My girlfriend and I come here multiple times a month. We love it here. I even performed here on one of their open mic nights(which are every Wednesday).
Everything is good here. From the seasonal menu to the beer menu. Favorite brew is Firestone double jack.
Just an FYI though, if you use the check in to get free Irish chips don't expect the blue cheese dip and same size.
i went there last night before a play. the service was horrible! couldnt get greeted. i couldnt get a drink. we ordered the fish and chips. it was all batter with a hard small piece of fish inside. we tried to get a refill on drinks, could not get server.my friend had corn beef and cabbage. there was no cabbage, had to send back for this. the corn beef was bad . the bill was $75. for horrible food and service. the server never asked how it was! we will never go back.
Review Source:I was here at the grand opening and have also frequented this place many, many times since then. This, however is my first and overall review.
Food: 4 stars... they actually have really good food here. I have tried their salads, burgers, wings, appetizers, etc! I've never really had a bad experience with  their food. To be honest, I've noticed the portions decreasing a little and the price point remaining the same. This is fine if the quality of the food increases, but, I have seen that flip-flop more recently.
Beer: 5 stars... the beer selection here is pretty amazing. They always seem to have something new to try and the cost for beer is pretty standard across the board. If you haven't tried it yet, get the Milk Stout Nitro from Left Handed Brewing Co. WOW! It's like the chocolate milk of beers:) Hats off to Bally for always incorporating new and exciting beer selections.
Bar Staff: 5 Stars... AMAZING bar staff... even when things are crazy, they find a way to interact and make the expereince fun. They never short pour the drinks or trade out shelf liqour i.e. you pay for one type of gin, they pour another. They take the time to make sure things are correct and that you are happy with the food and drink you order.
It really comes across like they are happy you are there. I haven't received the same treatment at other nearby bars. There is only one exception to this rule... if someone from the waitstaff jumps behind the bar! Which brings me to my next area of rating:
Service Staff: 3 Stars... This is what dissapoints me most about Ballydoyle. Service unfortunately is either hit or miss. Whether or night is busy or slow... it doesn't matter. Most recently, yesterday to be exact, we had a server that came off prickly and it felt like she really didn't want to be there... but had to be. That sucks when you are on the receiving end of it. ATTENTION BALLY: Servers are the face of your company... when they are passionate about the experience, when they can pair beer wih food, and when they show gratitude that you are there... you will bring in more money. Please, fix this.
General Atmosphere: 4 stars... You can escape in this place. It's fun and warm, and it's neat to look at all the design and decorations... most of which is from Ireland. Its great to bring friends and family too. If you haev younger ones I would bring them in the day time for lunch or early dinner. It has done a graet deal to enhance downtown aurora and I am glad it's here.
Overall Rating: 4 stars... I So want to give this place 5 stars but there is always something that is holding me back from doing it. Hopefully, they can make improvements with Service Staff and food quality. I would love to give an updated review reflecting that.
Nice place in downtown Aurora. Â Older crowd so not the place to go if you want to meet girls. Â Food is typical bar food but expensive. Â Beer selection is great but again it comes at a price. Â Atmosphere is good and laid back but like I said its more of an older crowd. Â Service was fine but could be better based on prices. Â I would go back if in area since not many other options.
Review Source:would have given it a better rating but the server guy (not lady)was more attentive to his, I don't even know what, but it wasn't us. Â had the fish and chips. Â meh. Â more greaase than anything. Â fish was OK but scooping up tha extra grease with each bite made me a little afraid of having a chest grabber right there in the dining room. Â my boy got the brat special. Â it had blue cheese on it so I stayed away. Â his was more spice and not enough flavor. Â he wouldn't repeat. Â i'll be back to sample some of th other offerings and hopefully sit in a section with a better server and view! Â i'm struggling with 2 or 3 stars. Â guess I'll be giving and rate a 3.
