In San Marcos and looking to shake what your momma gave you? This is the place.
Bar One 41 competes with Dillingers for best dance spot in San Marcos. One 41's exposed brick walls, lighting, and raised seating areas make it friendlier looking than Dillingers. Music is loud dance hits and you'll always find a healthy amount of girls and boys on the dance floor.
Only criticism is the DJ, who can't splice tracks with any grace whatsoever.
Maybe I'm getting too old for this sort of thing. The BF and I were stuck in San Marcos for New Years Eve, so we went out on the town for a bar crawl. The upside was, with all the undergraduates at home for winter break, the Square wasn't packed with jail bait trying to pass off lingerie as clothing. The downside was that most places we went to were dead. Bar 141, the bar above Barfish in the location where Lucy's used to be, was the most packed place we went that night, though I really failed to see why. The drinks were cheap but the bartenders were rushed and seemingly inexperienced as all the drinks I ordered were either almost completely virgin or almost completely pure liquor without any mixers. The DJ's were awful. Just plain awful. With that many people crammed into the place the dance floor should have been hopping, but they were playing crap remixes of crappy top 40 music, so very few people were dancing at all. They didn't start distributing champagne early enough before midnight, so I had to make do with the drink I already had instead when the clock struck twelve. We left shortly after that, seeing absolutely no reason to stay. Maybe it's different on non-holiday evenings, but the lasting impression I had of Bar 141 was what a sauced up frat boy would come up with if asked to design a bar/dance club.
