Possibly my favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara county, if not the whole of California. Amazing sandwiches, absolutely wonderful ambience. Jamie, the owner and host, runs an incredible shop. If you're passing through or in the area for a few days you need to check this place out.
Having sampled almost all of the sandwiches on their menu I can recommend the meatloaf sandwich as well as the BLT. Honestly all of their sandwiches are delicious though. Also if you can, have a Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. beer or glass of wine with the meal and sit out in the back seating area. You won't regret it!
Way overrated. Maybe this is the only place in the area that tries a more sophisticated take on a lunch menu, but I can't understand all these ratings. First off, its pricey, expect $13-15 for sandwiches. I got the pork belly sandwich and there were just so many things wrong. Pork belly is supposed to have that awesome combo of tender meat and fat - this sandwich was more like pulled pork. Also, there are other ways to season stuff besides salt. Maybe the guy spilled the entire damn shaker of salt on mine? Â My wife ordered a tuna melt and also got a side of food poisoning.
Review Source:I overheard a customer at the register exclaim, "I feel like I just ate a really great meal at a friends house". Â That sums up the experience you can expect at Bell Street Farm in Los Alamos, California.
My first meal at Bell Street Farm was "too good to be true" amazing, so I decided to re-visit them the next day for lunch, which was an equally amazing experience. So now I'm back for a third day in a row, writing this review and biting into a prosciutto & gouda baguette that "tastes like Europe" as friendly co-owner Jamie described.
Whether you have their rotisserie chicken on a salad or with a side of rosemary potatoes & white bean humus, you can't go wrong.
Their rotisserie pork belly sandwich is to die for, thanks to the crunchy sweetness from apple & jicama slaw.
If you're a fan of the 50/50 iced tea/lemonade known as an Arnold Palmer, don't even think about ordering anything else, unless you decide to peruse their excellent selection of local wines.
As for desserts, just keep nodding and saying yes.
Ok, so I've raved about everything that I've tried at Bell Street Farm, but that's not all that makes this place worth visiting - friendly, attentive staff and a quaint atmosphere complete the experience and leaves me no choice but  a 5/5 star rating.
Be sure to check their hours before visiting.
We were in town to celebrate my friends last week as a fiance before marriage. As mellow as we are, we were antiquing the following morning and I spotted this place and was dying for a cappuccino.
We somehow made it in even though they were closed. After looking at pictures, I realized it was the owner who sort of let us in and I am so thankful and appreciative that he did. He had a plaid shirt, a cowboy hat, and a huge smile on.
I've had many and none have ever come to the quality and deliciousness of this one. I kid you not. From Seattle to New York, I've tried (okay, maybe only 10 or fewer) different shops that serve cappuccino's and this was heaven. I had the perfect dry cappucino. My only issue now is, I live 3 hours away.
Last weekend my husband and I had stayed in Solvang for my birthday. we decided to adventure out and took a drive out to Los Alamos. after we looked around at some of the antiques shops and later decided to look around for a place for lunch. we came across this restaurant. we had ordered and shared a Short rib sandwich, I have to say it was so delicous it was one of the best beef sandwiches we ever had. if we're ever back in ventura county we'll defnitely will come back and try their other entree.
Review Source:Not much more I can add about this gem of a place. Â Staff is incredible sweet and helpful, and the owners are wonderful and welcoming. Â The food is local, organic, and off the charts... Â Why go to the tourist traps in Santa Ynez when you can eat like a king here in the lovely garden? Â My only complaint is that I wish they stayed open later so that dinner could be an option.
Review Source:Awesome. Stopped here randomly as we were driving back home from a weekend up the coast. Just yelped since we were in the middle of nowhere it seemed, and found this spot. It was so cute and hip and cozy and the food was phenomenal. We sat in the lovely little courtyard at the picnic table and enjoyed an abundant cheese plate and some recommended wine. It was like "upscale hipster" meets farm to table...I only wish it was actually where I live so that I could go there more.
