I absolutely love this spot, my fiancé and I went here and it was way above our expectations! The food was full of flavor and the owners treated us like family. What a great place and awesome environment to have an nice quiet dinner. Great to see such a nice spot in my hometown. I highly recommend visiting this spot for dinner and/or lunch!!
Review Source:Definitely a hidden gem in northwest Indiana! Â This quaint restaurant is only open Thurs-Saturday, and the menu changes weekly to feature the freshest, organic, locally grown ingredients (with the exception of the fish, which is flown in by Fed Ex in the morning from Hawaii). Â Although it is a little pricey, it is definitely worth it for the quality and creativity of the food. Â To start, you can usually find the cheese plate on the menu: featuring a fresh assortment of cheeses, honey, and fruit. Â The crab cake is delicious; some of the best I have ever had. Â The hearty bites of crab and the fresh herbs in every bite will make you want to order another one! Â For entrees, my husband enjoyed pork belly: the tender pieces of pork melted in your mouth! Â The rice that accompanied it was simple and clean, perfectly complimenting the pork. Â I had the fresh mako shark. Â It was tender and cooked to perfection. Â The bacon roasted brussel sprouts and carrot puree were outstanding and packed with flavor--you could taste the freshness. Â You definitely need to save plenty of room for dessert! Â We shared an order of bread pudding: hearty chunks of sweet bread, accompanied by fresh raspberries, whipped cream, and custard. Â I could rave about the food forever, but this place gets even better with the creative drink concoctions. Â The bar features an array of craft brews that could please any brew-master's palate. Â For those of you that enjoy a martini, they have inventive combinations to fit the season. Â We indulged in an Andes mint martini and an apple cider martini, both of which went down smoothly!
Review Source:This is a great great great restaurant, all fresh organic and locally raised.  i can't describe the medley of flavors and greatly prepared food.  i would highly recommend this for any occasion you have to try this out.  Chef lives up stairs and has  a great supporting cast around him.  i highly recommend RSVP beforehand.  seating can be tight and limited,  other tables can feel like they are sitting with you lol, but to be honest even the other customers are very friendly.  i want to leave by telling everyone this isn't a place to eat and run this is a dining experience that should be enjoyed and not rushed.
Review Source:A hidden gem! Â Hobart's prince. Â This restuarant is a must. Â Very romantic and the food is outstanding. Â Some may object to the limited menu as the chef changes his menu each week. Â Every meal I have aten here I am always dreaming about the next week! Â His Filets melt in your mouth! Â Do yourself a favor and make a visit to this hometown jewel! Â Oh and the drinks are superb!
Review Source:My husband and I tried Bistro 54 for the first time last night and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was cozy, quiet and intimate.Great selection of craft beers and wines. I had an Asian pear martini which was splendid. Although the menu is limited, each dish was carefully crafted with top quality ingredients and love. We had the cheese plate and french onion soup as starters-both were delicious! My husband ordered the crab and prawn cake which was the favorite of the evening. This dish hit on every note- savory, slightly sweet with a touch of banana, and just the right amount of heat. . Who knew that seafood and a fried egg would taste wonderful together? This is our new date night spot and we cannot wait to return again for an exciting meal.
Review Source:cannot access my old acct on here! Â Nov. 2010: had our first visit to Bistro 54. We didn't have reservations (won't let that happen again! LOL) But they were very gracious and tended to us with wine, insuring we'd have a seat soon- even without reservations. We didn't wait long- but it was well worth the wait. The food is phenomenal and the service is exemplary. This will be our new favorite place (we used to go to Miller Bakery Cafe a lot- which recently closed.) The setting is intimate, beautifully decorated. Its sits on the lake, so outdoor dining during the summer would be perfect. I had the beef crepes and my husband had the filet- both were perfect. We also got 2 appetizers (the cheese plate and the tuna cakes)- also fabulous. Again- this will be our new favorite place for a nice, intimate dinner with excellent food and service!
Review Source:There IS five star dining in NW Indiana!!! Â Red & White Tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes, Filet with Vidalia onion demi-glace and duxelle & goat cheese stuffed french toast??? Â What?? Â Yes. That's right. Â Amazing. Â There are few establishments that just "get it"...and these guys "get it". Â Since we are currently marathon training, our long weekend runs are the perfect excuse for a treat meal. Â And it is always a treat at Bistro 54. Â Chef Scot is always creating organic, fresh, lovingly prepared & imaginative selections. Â Everyone there is always so warm and friendly...you just can't go wrong. Â Go, and eat...you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:How have I not heard of this place over the last 4 years? I happened to run across some reviews for 54 Main Bistro while web surfing for a place to take my wife for our Anniversary... Every. Single. Review. Was positive! In Hobart? Really?
Well after I called on that Thursday for reservations, I found out first hand why every review was positive... Everything was amazing... Yes... In Hobart, Indiana.
There's so much I can say to reinforce why I was smitten with this place. Being in the restaurant business for 15 years, I know what customers go out for... Good food, good service, and ambiance... 54 Main Bistro also knows... because they nailed it.... Amazing, creative, fresh food... Wonderful service... And a relaxing, clean, unique atmosphere.