Review Source:Big Fan of Ballydoyle! Â My (now) husband and I used to go every Thursday night when we started dating. Â $2 drafts and karaoke was definitely the way to celebrate the "unofficial start to the weekend!" Â They have since gotten rid of Thursday night karaoke, which completely bummed me out (although my wallet suggests otherwise).
I have been here on NUMEROUS occasions. Â It's a favorite hangout place for me and the co-workers, and generally, a fun atmosphere. Â If you go, request to sit in Bea's section---best server in the place :)
We have eaten here many times now.
Service
Can be spotty depending on how busy they are. Also they seem to have a higher than average turnover in wait staff.
Food
If it comes out hot, its good. The corned beef sandwiches and Reubens are really good. Their chips appititzer is really good. Shepards pie - ok. Cod - ok. Fries - good.
Drinks
They always pour a perfect pint of Guiness at the right tempurature. The other selections of beer are good. I have never had spirits such as, bourbon, scotch, Â wine or a mixed drink their so i can't comment on that.
Decore
Is great rustic in an irish way with alot of the furniture coming from Ireland. You will see old chandilers (sp?) church pews, etc. Its a fun eclictic atmosphere.
Patio
Sat outsside for the first time the other Day June 8th for dinner with the family. I had heard it can get buggy out there due to the river next to it. It was clean, large and very comfortable. We never considered Ballydoyle for outdoor seating in the past but now we will.
I have been here a bunch of times since they opened. It tends to be really loud, which is not my scene. However, the back patio on a nice night is wonderful.
The prices are a bit steep and the food is standard bar fare. The only thing of note is the fried pickle.
It's an okay bar in downtown Aurora.
I've grown to be highly disappointed in Ballydoyle over the years... The Aurora location is no exception. Â My problem is usually with the tab and the food. Â The food is just ok. Â It has gone downhill significantly over the years. Â The prices went up and the quality went way down! Â I'd really rather spend my money somewhere else for better quality food. Â You're entire party can just order sandwiches and you'll be amazed at how much you'll be paying! Â The food tends to be on the greasy / bland side as well. Â There are definitely other places to go if you're looking for quality Irish food at a reasonable price!
There is always a mass of people there in the evenings... A rush coming in from the Casino more than likely. Â If you want a seat on St. Patrick's Day, you best get there early... I mean EARLY! Â And plan to stalk people for a seat. Â They have a cover charge starting early in the day (as they do for some bands in the evenings throughout the year). Â Though this may be the only time of the year that you'll get to see some really good Celtic bands!
Plato proposed an idea that in the metaphysical world, there would be a chair that is the most perfect chair-esque chair out there. No chair that exists on Earth could be more chair-y than this Metaphysical Chair, though we would strive to achieve that.
This bar is the most perfect Metaphysical college-bar out there. When, in my mind, I picture a college bar, every detail in this bar is beamed from the metaphysical realm to the Irish Pub before my face.
Amazing drink deals on Jameson and beer.
College aged crowd.
The band is a Talking Heads cover band (AMAZING).
The chandeliers that hang and both classy and gaudy.
The drunken fellow in front of the stage is out of a movie.
The sour realization hits me that I have never been the biggest fan of bars like these but the Jameson, good company and Talking Heads cover band make it a great night.
So thank you, Metaphysical most-perfect-college-bar-esque-bar out there.
Went to the Ballydoyle for a cure to the late night munchies with friends. Sense we just went for a snack we decided to just get a couple of Appetizers to share. We ordered the Irish chips with blue cheese sauce and the Potato skins. The irish chips here are amazing. It was great to see the blew cheese sauce was loaded with actual blue cheese and the chips here are home made. The Potato skins here were also tasty but OMG what a rip off. They cost $8 and they only gave us 5 small skins. Seriously I felt like walking to the kitchen and asking were the rest of our skins were. They came on this giant dish and they were sooo small. The atmosphere here is great. Really what more can you ask for then a irish bar with a view of people getting arrested outside (seriously the Aurora PD stopped in that night). All in all this place could be a 4 star restaurant if they just had bigger portions.