Review Source:I love this restaurant! Â We just ate there yesterday on our way home from Cambria to LA. Â The food and ambiance are amazing! Â We had our 2 dogs, and I was just going to pick up a sandwich to eat in the car. Â The owner, who was so nice and so friendly, had seen the dogs outside in front with my husband, and asked if my dogs would like some water, and then suggested that we bring the dogs to sit out in the patio to eat there. Â So my husband and our dogs accompanied me out to a charming patio. Â I had the country grilled cheese and rosemary ham sandwich on multigrain bread. Â Sounds okay, right? Â It was so much more than okay though--it was so good that when my husband tasted it, and he decided to order too. Â He had an olive bread tartine, another winning dish! Â I usually eat half a sandwich, but I couldn't stop! Â We were not only super-impressed with the food, but the wait staff was fantastic too! Â They were so friendly and attentive! Â
When we were on our way again, I looked up the restaurant on Yelp and saw the 100+ reviews averaging 5 stars--so we are not alone! Â Who would have thought that this little town would have such an oasis! Â We now plan to stop there whenever we are on our way up the coast...
i had the best vegan white bean and kale soup and pork belly sandwich! everything is fresh and clean. service is really friendly and helpful. prices are on a steeper side, as much as i would pay for a sandwich in downtown LA but it's worth it! i would go back when i visit Santa Maria again.
Review Source:What a true hidden gem! If you're planning a trip up north (from la) like we were, make sure you plan to make a stop here. The charcuterie platter was outstanding and huge! You really get what you pay for. My husband had the pork sandwich and he was in love. Â Great service and an atmosphere that makes you think you are in the most trendy of the trendiest restaurant in LA.
Review Source:Amazing spot in a small little forgotten stretch. Â Food is fresh, local and creative. Â Local, classy wine selection offered by the bottle and the glass... Combine that with a super-friendly staff and a setting / decor that is beautifully curated and focuses on detail that are rustic and sophisticated... Not an ounce of pretension in this building, Â will become a regular stop for us!
Review Source:I visit California often and this gem of a restaurant in small town USA Los Alamos is just about my favorite place to eat. If I am within 100 miles of lovely cafe, I will stop in. It really is just a combination of reasons that make it so wonderful. First the atmosphere is just so inviting, its not over done or overly large, the outside seating is just precious. The kitchen is within view and you can see the chicken turning on the rotisserie. Secondly the staff, including the owner, are all just lovely, you get the feeling you are in a true family restaurant and everyone is passionate about its success. Lastly and most important is the food...My faviote breakfast is the baked eggs, just amazing, I love the garlic and olive oil mixed with fresh rosemary and baked to perfection. Pair with a sparkling wine and I am just in heaven. Â It is hard to even think of ordering a different dish for breakfast. Dinner is equally as enticing, I love the attention to detail and quality. Free range chicken and pork are just better, feels like good Karma. Â I love the addition of the Third Saturday Chicken Dinners, I have not attended one yet, but I plan on it very soon; rave reviews have been shared. The hours are limited to Friday-Monday, go and enjoy!
Review Source:Incredibly cute cafe in Los Alamos! Â My friends and I were heading home from Santa Barbara, stopped by Beckman Vineyards, and needed a place to stop for lunch. Â We didn't want to stop for fast food and asked people at Beckman for recommendations and this was it.
Driving down the street in Los Alamos, you would probably not realize that this hidden gem is located in the heart of town. Â But it is. Â It is definitely a spot to stop at!
Everything served was amazing and fresh. Â They even have an outdoor patio in the back if you want to relax and enjoy your meal with some sun, fresh air and wine!
Everything that my girl friends and I ordered was great, and everything else that we saw being served looked just as tasty!
I went with one of their daily specials, which was a lamb and broccoli pot pie. Â Perfect portion and totally hit my pot pie craving, guilt free! Â My other two friends ordered a meatloaf sandwich (incredibly moist) and a roast pork salad.
I'm definitely going back, next time I'm in the area!
I had the soup of the day because it was vegan. It was okay, but what I really loved was the butterscotch pudding with caramel. Mmmmmm. I was a little surprised to see that they didn't have much to offer vegetarians who don't like olives. My boyfriend ordered the rotisserie pork sandwich and it looked really good.
The thing I liked the most about this place was the ambiance. It was casual but felt upscale. I can't wait until the weather gets warmer and I can sit outside and enjoy a meal.
I discovered Bell Street Farm the first week they opened and have been a fan ever since. The owner Jamie Gluck is so the best and greets everyone when they walk through the door with a smile and welcome. He is a huge reason for the success of this restaurant but the shining star is the amazing food. I have had many dishes here, the rotiesserie chicken is tender and favorful, served with home made croutons and a rosemary-white bean hummus, just really good. The prosciutto sandwich has this amazing butter on the bread and Bellweather pepato cheese - it is out of this world. The tuna salad is not your mayonnaise-y tuna salad, it is frest green, tuna, hard boiled egg, yukon gold potatoes, really special and good. Last weekend I had the short rib sandwich with blue cheese and carmalized onions, it was phenomenal!
