    5 Course Tasting with Wine Pairings - Wow...I can't believe it took me this long to experience Bernadette's! The mastery of Chef Gerard and his highly skilled wait staff created a 5 course meal complete with perfect wine pairings for an evening I will never forget. The atmosphere is amazing. You enter the near 100 year old home and are served a sweet champagne while seated in the keeping room till they prepare your table. You will dine with no more than a handful of other tables and get complete attention by a server, your waiter and the chef himself. The 3-4 hour affair includes a starter course of scallops, followed by our salad with strawberries and blue cheese, then a shrimp course, beef tenderloin and dessert. This menu changes every day. Because it was my birthday celebration, Chef Gerard surprised me with a table side presentation of his special coffee which included creme de cocoa, grand marnier, rum and chocolate syrup which was garnished by a flaming orange peel that was coiled and lit like a fuse at the top and directed the sweet citrus oils to the coffee as the fire made it's way down to the cup. And just when I thought it was over, we got a final dessert that had strawberries, creme puffs, chocolate sauce and other layers of goodness paired to a perfect sweet white rhine wine...Wait! Not finished yet!!! For the nightcap, our meal included a fine port wine in a small sipping glass to enjoy as we gladly surrendered to one of the finest dining experiences I ever had in my life. Thank you Chef Gerard and staff! Bernadette's is now my favorite special occasion location!

    Went Mother's day because of a prior good experience.  Meal began by waitress spilling 5 mimosas on a guest.  Brought another round and almost spilled those.   Food was typical brunch fare.  The guest who had the drinks spilled on her not offered any reimbursement for dry cleaning. When ordering dessert, they had to check if any was left (we had a noon reservation).  Took 20 minutes for check (chef had to hand write it). Very disappointing experience.

    I went here for a business dinner after a few locals suggested it was the best French food in the area. The excellent service starts as soon as you walk in- door opened for you, glass of champagne in your hand and an open spot on a couch by the fireplace while you wait for everyone in your party. The service continued throughout the remainder of the night where someone was always available when needed, but not over bearing to the point we felt like we were being rushed. You have to make reservations as the chef buys and prepares all food the same day. The freshness of the food was noticeable, but I felt our scallops were slightly overcooked and didn't care for a few of the sauces. Portions were also very large making it difficult to enjoy the last 2 courses. Every course comes with a wine which the chef has paired. I'm by no means a wine expert, but I did like all of the wines and thought each one complimented it's respective course. Overall, the food was great and the atmosphere was excellent but I do feel it is slightly overpriced as the food was not perfect. For French food with a great atmosphere in the Baton Rouge area, I'd recommend the French Market Bistro which is significantly less expensive and provides almost as nice of an experience.

    I was more than a little excited about this place after reading the menu and making reservations...but the food was extremely disappointing.  The ambiance was perfect and the service was amazing.  I simply expected a little more for driving all the way to Gonzales and seeing that beautiful menu.  The tenderloin medallions I had were overcooked and for me, that ruins a meal....even when you cover them with foie gras.

    Interesting surroundings. Excellent food. Finest fresh lump crab meat I've ever eaten. No expense spared on the quality of ingredients. Food combinations were not inventive but classic and excellently prepared. Service was very good, attentive but not overbearing. Had nice wines with dinner but I didn't see the list because I was a guest.  Had a leisurely evening with friends- worth repeating. Try it the next time you want to make an evening of dining.

    This is probably the best fine dining to be found in Louisiana north of Baton Rouge.  Chef Girod is of Swiss French origin (I think??) and prepares a number of exceptional Louisiana dishes with a twist.  They are only open Thursday - Saturday night and Sunday morning for brunch.  If you can't make it any other time definitely do brunch here!  The restaurant is located in a number of restored historical buildings where hwy 22 and hwy 44 intersect.  No big signs.  Reservations required and they definitely prefer men in jackets and the like.

    A cool touch is that you enter through a formal drawing room where the staff always starts you off with a lovely glass of a very nice private label champagne.
