a side street across from the OTB instead of on State Street, the Backstage creates a cozy atmosphere with a bar and dining area on the first floor, and a private room for parties and somesuch on the second floor. Â They also will show a fair selection of football games over the weekends as well, including the Red Zone Channel.
The beer selection is decent, they have some regular brews on tap, as well as some rotating seasonal beers. Â The food, at least as I found, is average. Â They serve the standard pub fare and appetizers. Â I've had an appetizer and sub sampler, which was good, and the wings were good too. Â I wasn't a big fan of the Philly cheese steak I ordered once, but that won't deter me from ordering other food from the Backstage. Â See you there!