Review Source:Great bar with awesome food. I used to come here often for open mic night but I got a little too crowded despite the massive size of this place. The prices are decent and they have a $.25 wing night. The atmosphere is very mixed. You will find every type of person in here, even cops. I'm not gonna lie, it's a little awk running into an officer who knows you from back in your hooligan days, while drunk. That being said, this is a great place to come and hang and have a few drinks with your friends.
Review Source:I have to say that I do enjoy Ballydoyle, even though it does have its downfalls. They do have live music on weekends, and even though it's not ALWAYS my taste, I have to give them credit for always having a diverse group of bands playing.
This place is huge, and you can definitely get lost in here while looking for the restrooms, or while trying to find your way back to your table from the restrooms. I consider this to be a good thing, since all the patrons aren't shoved in the same room like sardines. The back patio overlooking the river is wonderful in the summer. I have probably been here on every night of the week, and the crowd is always a nice mix of all ages. I have never felt too old or too young being here.
The food here is good for the most part, however, Â the entrees that I have ordered have been hit or miss. The same dish can be spectacular one night, and then leaves something to be desired the next. Being an Irish restaurant/bar, the food is very heavy and filling, and the servings are large. As I am not a huge fan of heavy foods, my favorites here are off the appetizer/late night menu, since I'm normally here to drink first and foremost. The Spinach Artichoke Dip is the best that I have had in a long time, the Irish Chips with the blue cheese dip are phenomenal, and the Corned Beef Bites tend to melt in my mouth.
One complaint I do have is about the service. I have never had above average service here. It's normally average, but more times than I care to remember, it's been sub-par. If I have to get up and go to the bar to get another Guinness (during dinner time) because our server has not made it back to check on us in a while, that's not a good sign. Â
Of course, I will be returning to Ballydoyle for the atmosphere, food, and beer.
Noticing Ballydoyle opened early (10:00 AM) on Sunday morning, we decided to check them out for the first time after church. Â We arrived around 11:30 and we were just about the only customers in the place. Â No problem getting a table as we were invited to sit where we wished.
We ordered our drinks and an appetizer, which came reasonably quick and we were given ample time to review their extensive lunch menu. Â Our server however, seemed a bit cool and indifferent and it took quite a while for him to return to take our lunch orders.
There were four of us in our party and we each ordered something different, giving us a good sampling of the variety that does exist on the menu.
We started off with an order of the Fried Pickles ($5.95). Â They were excellent but the appetizer only came with 5 pickles so you'll likely need more than one order if there is more than two of you dining.
As for the entrees, one of us ordered the "Lunch Box", ($12.95) which was a lightly beer battered haddock fried to a golden brown and served with fries and a side of peas and coleslaw. Â She proclaimed it "excellent" and reminded her of her New England home where haddock is very popular. Â
Another of us ordered the Chicken Pot Pie $13.95) and her eyes were bigger than her stomach and was unable to finish the huge portion that was filled with carrots, potatoes, peas and chunks of tender chicken topped with a delicious puff pastry. Â She pronounced it "very good".
The third member of our party ordered the Patty Melt ($9.95), which is served with the traditional marble rye bread, with American cheese and grilled onions and comes with fries. Â It was deemed "tasty and good".
I ordered the Reuben Sandwich that came with a generous portion of their slow braised corned beef, served with 1000 island, swiss cheese, and sauerkraut. Â It was tasty but I also noted the corned beef seemed a bit on the dry side, even with the dressing.
I chose Ballydoyle's "Irish Chips" as a substitute for fries ($1.50 per sub) and an order of warm bleu cheese dipping sauce ($2.00). Â Both the chips and sauce were quite tasty.
All in all, I give Ballydoyle's a 3 star rating but it has tons of potential. Â It's right on the river bank across the street from the Hollywood Casino in the heart of downtown Aurora. Â It has an outdoor patio which would be very nice on a warm day and the interior is decorated very tastefully with an authentic Irish Pub feel to it.
As for the cons.
