Do yourself a favor and hold it until you get to the Belvidere Oasis. This will spare you from the questionable gas station bathrooms of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Not only are the bathrooms mighty clean but you'll also find...
*A plethora of tables to sit with your not-so-healthy eats
*A myriad of food and beverage options (McD's, Subway, popcorn, Greek eats, Starbucks) - at 11:30pm on a Tuesday Subway and McD's were open...just for reference!
*Travel shop
*Vibrating massage chairs that always seem to be occupied no matter the time I walk in here
It's shiny and clean and provides a very quick on/off the highway. See you soon, Belvidere.
Truck-stop Trixie?
Not quite, though arguable, but I will say that if I'm driving on 90 and can afford to hold it until we get to the Belvidere Oasis, I do. I'll sit on my foot and rock back and forth until until my eyeballs float (#1) or my cold spells turn to over-heated panic (#2).
And even when I don't have to make yellow and/or brown, I can usually find some excuse to stop at the Belvidere Oasis. Clean bathrooms + so many options as far as a transient service area go. In fact, if I didn't have a family to gorge with on Thanksgiving I'd totally come here. With the cornucopia of eats and entertainment available, I'd be willing to best that my truckstop harvest celebration would be just as good, if not better than most familial Turkey Day gatherings.
Not a bad place to get gassy.
Sometimes in life you gotta pull off the road. Â If it was up to me, that would be about every twelve hours. Â However, the people in the car with me never go along with that plan. Â So if you are getting off, I want it close to the highway and everybody's needs met.
Gas - check
McDonalds - check
Clean bathrooms - check
Easy on and off - check
Food that passengers in my car like - check
I would give it five stars if the gas were less expensive.
Get off, get it done and get on with your life.
While driving to or from La Crosse, WI this is either the first stop of the trip or the last. Â I think I hit this rest stop nearly every time and there is an important reason and guess what it is.
The restrooms? Â No, although they are well maintained and plentiful.
The travel store? Â No, although I have gotten trail mix there.
The vibrating chairs? Â No, but I love seeing kids in those.
The fast food? Â No, but I admit I have had breakfast here.
OK, I will tell you. Â It's because there is a Starbucks! Â Yes! Â I need it to wake up on the drive up and I need it to stay awake on the way back.
Plus, you can get gas here as well!
Helping people travel wide awake, check it out!
I remember when I was a kid this place was a rundown rat hole. Now it is such a cool place to go. They have everything you can think of for food and coffee. Cool souvenir stand too and the gas station has super cheap smokes. Almost 3 bucks cheaper per pack then Chicago. So stock up on your smokes of your coming back to Chicago.
Review Source:Great place to stop when you need it. Â
There is a a play area, a dog run, *pretty* good parking (could be better). Â They have clean bathrooms and a nice selection of restaurants.
Just stay away from McD's unless you want to wait about 30 minutes for your food. Â You will thank me later!
Great place for a break from driving. Â I was able to fill the tank, clean my windshields, then head on in to the food court. Â Clean restrooms, plenty of food options, and the employees of the places I went to were actually very nice! Â Nice to know that I can keep it on my list of decent places to take a break at.
Review Source:I can't in good conscience give an Oasis any rating higher than 3 stars. But I can say it's the cheapest gas on your way in/out of Chicago on 90, it also features clean bathrooms with those super powered hand dryers and a Starbucks! What more can you really ask for from a glorified rest stop?
Review Source:This way so improved pit stop in the middle of an extended road trip is like a beacon; and is so very different from my father announcing in the station wagon, "Standard Station up ahead". This place is the first stop on the way up, and the last stop on the way back.
Not only can you get Starbucks, Panda, Mickey D's (just to name a few), a massage, and a shoe shine, but the bathrooms are CLEAN. And let's be honest, when I walk into a stall at a rest area, the last thing I want to see staring at me is a spider web the size of a dinner plate with an arachnid in the center, waving at me.
At Belvidere, even with heavy summer travel, it can get pretty jammed; but the gas is cheap and the coffee always seems to be fresh. One heads up: if you take the other exit at Belvidere by mistake: you will end up at a diary farm in the middle of no where with a pretty nice farmer who, apparently, has coffee brewing for traveler's with substandard directional skills.
Bottom line: it is so good to stretch your legs here!
A Starbucks on the way to Wisconsin or Galena - I'm sold!
I was rather disappointed when the Krispy Kreme shuttered however my waistline isn't complaining!
Restrooms are nice and clean, the gas is cheap and there's a McDonald's - the oasis has come a long way from the old days of just McD's!
The Belvidere Oasis is my savior when I am traveling from my single city existence to my suburban family escape. I get so excited when I finally see the sign of relief.
That's right. I relieve myself. I refill the water for my tea. I fill up on cheap gas. And I get my tush back on the road again.
Man, I love a good road trip. And my Oasis.
It's better than the average on highway food/gas combo. Â Good range of food choices, although most are not open at 7 in the morning. Â Don't remember how the gas prices were. Â Plus one star for the many references to America's next felon governor. Â Now if only the state of Illinois would get over this craze for making every highway a turnpike.
Review Source:Holy crap, no one's yelped the Belvidere Oasis? Well! Allow me.
Barring coasting out of the city on fumes, I always hit up the Belvidere Oasis on my way home to Iowa. The gas is predictably much lower than in the city or even the 'burbs, most of the food places are open during the weird hours at which I prefer to travel, and parking is, of course, plentiful. It's also a good reminder that there's just one more toll (about a mile west) before I have to start watching for the Highway 20W exit. ;)
Need a bag of tacos or a burger to munch on?
Belvidere Oasis.
Need a cup of coffee or a slushy drink to keep you awake and hydrated?
Belvidere Oasis.
Need to take a moment off the highway to just stop and watch the cute puppies playing in the enclosed dog yard before dashing inside to grab a pair of sunglasses or a cell phone charger?
You know it: Belvidere Oasis.
Where will I be the day before or early in the morning of most major holidays?
Yeah...