Chef Evan is a genius in the kitchen and we are lucky to have him back in Los Alamos.
Oh yea, don't forget the chocolate pot de creme - you will just die it is so good.
All of the people that work at Bell Street are so nice and their service is top notch.
This is a must visit place when you are wine tasting in Foxen Canyon or anywhere near Los Alamos. I highly recommend it.
If you are on 101 between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, you have to get off at Los Alamos! Memories happen here at Bell Street. When you eat here the staff treats you like family, and you may even get to experience Jamie's on going comedy act! Free Entertainment! And AMAZING food! Country Chic decor, so very quaint and comfortable. Feels like the bar at "Cheers" only with food as the main attraction(and Jamie, haha) and great selection of wine. I wanted to keep this place a secret..but can't contain myself anymore. Forget Disneyland, this is the happiest place on earth!
Review Source:No way it's soooooo good! I LOVE this place. I have been there twice, and both times I ate outdoors in the cold (because we have our little buddy Cooper with us) -- so darn worth eating in the cold! Maybe one day they will get a heat lamp or two :) But that's besides the point. They make really yummy food. Everyone is so friendly, and their service is excellent and should be an example to all restaurants in Ventura. I have ordered the rotisserie chicken twice, but have tried many other dishes. My husband and I order and entree each, and a salad & we share. Last trip I ordered a prosciutto sandwich and then bought one to go because it tasted so much like a bocadillo straight from Spain. My husband has been at least 5 times now, and it's about 20-25minutes north from our ranch, opposite of our direction home, but we thinks it's worth the 40 minute detour.
Review Source:We were in the midst of a roadtrip from Bay Area to Santa Barbara when my eleven month old decided he was done. with. the. car. Â We took the first exit off the 101 and stopped at the first restaurant we found that was open. Â Imagine my amazement at finding such a lovely cafe by chance. Â It was perfect - friendly staff, friendly patrons, cute atmosphere. Â We shared a cheese plate which had some really interesting choices and an aged gouda that knocked our socks off. Â Definitely filing this away as a must-stop for future road trips.
Review Source:Damn it, this is just one of those reviews that I would rather keep to myself. Last thing I want is for people to find out about it and start coming here. It really is a gem.
Bell Street is my new favorite place to dine when I come wine tasting in the area. It's an order at the counter sort of place which can be a little chaotic but it's inviting and friendly. We had a delicious salad, chicken pot pies to die for, and a hearty cheese plate all of which were divine. The servers are nice, they bring you water, they worry about if you got your food or not, and it's just a great place to come hang out and have a bite to eat. They have a back patio for then it's sunny and it's tiny inside but cosy. Delish!!
Walked out of neighboring retstaurant---just not a good vibe---and walked into heaven. From the helpful cashier, to, the server, to the ---I believe the owner, everyone was positive and helpful--even helped us with a bike route!
The coffee was strong and good--just what we needed. The soft boiled eggs, foccacia and pulled pork hash with eggs were all fabulous! Did I mention the butter that was finished with sea salt and the local plum jam?
Prices---totally reasonable. We will be back tomorrow for breakfast before heading back to Northridge!
Their food is fabulous!! My husband I loved their appetizer: prosciutto on budget which we ate at one event. Tasty prosciutto was on crunchy outside and moist and soft inside budget. We decided to go their restaurant. We ate Deli Salad Sampler, meatloaf sandwich and rotisserie pork. All of them were great. Ingredients were all fresh. My husband is not fan meatloaf, but he loved their meatloaf sandwich.
Service is excellent as well. Â
They are also selling some meat product. I tried salami. Again, it was tasty.
Bell Street Farm is one of my must go back restaurants!!
Small general store feel in the little town of Los Alamos. Is the distance and long line worth it? You bet ya.
Small and quaint inside but if you're lucky, stretch out on the back patio.
Queue up and place your order of farm fresh food. The sandwiches are outstanding. I chose a Special, Roast Beef with arugala that was melt in your mouth delicious. Paired with a dry Chard, this was perfect to kick off some wine tasting.
Others enjoyed the grilled cheese with ham and Tuna Nicoise. We were all very pleased.
I don't think I would make the treck specifically to visit Bell Street Farm but I will make sure it makes the itinerary whenever I'm near.
