Let me begin by saying that this is a good place to get pub food. Â It is clean, relatively cozy, and the service is very good. The food is good too, but not great. We started off with nachos, buffalo chicken dip, and a hummus platter. All three of these were very tasty. The nachos are huge! Â For dinner, I had a Blackie's burger and my wife had a margarita pizza. The burger is ENORMOUS, with two very large onion rings on it. It was too much. The roll had a greasy taste that I didn't like, but the burger was cooked perfectly. The pizza was....meh. Â However, we have had other pizzas there that were great. Â Overall, I recommend having one of their delicious apps, and sharing a main dish, or you'll both go home with leftovers.
Review Source:So this definitely isn't the place to come if you're a slave to the health craze, but if you're looking to seriously indulge in some interesting comfort food, this is the best place to do so in Northern RI. I've been here a handful of times and each time was a pleasant experience. I've always been seated quickly, the wait staff has always been attentive and speedy and the food has always been delicious!
The menu is very eclectic and can be kind of intimidating if you're used to average pub fare, but take the risk! I've never tried anything here that I didn't like. The BBQ basil calamari is really really yummy. Who thinks to put those flavors together? It sounds bizarre, but it totally works. The burgers here are also really impressive, but I was disappointed to see that the menu had changed and the apple pie burger was no more. They also used to have a fabulous seared Ahi tuna salad that was full of fresh lettuce, Asian veggies and a big hunk of fresh seared tuna. I miss that salad...please bring it back!
Really rich, eclectic pub fare that will more than likely put you into a food coma, to dream of pulled pork nachos, pretzel bun burgers, and fancy grilled cheese sandwiches. Yum!
Pulling up at Blackie's seemed so random. Is it customary in Rhode Island to just put your car anywhere you feel like?
Overall, I liked the pretzel appetizer a lot as well as the sweet potato fries. The deep-fried Oreos, which I first tried last year at the Orange County Fair, seemed more like a dare than real food.
The only disappointing part of the meal, however, was my sandwich: a drippy, tangy gorgonzola cheese sandwich. Gross! Everything else was good enough to salvage the experience though.
This place has the biggest and best gluten free menu, by far. Â So nice to feel included in things like burgers and pizza! Â
service was a bit inconsistent, but when things got messed up I got a gluten free crumb cake for an apology. (read that a lot around here!) Â Suuuper sweet ,but lemony and very good. Â
The burger was amazing, server helped explain how to eat it the right way due to the size. Â salmon BLT was stellar...(hope it really is wild salmon as menu says) Â so creative!
GET YO fries with a side of the maple mayo....its rediculously good.....and oh yes! Â a very fresh and fierce sangria made w Tito's and st germaine...and a slammin expresso martini...still dreamin of it all.....well be back!!!
only thing this place needsis to expand and  to have a live band karaoke night...cause no where else does that... to go with the food no one else has!.....NO?
The tallest burger in the vicinity is tasty and well-balanced, if not a little hard to eat.
Blackie's Bulldog Tavern stands on the spot that used to be Ron's Spaghetti House. Since Ron's closed, maybe a quarter-dozen restaurants have come and gone, none of which will be missed. Blackie's however, stands out as the best eatery that has stood in the spot over the last decade.
Upon entry, service was attentive and helpful. The decor made me think of an American themed version of Outback - dim but not dark, some decoration, and a central bar area. We were seated outside after we were asked our preference for table, and made our decisions rather quickly.
The food was slow in coming, but I figured it fit the vibe of the restaurant. Slow paced, conversational - a casual date place or somewhere you can go to unwind with friends in a respectable manner. That said, when it arrived, I was happy that it seemed like our wait was worth it.
My wife got the flatbread pizza margarita (sp?). It was a long strip of pizza, with cheese, tomatoes, and a few basil leaves. The crust was a little burnt, but that happens with grilled flatbreads. However, the cheese was slightly cooler than expected. Not really a dish I would order again.
I got the Mango Burger. It is sincerely the tallest hamburger I've ever seen. It was at least seven inches tall, composed of a tasty bun, a thick beef patty, mango, avacado, chorizo, tomato, baby spinach, onion, and queso fresco cheese. There may have been some other things on this massive meat-based mountain, but if there was, I didn't notice.