Cool, aloof service. Â Considering the help outnumbered the customers 5-1 when we were there, we should have been treated like kings and queens. Â We weren't.
Price. Â $78 including tip seems a bit pricey for lunch, considering half our party ordered sandwiches. Â Their $1.50 substitution charge felt more like a gouge considering I gave up fries for chips and the $2 for a cup of bleu cheese sauce also seemed excessive. Â
I'll certainly be back (planning an event this Friday as a matter of fact) but there were a few things that left me wanting. Â Fix those things and I could definitely see 4 stars in this hot spot's future.
Nice selection of local microbrews on tap. Okay menu, great room to see a band. Place looks a lot older than it is, getting a little beat around the edges, actually. But fun place to go in downtown Aurora.
TIP: if you've got a Hollywood Players club card, park in the Casino parking garage and save a couple bucks!
First off let me just say how ridiculously huge this place is. Â It goes on pretty much forever which is great if you have a large group as we did. Â The decor is what you'd expect from an Irish pub with lots of wood, most of which seemed salvaged. Â The bathrooms were especially neat with the stalls constructed from old doors and the bottle bottom wall art. Â That last part will make no sense unless you see it.
Sadly the food wasn't as stellar as the decor and the service was a bit slow too. Â Maybe it was the fact that we had a party of 12 though the restaurant was hardly packed. Â That still wouldn't explain the lack of flavor of my fish n chips. Â
That said, I'm an Irish lass so if I were in the area I'd give it another go. Â The beer list is stellar, particularly the draught mixes so if all else fails a liquid meal it shall be!
We've been here twice now and both times we've had really good meals but one time we had great service and the second time just blah service.
We are early diners because of our little 3 year old but the food has been really really good.
It is your typical "made for USA" Irish pub and I believe their first location is in Downers Grove. Â That really doesn't matter to me as they have good beer selections and a pretty good sized menu.
We've tried everything from the burgers to the club sandwich as well as the fish and chips and they've all been of high quality and very tasty. Â We haven't tried the boxty yet though. (have at other places so it'll be good to compare the next time we go)
Also, the meals for kids are decent as well. Â Parking can be a bit tough given the area and I've seen that they've been featured on several of the Groupon and groupon-type sites. Â I would love to come back without our wee one to see some live music or for a pub trivia night.
Went to grab some lunch on a quiet & cold Saturday afternoon. Place was scattered w/ few tables occupied & some single patrons at the bar.
I was surprised to hear a fussy, whining child at one table. Ordered something like "corned beef bites". It was meat & cream cheese battered and then deep fried-brillant! Also had the Harp battered fish & chips-another excellent choice. They had beer bread on the specials menu not expecting I would be taking home a huge, full loaf of bread. Fed the family for a week! Great, fun addition to the downtown area. Talented local bands play here I think most w/ends. Easy parking around the corner in the Casino lot. Can't wait to return & try the "boxty".
Ballydoyle is basically your typical, run-of-the-mill Irish pub, except for one thing:
Boxty.
What is a boxty, you ask? Â It's an Irish potato pancake, and Wikipedia tells me that translates to "poor house bread" in Irish. Â Well, ship me off to the poor house, 'cause I want to eat boxty every day! Â Ballydoyle offers several different kinds, filled with chicken, steak, or corned beef, and I decided to go with chicken. Â It was delicious: a potato pancake wrapped around chicken, spinach, peas, and mushrooms in a white wine cream sauce, topped with sour cream and served with mashed potatoes on the side. Â Holy carbs, Batman! Â The only problem was that filling was more "warm" than "piping hot" - it probably could have used a few seconds in the microwave or something. Â But I was so hungry that I didn't feel like sending it back, so I ate it. Â The leftovers tasted even better heated to the appropriate temperature the next day.
My boyfriend ordered the shepherd's pie, which was fine, but didn't blow him away. Â Like my entree, it was definitely very rich. Â Dieters beware.
