Bakehouse

Um, yeah.... Saw this place listed in Austin Monthly for their great eggs benedict so we thought we'd check it out. Ick. The blueberry muffin that came with the dish tasted off. It had a chemical taste or something. The potatoes were also bland and odd-tasting. The eggs benedict were passable, but not very good. I ate enough to take the edge off my hunger but left most of my meal on the plate. I love finding hidden neighborhood gems and was hoping the Bakehouse would be a great new discovery, but I was sadly disappointed. I will not be going back.

Not good at all.  I really wanted to like this place as it's not too far away from where I work.  As soon as I walked in, I felt like I stepped back in time to the 1980s or on to the set of that Chef Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares TV show.  Either way, the server was nice, but the food was awful.  I ordered the Eggs Benedict--and it was by far one of the worst Benedicts that I've ever had.  The canadian bacon on it reminded me of mystery meat from when I was a wee young one at elementary school.  It was just awful.  On the plus side, the prices aren't bad.

The complimentary bread is to die for, the house salad's were delicious, and we ordered the Wellington and Chicken fried steak....both of which were superb. It wasn't crowded and the service was fast. I will be back to try the German cuisine.
