They tried, but didn't quite succeed.
West Bend has better to offer with the same feel, but better prices & better food at Riverside Brewery & Restaurant as well as the Poplar Inn. The restaurant has a strong following, but not sure why. The prices of drinks and food suggest a higher quality, but look at the building and its surroundings (shingles peeling off the roof, hand hold cut-out for the kitchen door, weeds in the landscape bids, mismatched dining room, etc.) and it doesn't jive. Tables are placed where wine is stored and we saw a family get told to move from their table (as they were eating) so a waitress could  get to some wine. Waitresses are average, but not the sedate feel that you would expect they are going for. Acoustics are not the best either.
The placement of the restaurant right off the Eisenbahn would be great for attracting families from the trail, but I would not consider the menu to be "family-friendly" at all for both content and price.
I was not impressed The Binkery at all. We had a party of 6 for dinner. There was no hostess and we waited 10 minutes to even be noticed. When we were seated it took another 15 minutes to get waters and even see a waiter. There was 2 waiters for the entire place the night we were there. The food was served warm and two of our orders were wrong. It was also extremely hot due to the sun going down and shining through the windows right in the dining room. There are no blinds on any of the windows either. We were also charged a 18% gratuity on our bill when the service was some of the worst I have ever had.
Review Source:I'm from NYC and was taken here by a friend of mine who is a West Bend native. Â
All I can say is, wow, this place is one of the coolest places to have a few brews I've ever been to. Â The general feel of the bar was really pretty awesome for me as I had never seen anything like it before (felt like I was sitting in someone's house having a few drinks). Â Totally cool setting for a city slicker like myself. Â
I ask to go back every time I'm in town visiting - love it.
