I'm glad I put off reviewing this place...
When it opened, I was THRILLED to have a Thai place near my place in South Burlington. But initially they had strange hours which prevented me from being able to go. A few weeks after they opened, we finally made it over. We were offered a lunch special of an appetizer and lunch sized meal for a set price...I forget what the price was, this was a while ago. So, I had some sort of stir fry and a salad composed of long thin pieces of carrots and iceberg lettuce. The stir-fry was horribly bland with chicken breast that tasted like it was make from whatever is in the middle of McDonald's chicken nuggets. Or at least last time I had them, which would have been in the early 90s. (I stopped eating at McDonalds as soon as I was old enough for my mom to let me choose my own food). The service was decent and quick though, but we were the only people at the place. We had eaten outside (which I recommend if going. It's much nicer with the little garden and water foutain thing)
A couple of weeks later we were again in the mood for Thai food, but didn't feel up to going to our favorite Thai place which is about a 20 minute drive, so we thought we'd give them another shot. The hours had changed and were better. I had a "crazy" bowl of chicken and rice, and my partner had curry, I believe. (Okay. I can't remember what he had). I opted for the soup this time, which was a clear, very salty broth with some scallions and mushrooms in it. Even though I hate mushrooms, I found the soup to be quite tasty, and good for getting me to down a few glasses of water on a fairly hot day. I had a decent portion of rice with a lot of vegetables and a pretty large piece of chicken breast. It wasn't the most flavorful food but it was an improvement over our first time there. The portion was good for lunch, or a light dinner. And it wasn't greasy at all, which was nice. It actually tasted somewhat healthy..It wasn't too salty or too spicy.
The last time we went, I had another stir fry entree with salad. The salad was a slight improvement over the first time. It had more carrots and I think some romaine hearts (none of the leafy greens from the outside though) and still had their sweet tangy house dressing (which is quite good). We also had the chicken satay as an app. It was decent, but a little bland. My stirfry this time had a rich brown sauce. It wasn't very spiced, but it was tasty.
I don't know, as a Thai place I think it's falling short...I'm used to Thai food being bold and flavorful with a lot of spices. This sort of reminds me of a stir fry place I went to somewhere on my travels that you just ordered whatever vegetables, protein and sauce you wanted and they made it in front of you. They use decent ingredients, are generous with the fresh vegetables and now are using better (though not great) meats. But it's still kind of bland. If you want a quick, reasonably healthy and cheap meal...come here. If you want Thai food, go somewhere else.
The food is not very good here. Â I won't say it's awful, it's just not anywhere remotely close to authentic thai cuisine. Â Bland sauces, boring presentation (and wait staff), weird techno music playing inside.
At least the have switchback on tap. Â Otherwise, there's really no reason to pay a visit.
Really AWFUL. We came here for take-out as it was across the street from our hotel and we were starving. We ordered: Tofu Massaman Curry and Tofu Red Curry - pretty standard dishes at any Thai place, so we expected something at least decent, but were very disappointment in the food overall.
- The sauces were just not good. Tasted like something from Trader Joe's. The Massaman sauce was slightly sour, but not in a good way - it tasted "off".
- The portions of rice were ridiculously small. As an Asian, I am offended. The amount we were given for two entrees was barely enough for one.
- The red curry had completely RAW eggplant in it - totally inedible and slightly dangerous.
Sorry I had to give such a bad review, but this one was really unacceptable.
