Tried the chicken Asiago sandwich based on Joyce's review, and I agree, it was a pretty damn good sandwich. Â It came with seasoned fries, which were well seasoned but not too greasy. Â I also had a cappuccino, which was about what I'd expect from your standard coffee shop. Â I sat at the bar and my waiter was quite friendly and eager to please. Â I have a feeling I'll be frequenting this restaurant during my extended stay in Rolla.
Review Source:The building is beautiful..the service is good but the food is bland and you can tell not made from scratch..pretty sure it comes off a truck which is really disappointing for such a nice place. I had the same chicken sandwich mentioned by the other girl and it was a basic chicken breast on a basic asiago roll with frozen steak fries. Â It is mediocre at best. Â The patio is very pretty. Â The desserts look good but are probably frozen and thawed from a food distributor. Â I would recommend going for drinks, but not food.
Review Source:I rarely give 5 star reviews, but yelp describes 5 stars as "as good as it gets" and taking into consideration the location of this place - this is as good as it gets in Rolla.
A hidden gem among what looks like an abandoned part of a small town, this brick building with nice accents stands upright with pride beaming with a "big city concept for a small town" - as put by the bar manager. Walking inside gives an immediate 1920s feel with a touch of fairy tale elegance.
The outside patio area lined with twinkle lights makes it seem like a scene out of "A Walk to Remember" with live music playing and a warm breeze blowing. The drinks were well made and all the service very friendly and eager to help. Their ice cream stand was still open so for $2.99 I got myself a huge waffle cone with many many scoops of yummy strawberry ice cream (the strawberry cheesecake really tastes like cheesecake too!). And I even had a chance to chat with the owner who was very friendly as I babbled drunkenly to him about not being from Rolla while I waited for my ice cream.
The next morning before I left Rolla, we made it a point to stop in to try the food for lunch. On a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant is obviously still working out kinks (the food came out so slow I almost missed my flight - but the paper lined tables and crayons made the wait pass by faster as we played hangman and tic tac toe) but the service is very attentive and they try their best to accommodate. We ordered the Chicken Asiago Sandwich - which was A-FREAKIN-MAZING on not just a Rolla scale but on an everywhere scale! We also ordered the Seafood Salad as a wrap, which was different and creative but tastes more just like a potato salad with seafood, too mayo-ey for my taste but still I'll give it a thumbs up for effort. The calamari was very good with a spicy sauce and small banana peppers to accent the calamari (reminiscent of Mimi Cafe's Calamari).
Sweet potato fries - this alone is worth 5 stars. I have NEVER had better sweet potato fries. There is a sweet carmel-like flavor to the fries (sort of like sprinkled with cinnamon sugar) with a hint of saltiness. It really captures the essence of sweet potatoes, almost like a candied yam in a fry. I will most likely be craving these fries in a few days.
The prices were probably considered pricey on a Rolla scale, but on a California scale it was decent/medium ranged prices.
Rolla definitely needs a place like this and I can quickly see this place becoming the place for special occasion dinners for couples, families, and business people. One of the managers told us they'll soon be having live music, dance floors upstairs, and outdoor karoke. It'll be Rolla's new one stop shop and I will definitely be back if and when I visit Rolla again. Because of you Benton Square - Rolla's starting to grow on me.