They have a nice selection of Irish whiskeys, scotches, and beers, though as Erin S. mentioned, you won't find too many craft beers. Â I'm not a beer connoisseur, so I'm okay with that. Â Also, they have Magners on tap. Â Score! Â And if you're tired of the same old Black and Tan, they have some fun "beer cocktails" for you. Â I tried a "Red Witch," which was Harp, cider, and black currant juice. Â Sweet and sassy (like me, obvs). Â For dessert, I tried a "Nutty Irishman," one of their coffee drinks, spiked with Frangelico and Bailey's and topped with whipped cream. Â Yum!
I'm teetering between three and four stars here...I think I have to go with three since the prices are not at all cheap. Â Nevertheless, we'll be back! Â That boxty is calling me.
I go there every once in a while and last night was the first Thursday I've ever been to Ballydoyle's. Â Not as crowded as the weekend but still pretty full, just about every table filled up.
Their beer selection is increasing and they even had a couple tasty IPA's, yummy! Â I guess Monday and Thursday is 25 cent wing night. Â $3 for a dozen wings (had the buffalo flavor, very good), can't beat that!
Usually they have some kind of music playing, and last night was no exception. Â Pretty good sounding acoustic band (two guitarists, keyboardist, and drummer) not sure what their name was but they kept the crowd happy with some even dancing even though there was little room to dance because of the set up that night. Â They played a little bit of everything from Santana to bluegrass/country to REM.
Good time for me and 3 friends, one them being their bday. Â Would recommend checking out their website to see what bands or stand up comedian acts are coming. Â But stopping by whenever, you can't go wrong either. Â Aurora needs more cool bars like this!
Who doesn't love Irish/American Classics like corned beef, cabbage, and BUFFALO WINGS? Â I'm not sure who doesn't, but I know who does, ME, ME, ME! Â Normally when I dine at Ballydoyle's it's during a short lunch break, but recently I had the opportunity to have dinner; I stayed for 3 hours. Â
I love this place and now Dinner is my new favorite time to dine, the atmosphere was so laid back, unpretentious and our waitress was great! Â Oh and not to mention, I went on a Monday Night! Â What does MONDAY NIGHT MEAN? Â .25 Cent wings in 6 different flavors, they are HUGE, non-breaded, and fried to perfection!
Dinner for 3 of us, including martini's, and dessert was 29 dollars, can you believe it? Â
If you are looking for a fun family dinner out, a quick bite with friends, or some great drinks, check out Ballydoyle's. Â I would have given them 5 stars but recently I found out that they are a chain.
This place is Irish Disneyland. Â Big cliche Irish facades garnish this giant warehouse dedicated to drinking. Â The inside is just as awesome and Disney-like as the outside. Â The first room houses a large stage, bar and plenty of seating. Â Past that room is a series of smaller rooms each with its own theme. Â
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Â There is a decent selection of beer on tap and a good selection of liquor with a healthy nod toward the Irish fare. Â
I am looking forward to drinking here again with some friends and watching the Sharks beat the Blackhawks on the TV in one of the smaller rooms.
I have been to this place on five separate occasions, all at varying times from afternoon to late night, and various levels of alcohol intake. Â
Each time, I have found the staff rude, the food under or over cooked and often greasy, and the clientele stuffy. Â
My least favorite experience had to be the night that a group of friends went in after parent teacher conferences (about 18 people, more or less), and when we asked if there was room elsewhere (all tables were full) the waitress was rude and told us there was no room for us. Â
Yes, I know your first comment would be "call ahead," however we did not know so many people would show, and the night we chose was a typically slow night. Â Otherwise, we would have. Â On the other hand, do you want the business of a dozen and a half teachers who need respite from the job, or no? Â
Either way, we were treated poorly, and it will never again be a meeting place for any group I go out with. Â
The bartender that evening was good, he actually treated us like customers instead of a nuisance like the initial waitress.
This place is the jewel of downtown Aurora! It takes up almost a whole block and revitalizes the look of the area. Downtown Aurora really should be full of places like this but somehow it's never happened.
