This is the living embodiment of the classic American dive bar. Some of the richness of its history has been lost to remodeling after fire damage, but even fans from long ago will return to revisit that infectious vibe.
A long standing tradition of embracing the alternative and expressing the creative is still encouraged, but the more modern culture of "mehhh ... whatever" is standing right there too.
Arrive early for the quieter small town pub and grill experience, and stay late for the youthful excitement only an alcohol infused college town can provide. This is a place where friends hang out and singles gather to meet new and interesting people.
Come as you are. Drink to your content, and stuff your face with regional favorites like chicken wings and curly fries. Don't be surprised at how much fun can be had for so few dollars.
Take the birthday challenge! Suck down your free fruity drink before your giant sparkler sputters out and you will win the admiration of everyone not already distracted by the ongoing search for that one dart that always takes a bad bounce.
Keep in mind that a well placed tip is a good investment, and there's an ATM machine inside for those of us who never want the party to end!
A dark and gloomy bar normally packed with students on the weekends. It has pretty decent drinks at reasonable prices. The crowd there is usually loud but not rambunctious. People love the Long Island Ice Teas there and with good reason, they're strong and fairly priced. Overall one of the better bars in town.
Review Source:BJ's is the oldest surviving bar/tavern in Fredonia N.Y.
The ownership has changed hands from the original family that started the business but the new guy Rob, still keeps what he can going of the old feeling. Â The drinks are still fairly priced the music still sultry and new wave, and the food in the back at the down wind cafe is good. Â Always worth a stop for a few even to just say you were there. Â Happy hour is one of the best in town.
I spent countless thousands of my parents dollars at this place when I schooled here.
I don't know how I spent that much considering this is still the cheapest alcohol I have ever experienced and I now live in New Orleans. Â
Scarfing down free hot dogs at happy hour, blowing summer income on top shelf tequila, housing fools in darts, writing shit on the bathroom walls, and knowing every person who walks through the door is my fond memory of this bar.
I have scars, photos, and liver damage to remember this place by.
I was brought here for a coke, burger, and fries when I was a kid, I worked here, Â i drank (a lot) here. Â This is the only bar worth frequenting in Fredonia.
The only caveat to remember is that Fredonia is a college town and the crowd some nights will be terrible. Â Even on the worst nights, however, it remains the only place worth drinking at. Â
Go to happy hour for cheap pints and great wings. Â Make bad decisions and go on Tuesday nights and eat corn dogs (or whatever they're doing now.) Hell, go Wednesday and Thursday. Â Friday and Saturday too. Â Might as well. Â
Most important of all, tell Robb he's a jerk.
This place is one of the highlights of Fredonia, NY. Â I'm not lying when I say it is one of my top 5 places in Fredonia. Â They have a very good selection of liquor and beer. Â I've always gotten along with their bartenders and thought they were great. Â Their prices are awesome, I know its a college town but still I've yet to find bars with that good of pricing. Â Also they have a kitchen, their food is a very good value. Â Going there for happy hour is a must! Â If I ever do get back to Fredonia I will spend most of my time at BJ's.
Review Source:BJs was the coolest place to go on a bar-hopping trip in Fredonia. All the "alternative" kids hung out there, the music was the best played in any bar in the village & $1 Long Isle Ice Teas & $1.50 Molsons were served on Fri & Sat nights. And the bartender used to ignite 151 rum he'd spit from his mouth! Fun stuff!!!
We found out in Dec, 2001 that the orig owner had sold the place. Dunno what really became of the place after that but judging by the reviews below, it's still got character.
If you're looking for charactered oddballs, affordable drinks, and a surprising variety of live shows, BJ's is your best bet in at least 50 miles. Â Hosting bands ranging from freshly formed to edge-of-mainstream, occasionally haunted by some industry veterans who's names won't be dropped (at least not by me), and populated by the area's brightest eccentrics, this bar's a keeper.
BJ's has character.  It's famous for it... been around forever too, and oddly enough, seems to have always held the same niche.  It's the sort of place people remember 40 years after they've left the State.  Seriously:  While in Washington DC,  I got talking with some old dude at a pub... he was easily 55+.  He hung out at BJ's back in his college days too,  and had the same things to say about the place.  Love it or hate it, or love it then hate it, or just plain don't get it,  BJ's has a presence far greater then it's twenty stools would tell.
