Obviously lots of people can give 5 stars to a beer joint, especially if it is the BEST one in town.
They have a nice variety of good beers here. Â We always stop in to fill a growler when in Newport (it's a good excuse to grab a beer while we're there). Â The staff is nice and the vibe is relaxed.
If I lived in Newport this would be my everyday beer spot. They have a great selection of excellent local beers, affordable prices, good specials, and nice bartenders. The space is really two big rooms. One with the bar and the store where they sell brewing items and bottles, the other with a pool table and more seating.
Definitely a great spot to swing by for a pint or hang out with the local crowd.
This is a great place in Newport to grab local and imported beer either on tap of by the bottle. There are 12 taps which rotate as fast as kegs are drained and can be replaced. During Hoppy Hour (6-7pm nightly) and Wednesdays pints cost 3 bucks. There is food, ranging from sandwiches to bar snacks but this is not a restaurant. There is also a Foosball table and tournaments are held periodically.
Besides being a beer bar, don't overlook the fact that this is the only homebrew shop in Newport.
Pretty much the only place on the central coast to find a diverse tap list and bottle selection.
You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Bud Light tap on the coast, and once in a while you'll find Dead Guy. Nowhere else will have Ommegang Abbey Ale on tap, though.
They post their tap list on their website, so if you're not sure you can always check ahead.
Always nice guys behind the bar, willing to talk beer with novices to geeks and happy to give you a taste if you're unsure.
They also have growlers to go, which are a good deal for many of the more rare craft brews on tap.
They also have a homebrew shop here, if you're in need of supplies and can't get to Eugene, Albany/Corvallis, or Portland easily. Nothing to rival FH Steinbart's, but you can't be picky in Newport.
Don't expect much in the way of food, but you're not going to this place for the food anyway. Go for the beer.
