We visited Aggieland this past Fall and were excited to visit this pub again. The staff was still exceptional. There was still a lot of room. And the prices were still good. But I was sad to see that 2 years later this place had begun to transform into a mainstream college bar. The music was so, so loud; we couldn't hear ourselves talk. They stopped carrying the produce to make culinary drinks - no strawberries or basil or mint - because they said it would usually go bad since that's not what college folks order usually. And the fresh, new pub feeling had made way to a slightly club-like atmosphere. It's probably good for their business considering that cater to the early 20s who are still in college, but we'll probably not stop by again since the drinks I was most excited about don't exist anymore.
Review Source:Basil Whippet's Pub and Apothecary lounge now has new signs up that look cool. Â Not sure what happened to my review and photos of opening night, both appear to be missing from Yelp. Â
Once again, we stopped by the night they opened and found the downstairs pub pretty much empty with the exception of two guys at the bar, and a few well endowed waitresses. Â Apparently the dress code here has no reservations when it comes to prominently displayed and celebrated cleavage. Â No complaints. Â
Upstairs at the Apothecary lounge (which was un-named at the time) we found an upscale crowd of well dressed people quaffing hard liquor in what reminded me of a New York City warehouse bar club. Â Great view of Northgate and the campus from up here on the second floor. Â Good times.
