Quaint little cafe. Not much open in Bellville on Sunday. We stopped in around 1:15pm and were told they close at 2pm, so the buffet wouldn't be refilled. Fine with me as I ordered off the menu.
We split an order of the onion rings. The were hot, fresh and homemade. Smaller then most of the homemade ones that I have had before, but still good.
I had the burger and fries. The bun was fantastic, I think it came from the local bakery. The burger however was very disappointing. Â It was tough, chewy and didn't have a great flavor. The fries were hand sliced with the skins sill on, but weren't cooked very well. Think they may have reheated them making them soggy.
My wife had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. She said the fried chicken and mashed potatoes were great but didn't care for the green beans as they had an unusual taste.
The inside of the cafe was very nice. Â Rustic wood floors and unpainted brick walls.
Our waitress was very friendly. No complaints about the service.
I probably wouldn't go back as the burger and fries were a major let down.
I found everyone at the Bellville Cafe pleasant and helpful. My wife and I love finding little, off-the-beaten-path restaurants like this. The chicken-fried steak was awesome. Obviously made from scratch. My wife really enjoyed her chicken. Great food, nice people and a really cool historic building.
Review Source:My wife and I had a less than pleasant experience here last weekend. On our last visit we weren't charged for our 20 month old daughter's meal. This time, without notice, they charged us the full buffet price for our daughter. The manager/owner(?) told my wife she was confused. He also told us he would love to feed everyone for free, but that's not why he's in business.
The fact is, we would have been happy to pay for our daughter's food (and did in this case). However, their policy regarding children and the buffet is so vague, that their own employees don't even know what the policy is. It might be helpful for the owner to post the policy or at the very least make their own employees and customers aware of the policy.
I liked the food and service. However, I doubt we'll be back after the last experience.