Most of the food is very good, including the corned beef balls and Irish chips. They have 10 cent wings on Mondays that are also very good.
I hope this place sticks around. Seems like most of the good places always move out.
After going to the Ballydoyle in Glen Ellyn a couple of times, I was excited when I first heard that they were opening one in Aurora too. Â Not only is it, of course, closer to me, but it's nice to have something new and vibrant in the formerly waning downtown Aurora area. Â I also think this Ballydoyle is bigger and cleaner than the one in Downer's Grove. Â It is set up better, has a bigger stage for bands, a nicer outdoor area, etc.
The food is really, really good. Â I've had a lot of different things on the menu, and all of them have been great. Â Almost all of their appetizers are just awesome. Â I love the slightly sweet Irish chips, the macaroni and cheese bites, the cornbeef bites, and the spinach and artichoke dip. Â Their potato soup (which they have daily) is so creamy and flavorful, I could slurp up buckets of the stuff. Â My favorite meal has to be the bangers and mashed though. Â I find myself ordering it every time I go now. Â I can't help myself.
As far as drinks go, it's pretty standard. Â And that's probably why I find myself not coming here as often as I could. Â I love me a good martini, a nice stiff cocktail, or an awesome craft beer. Â Ballydoyle doesn't really excel in any of those things, so unfortunately instead of finding myself here on a Friday or Saturday night, I opt for some my more favorite bars and breweries. Â Don't get me wrong, this is pretty much a standard bar that would please just about most drinkers, but I think as of late, I'm not really your "average" drinker anymore...I'm kinda a booze snob. Â But I digress...I definitely crave a Guinness from time to time, and when I do, Ballydoyle is where I want to get one. Â They also have a new IPA on tap, which is an average IPA, but for me it's better than no IPA at all.
I really like the decor, which consists of kinda used up and recycled parts of tables, chairs, doors, etc. Â I think it looks really neat, but after sitting on the hard-as-rocks wooden chairs for a while, your ass will start to hurt, and you find yourself wanting to move on to a more comfortable setting. Â The bathrooms are always clean and pretty awesome decor-wise. Â I love the wine bottles stuck in the wall around the mirrors.
The service is pretty good. Â I've been there quite a bit, and only one server really has stood out as being exceptional. Â Although the bar seems to be pretty slow. Â They take forever to pour beers and make drinks and that's when they're not even that busy. Â I also don't like the uniforms they make the girls wear. Â Kinda cheesy.
We tried watching a sports game once there, and it was a little hard to do. Â They only have a few tvs at the bar and they are relatively small. Â I'd prefer to watch games elsewhere. Â They also have pretty good bands playing on the weekends, but I was never a fan of what they were charging as a cover for some of them. Â About the same price as better bars, with better bands in the city. Â They have seemed to cut back on the cover charge though. Â I've found that most times I go, there isn't one at all, which is nice.
All in all, I like Ballydoyle. Â I probably really should go more often considering I live so close. Â I just can't resist bigger and better things sometimes though!
Too-ra loo-ra loo-ral!
Oh Danny boy, these Irish eyes were smiling when my order of Irish chips came out. They were amazingly delicious, as was the blue cheese dipping sauce that accompanied it. I would have ordered more, but I had loaded cornbeef boxty coming. Mmm MMm, it must have been the lucky o' the Irish on my side cus I was on a roll.
I wasn't done yet, because the bread pudding I ordered was some of the best I'd tried in a long time. I'll defintely be back soon. The feel off this place is great and the service is excellent. This place gets 4.5 stars, and it would be a solid 5 if the prices were a little lower. The bill can add up quickly for dinner... but... they do have half off any pints on Tuesdays. Woo!
So ended up here for a quick bite and drink before a 2nd city show at the nearby Paramount theatre and this was a great way to start the evening.
This is a cool Irish pub with good choice of Irish and European brews on tap, Irish whiskeys and traditional Irish food.