On our way back from a little wine weekend in Paso Robles we were hungry and decided to stop in Los Alamos. Â Los Alamos is a GREAT little town! Â We knew that the Full of Life Flatbread company wasn't open for lunch and we were hoping that would find some other great place for lunch. Â Â We found Bell Street Farm. Â
After ordering I looked at Yelp. Â Holy Cow!!! Â They had a TON of reviews and they still maintain a FIVE STAR!!! Â Â Unheard of! Â All of a sudden I was overcome with fear and sadness... sad that now I might have to split my time between here and the Flatbread company and fear that my sudden high expectations might not be met! Â While our lunch was being prepared I looked around at the wine selection. Â Tablas Creek! Â That great little Rhone-style wine maker in Paso Robles, it was on our little tour the day before! Â Then I saw the Holy Grail of fine California wines... Seasmoke! Â Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a bottle of Seasmoke? Â They don't let ANYONE sell their wines. Â Bell Street had the Southing and the Ten! Â Â I have been lucky enough to try both and my wife and I both liked the Southing better! Â Save the $15 and get that one. Â I had almost decided before eating my lunch that I was going to give this place five stars! Â But then.... Â Â
...The owner comes over and we chat, he asks if we want something while we are waiting, and promptly gives us a couple of generous pours of a wine he had open. Â A great white selection. Â It hit the spot!!! Â Â
Lunch was delicious and well deserving of the rating that I am giving this place. Â But almost seemed like a formality at this point. Â We had the Pork sandwiches which came out hot and wonderful. Â There is no doubt the ingredients are fresh and top quality. Â The pork was very moist and tender, not overcooked. Â Â As a side there was a little celery salad with a delicious dressing and a few pickled radishes, at least I think they were radishes, wasn't too familiar with them and enjoyed trying something new. Â Â Much better that a what any other deli might put on the side! Â (Thanks for not garnishing your sandwich with a yellow bag containing five oversalted Lays pototo chips)
From now on it will just have to be Bell Farms for lunch and the Flatbread Co for dinner.
My stars...(5=epic "best of")(4=really tasty and want to go again and again)(3=good and will go back once in a while)(2=fair, might return for a visit if there was some glimmer of hope)(1=avoid at all costs)
My wife and I decided to stop in Los Alamos on our way up to San Luis Obispo recently. Â What we thought was going to be a bathroom break turned out to be a pleasant lunch stop! Â But it wasn't pure coincidence. Â We had recently read an article in our local paper that made mention of a few interesting places in Los Alamos. Â We basically kept that in the back of our minds. Â We didn't plan on stopping, but as we drive near, we thought..."what the heck!" Â And we're glad we did!
We decided to try the Bell Street Farm restaurant. Â It's a fairly small place with some outdoor seating in back that looks like an old general store from long gone days of small town America. Â In fact, driving through the main drag in Los Alamos almost feel like a trek back in time! Â You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Â Some tables are shared benches, others are smaller. Â Upon getting to the counter, I asked one of the chefs what the specialties of the house were? Â He immediately responded the rotisserie pork & chicken. Â So my wife and I ordered one of each. Â ...with the pork on top of a salad. Â We also got a side of their potato & pancetta salad, an olive plate, and fresh lemonade. Â Everything was tasty! Â Especially the pork and chicken! Â The fresh lemonade was truly a nice added touch to our small town farm-vibe experience! Â
A couple things to note: Â The dishes come out slow. Â Don't expect fast food for lunch! Â But, it's worth the wait. Â Grab a glass of lemonade and relax while you wait. Â The desserts looked amazing, but we were too full to partake. Â Try at your own risk. Â But, I think the risk would be well worth it! Â
If you're in the area, by all means...check out Bell Street Farm! Â It's a throwback to simpler times that offers good fresh food at a reasonable price.
AMAZING! Best sandwich i've had in a long time, and the Jamie the owner was so nice, quirky and funny! while we waited he let us do a little wine tasting which added to the charm. Â While waiting we enjoyed looking at the merchandise in the shop, (i'm still coveting a neckless in there)
And then the food comes, I ordered the Tamarind Chicken salad with apple chunks in it, OMG, mouth watering, I easily could have eaten 2 more, mouth water delicious!
Hubby had the pork with apple slaw, equally delicious! Â A definite must stop again when I'm up there next!
Bell Street Farm is a SOLID. SOLID option for good eats in Los Alamos, and the surrounding area. Â Move over Brothers, Full of Life Flatbread, and Kay's Orcutt.. Bell Street Farm is the SPOT for dining. Â That is, if you are in to sandwiches. Â Even if you aren't there's other stuff here you could get.
