well, it definitely IS NOT kelly's from back in the day.
always was a bit of a meat market, with kelly counting every thin dime.
but if you liked music with a twang, it was the place to go.
there were some very good, skilled players in kelly's house band back in the day...but  they went away because of cost back in the last 90s.
since then, kelly's slid...until, ultimately, he closed up.

now big al's is somewhat like kelly's.
i've gone there 3 times (dec 2004, may 2007, june 2008) when i was on leave from the army.  i found that when kelly hughes was playing they drew a pretty good, and somewhat familiar crowd (though kelly looked and sounded quite a bit older, and out of practice...though probably just drunk.)  the other 2 times i went kelly was not playing, and the place was pretty much dead.
    would i recommend big al's?
unless they had a really good band, or kelly was playing...probably not.
unless you absolutely were looking for your fix of twang.
there just are not very many options these days.

as for dancing...i mean REAL country-western dancing...good luck!
dance floor ettiquette has become something totally unknown here.
and those few skilled/competent dancers i did see, disappeared by 10:30.

as for the DJ'd music.  well, it has more pop or rock in it these days than country,
so take it for what it is...especially if you've nothing better to do.
as for myself, i might pop in using my army ID...but doubt i'll stay long.
    ...love to dance too much.

I'm not from the Northwest originally but this was my stereotypic image of "out west". Lots of cowboy boots, tight jeans, barn boots, belt buckles.... and overall fashion oddities. So if you're a people watcher and appreciated different cultures I think this may be a good fit for you. I love going dancing here. Most people swing dance. Even if you don't know how, it's still fun. Other entertainment includes mechanical bull, keg races, basketball hoops, pool, beer pong, and darts.

You like the country hick feel?  Come here.  There's a mechanical bull, it feels like you're in a barn decked out for a party, and best of all are the tables for beer pong.  Great ploy to sell more beer.  I was with friends down for a good time, so it was an enjoyable experience.  Probably won't come back unless someone decides they want to have the derailer, a drink that is served in a fish bowl with all sorts of crap to, well...derail you.

Park outside near the outdoor bbq and potheads.

Out in the boonies but so fun! Mechanical bull, basketball hoop that you shoot for beers. Huge dance floor and great drinks. Get the derailer, it's the size of a fishbowl!

I'm back!! After a long vacation from yelping I thought I would start off with a warm and touching review of Big Al's.

Ask anyone and I hate this place... mostly because every mullet, toothless, morbidly obese fella hits on me when I go here. I must have a sign on my forehead.

Minus the lack of sexy fully toothed clean cut men this place has a great band (usually), all the country line dancing you can handle, a bar in every corner, and let's not forget the bull. Oh the bull... this is where you will find most of the classy gentlemen praying that the girl with the low cut shirt will have a wardrobe malfunction.

The bartenders are nice, never a cover for the ladies and I usually have a great story when I leave.

Most fun you have with your boots on.
Big Al's Country Club (Formally Kelly's) is the area's largest honky tonk.
Okay, I honestly couldn't hang there more than a once a year and the band has got to be good one or forget it. If you are looking to relive the  Kelly's days,  The Kelly Hughes band does still occasionally play there. Now and then a Marlboro man type will show up and you'll think you CAN do country. You can't count on that,  so go with a big group and whoop it up.  There's dance lessons and bar games ( keg races, hoops for beer) . Let's face it without a drink, its hard to ride the mechanical bull and it only looks sexy in movies. So my vote is to laugh at everybody else doing it and take a pass.