We walked into the converted Victorian home to a warm welcome from the bartender (whom I later learned was owner, Dave). We opted to start our evening on the outdoor deck overlooking the lake and had a cheese plate appetizer and cocktails. I had a Milk Stout craft beer, and my wife had a white wine. After drinks we headed inside for our entrees. I started with a unique Japanese soup that was something new to me, and my wife had a house salad... We both loved our choices. I had a White Tuna dish and my wife had a Filet. Both were delicious... My dish can best be described as a deconstructed spicy tuna roll... Just wonderful. We accompanied our dinners with a bottle of wine... Perfect. Of course we had to try a dessert... Chocolate creme brulee it is! Topped with freshly picked berries!
Final bill was $140 and worth every penny... Chatted with Dave as we left to learn a little more about this gem, and we can't wait to go back!
The food here is amzazing. Â Their menu changes every week which is great because we like to come here often and it forces me to try new things. Â I was here last weekend and they made me a vegetarian plate that included moralle mushrooms! Â Their drinks are good and beer selection is diverse. Â I recommend this plac to anyone living in the area. Â It's nice to have a fine dining restaurant so close to home, in the summer we walk here.
Review Source:I must say that 54 main bistro is by far my favourite restaurant in northwest Indiana. Not only is the food excellent but the owners, chef, & waitress are all very polite and professional. If you are looking for a fine dining experience with an exquisite atmosphere then you have to try this restaurant. They switch the menu every week as well so this makes it an even better dining experience. I have never tried anything that I did not absolutely love here :)
Review Source:Not only is the food amazing, but the staff is incredibly knowledgeably as well and very driven to please their guests. Â I'm a professional in the spirits industry and I've been to the finest of eateries around; Main Bistro 54 is right up at the top. Â I couldn't be more happy to have such a fine establishment so close to my home. Â In addition, my wife and I are vegan and have found that many restaurants have a hard time creating creative vegan cuisine for us when we go out. Â This is hardly the case at 54. Â Every time we frequent the place they always wow us with beautiful vegan dishes on the fly.
Review Source:This really is as good as it gets in Northwest Indiana. We started our meal with a caprese salad and the coconut chicken curry soup. Both were delicious. My entree choice was the Bistro filet mignon. It was easily the best filet I've ever had. My boyfriend had the pecan crusted chicken with risotto which was equally delicious. I had both the pumpkin martini and the apple cider martini. Unfortunately, we were too full for dessert. As impressive as the meal was, the ambiance was the true winner here. A quiet house with limited seating, dim lights, and flickering candles. A perfect place for a romantic night out and absolutely worth the splurge!
Review Source:I absolutely love this restaurant. Â I am a new resident of Hobart, IN. Â I love this small town but often miss all of the wonderful restaurants of a big city like Chicago. Â Several people in town recommended Bistro 54 for fine dining. Â My first visit was with my husband for our anniversary. Â I immediately fell in love with the decor of the restaurant. Â It's very nice, small, romantic, and cozy. Â It definitely isn't "stuffy" either. Â The food is absolutely spectacular. Â My second visit occured recently with my parents who were in town for my birthday. Â My 5 year-old niece came in town as a surprise and I was nervous about bringing her along because I knew they didn't have a kids menu. Â Not only were they accommodating but the chef went above and beyond by preparing chicken fingers and fries just for her. Â She also said it was the best chicken she's ever had. Â I devoured the braised Oxtail that I ordered. Â This was my first time eating Oxtail and it was very flavorful and tender. Â They also serve delicious cocktails. Â I had one of the best margaritas I've ever had. Â When you're dining in Bistro 54 you forget that you're in small town Hobart. One of my favorite places in Hobart hands down!!
Review Source:Cozy and colorful, Bistro 54 is a classy cafe in NW Indiana. Offering a limited, rotating menu with elegant wine pairings, look for unique dinner options such as Blue Cheese Stroganoff. Using largely organic, locally-grown ingredients, the owners -- Linda and Dave, along with their son, Tony, who's also the head chef -- succeed in serving tasty, fresh meals in a casual atmosphere.
We've eaten in many places in NW Indiana, and this place shot to the top of our "favorite" list after only one visit. It's comfortable, intimate, and friendly -- and most of all, the food is divine. Prices are reasonable ($18-25 for an entree), and the deck overlooking Lake George is quaint: perfect for a candle-lit summertime meal.
Beware: Bistro 54 is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Originally from Hobart, I've lived in Chicago for the past 5 years. Â
I'm not trying to play the whole "big city telling little city what to do" card, promise.
All I can say about Bistro 54 is bravo. Â I am so so so so glad that there is a fresh, inspired option in Hobart. Â
An excellent (and resonably priced for the immense quality) seasonal menu, a fair selection of wine, and a great location make Bistro 54 a place I am proud to visit and to guests.
The outside deck is particularly nice in warm weather.
This was a bold move on the restaurant's part-- Hobart is a tricky place sometimes for restaurants to truly take off.
Please please go Yelpers, and support a really wonderful place.