There's also a market inside of Bell Street Farm, they sell tons of different wines from all over the local area. Â There's yummy desserts here which I didn't try, because back at home I had ice cream waiting for me from Doc Bernstien's Ice Cream Lab (another slice of heaven).
When I was here I got the rotisserie pork belly sandwich and the Italian sandwich. Â Both were great but I liked the bread for the pork belly sandwich more. Â It was softer. Â The pork belly was super soft and warm. Â The Italian sandwich was yummy with just the right amount of meat to bread. Â
This place is one of the few places that I will always, come back to if I am in the area again. Â I would drive an hour of a de tour just to come here. Â It's one of the restaurants that have you thinking about it long after you have left. Â Months after you've left. Â The atmosphere is just so warm and inviting. Â The employees are friendly.
For you CA people who have never been here, it's similar to a Mendocino Farms... with a smaller seletion of sandwiches, and a little more intimate, with a ton more wines for you to drink. Â Check out this place's ratings.. most of it is five stars! Â The people have spoken.
We happened to pass through Los Alamos by chance. Luckily my phone still had a little bit of charge and we were able to find this wonderful place.
The food is absolutely exquisite. The ingredients are all fresh and decidedly gourmet. If Bell Street Farm was in Reno I would be a very spoiled person. And not only is the food excellent, but the owner is one of the most friendly people I have ever met. This place is worth getting lost for!
I was in Santa Maria for a friends wedding and the groom told me this place is a MUST STOP PLACE before going home. Â Being that him and I have the same taste buds, I listened to him without any hesitation. Â All he said was to order the rotisserie pork belly sandwich. Â When we got there, the decor made you feel like home. Â Stepped in and place an order for the pork belly sandwich and lemonade. Â When it came out...DROOL! Â Took a bite...DROOL! Â Sipped the lemonade...even more DROOL! Â I am for sure making another trip back out there, kinda bummed that I didn't order a sandwich for the road. Â
Food overall is awesome, as for service...since we sat in the patio, I wasn't able to get a refill on my lemonade. Â Nor did anyone come out and ask if I needed anything else. Â But oh wells, loved the place!
This place is REAL special. I mean REAL special!
It was just a few years ago that Los Alamos was a pit-stop along the 101 freeway. In the past, when I stopped here, it was to get gas and perhaps check out the old Union Hotel, for all of 15 minutes.
BUT NOW, Los Alamos is experiencing a kind of renaissance. One that celebrates community and showcases all that is wonderfully local. :)
Bell Street Farm is the kind of place you would romanticize to find in wine country--rolling hills with canyon oaks, vineyards, and old barns...Okay, maybe that's just me. It's definitely set in one of the prettiest parts of old California.
I was feeling crazy driving a while on the 101. I wasn't willing to wait until my arrival in Carpinteria to eat lunch. So, I looked up some places on Yelp for suggestions. And then I remembered one of my friends having mentioned some special spots in Los Alamos. Luckily, this place was open!
Jamie, the owner, is very friendly and accommodating. It is very evident that he seeks to make his guests happy. He is quite personal and engaging. You can tell that he takes great pride in his lovely restaurant. The others that work at this restaurant are also very personable. You would think that you are a guest in somebody's home. It's easy to forget that you're even in a restaurant. That's how Bell Street Farm presents itself.
Everything here is a celebration of all things local, organic, and sustainable. I ordered a sautéed trout on butter lettuce with capers, carmelized onions, grape tomatoes (I think they were), and some other morsels of goodness along with a glass of some local white wine (I wish remembered the name!). It was all so very good--the kind of meal you don't want to end.
After that, I took some dessert for my little journey to Carpinteria. Jamie suggested the dark chocolate pudding/mousse topped with freshly made cream. Also, I took a cherry oatmeal cookie. Texture and taste were phenomenal. :)
It's been a few weeks since my first visit. Thinking about this place brings a smile to my face and heart. :)
I can't wait to go back. I'm thinking in a few weeks?
This place is a gem.
Every morning a waiter stamps the seal on brown placements that are then taken to each patrons seat after they order at the counter. They are known for their chicken and pork and I can say the pork sandwich is mouth watering. The lemonade tasted as though it was freshly sqeezed that morning and I felt bad for the waiter who had to constantly fill my glass because I just couldn't get enough.
The outdoor patio was gorgeous. This is the perfect place for a relaxing afternoon. It would also be great to rent out for an evening with friends because it feels like the backyard you wish you had to entertain friends in.