The place was packed so service was a bit on the slow side but who cares when you are in good company, sipping a nice pint of Guinness and munching on more than decent bar food.
Will definitely be back when in the area. The boxties were excellent and the bread pudding was worth every bite.
So after awhile, I decided to go back to Ballydoyle with my friend. Hey it's St. Paddy's weekend, why the hell not? Since I love the Irish Chips, I ordered that. I do not know what happened in a year's time, but they were awful. The chips themselves were okay. But the warm bleu cheese sauce was the consistency of watery soup. The last time I was here, I remember the sauce was thicker and had bleu cheese chunks. This was not good, especially when I'm charged an extra $2.00 for the bleu cheese.
I like the bar itself and it's in a good location. And for a week night, the place had a good size crowd. But the one fact that is a little off-putting is the service. The waitresses are always slow to come and take an order. I don't know if the "seat yourself" concept throws them off or what. But this seems to be a problem every time I come in. Though once a waitress does come over, the service is good. I had ordered beef tacos and was served chicken tacos. The server caught the mistake and immediately comped the tacos. I appreciated that.
I still don't know if I will be rushing back here any time soon, especially since my beloved Irish Chips were not up to par. This is now an "okay" instead of  "I'm dying to go there" type of place.
Lots of European beer on tap.  Friendly, knowledgeable bartender.  Happy to let you "try before you buy", and why not??  I don't enjoy the experience when a barkeeper is snooty when you ask to sample a beer you've never had.  Ballydoyle's bartender has no problem with sampling.  The Späten Oktoberfest was brown, full-bodied and delicious (not to mention: on sale! the night we were there.). The decor was cool like an Irish bar should be.  Even though the expansive nature of the space didn't seem to bring the Dublin vibe to  me, it is worth overlooking that to have such an excellent choice in beers and friendly service. Â
I know they have live music from reports of experienced visitors. Â I know they have food, as well, but I didn't try that. Â I asked my brother about the pub-grub, he said, "it's pretty good.". But, the way his voice raised a couple octaves when he said "pretty good", leads me to believe he was just trying to be positive and upbeat about what was really just average fare. Â Ya know:
                      Pretty
                             Good
"How's the food?" Â Â Â Â Â " Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Food...."
What would you think?
I will start it off like I usually do... Positives and Negatives.
Positive:
The sweet potato chips were awesome... Little sweet little salty
You go the ambiance of being in an old European church (that could be bad if you're drinking)
Service was A+
Negative:
Can't really think of any except that the crowd was a bit older that I am.
Ballydoyle's is good spot to check out if you live in the burbs. Its hard trying to find things that are special out of the city. Maybe other places offer cheaper drinks, but if you bring 2-3 people with you and have a drink you will have a good time. I still have to this day the fond memory of the pictures we took acting like we were in church. (THE SEATS WERE PEWS... INTRIGUING IS IT NOT?)
Check it out
Loud and HUGE this place is amazing on a full-house night. Great menu both adult libations and food. A little for everyone within the bounds of a great pub.
Great acts, great location, though parking is practically non-existent--with exception of nearby (fee) Hollywood Casino parking deck.
It's a shame they charge a cover fee or else, we'd come here instead of Quigley's in Naperville.
I'm surprised at the negative reviews. Yes sometimes the parking is a bit tough, but it's never that crazy, and ignore the attendants, you can park in the garage wherever you're going!
So, I have been to Ballydoyle several times, and I think the food is really delicious, some of our faves are: Pulled Pork Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, The Club, and The Guinness Stew are total winners, skip the Shepherd's Pie unless you want tons of potatoes, and no meat.
The bar is a great place to linger. Really personable bartenders, reasonably priced drinks, and TVs for all the games. What keeps me away from the 5 stars is the insane 180 it does when there are lives bands or special events. The beer prices jump, there is a cover- I agree is ridic at a restaurant/bar and it is crazy crowded/loud.
Final say: Great place for a casual, delicious meal - but know before you go. If there's a band playing there, you may want to reconsider.