The bun was sturdy. It dealt with the condiments well, not disintegrating under pressure. The burger was nicely charred and just a wee bit drier than I like, however the vast array of stuff on the burger made up for the dryness. The burger was well balanced, and I'd go back for it again.
The height of the burger is daunting. It is like the chef dares you to try and eat it like a normal burger. I was tempted to ask "How am I supposed to eat this?" But I didn't - the flavor was there, so any animosity about the Babelesque burger was glanced over.
My IBC rootbeer was $4. I felt like that was a bit steep, but business is business.
My side was onion rings. I was disappointed that there were only three. That was before I ate one. Each fist-sized ring is a crunchy mammoth. Â When I say crunchy, I mean that these are the crunchiest rings I've ever eaten. By the time I was done with my burger and three rings, there was no room left for more.
I will go back to Blackie's. Their menu is deep and changes seasonally, so there's plenty to try.
Wasn't going to write about my experience at the bar tonight until I read some of the comments regarding the service. Have been going to Blackie's since last summer. Â
We usually sit at the bar for drinks and food. I have always enjoyed it  unless I am expecting courteous, prompt service. Three bartenders working, two doing double duty on the floor, leaving the one bartender in the state who really needs to realize that empty drink glasses, empty food dishes and looking over the heads of patrons as if they are invisible is really service at it worse.  We have had this same service(lack of) from this person on numerous visits. It won't happen again, however, as there are many establishments willing to appreciate patrons spending their hard earned money. What is really too bad is that we really like the owner, the other bartenders, the food and the proximity to our house. We have recommended many people to Blackie's. Too bad we won't be anymore. One more thing, bar tending 101(made a great living at it for many years) discourages naked skin flab hanging out of jeans. Not professional, attractive or appetizing.
Normally 3 times is a charm, but I have been here 3 times and EACH time was a charm.
This location is just off of Rt. 7 (Douglas Pike) easy to get to with plenty of parking! There is a patio seating area, which is nice and not overcrowded. Other than enjoying the outside air while dining (fresh air if people aren't smoking), the view is of the parking lot.
The staff, as busy as they were each time we visited, paused, smiled, made eye contact and pleasantly greeted us at the entrance. The bar and high table area is a decent size and clean, and didn't have that bar smell that some have.
The dining area is dimly lit, but the TVs on the wall and the interesting colors make it "vibrant" each table has a "candle" as well. Its a table and chairs dining area, which allows for the flexibility of accommodating larger parties. Â There is a combination of high and low tables.
As soon as we were seated, the wait staff starts their work. The quickly take and delivery drink orders. The menu is creative, which hooked me into coming here. The variety of sizable burgers with several different types of toppings can keep my attention for multiple future visits. They offer EGG...you had me at egg. Â For me, you know it is going to be a BURGER when they drop off a steak knife prior to bringing your burger.
The appetizer options are decent as well, however, I can't seem to stray from the pulled pork nachos! They use cheese sauce on their nachos!! Sinfully good. The pulled pork has a great flavor and the corn salsa and guacamole are both top quality, in fact that seems to be the first thing to disappear from the platter before the chips. Â Yes, I said platter. The platter is almost as long as the width of the table. The nachos can easily be shared by 4 people, even if one in your party is ravenous and a nachos hog. (That would be me).
I have tried 4 different burgers and each was perfect! Cooked as we requested, medium. Each burger was assembled with great care with perfect portion side of fries. The apple pie burger is an amazing creation. That chef should win an award...I was nervous, but it just worked and I devoured every bit of it.
While gorging on the food, the staff continued to bring refills and napkins without having to be waived down. The staff, so very attentive and prompt - that keeps me coming back as well.
Please know the portions are large, be prepared to share or take leftovers home.
Kyle our server for our first visit and the Apple Pie Burger and Breakfast burger had us coming back for the second visit. Service and food had us coming back for the third...consistent food and service will have us coming back with friends and co-workers for a fourth visit!
I came here after being painfully sick. Didn't know if there would be anything I could eat but I threw caution to the wind and got the hummus wrap. Banana peppers, hell yeah! Delicious.
Service was great, very friendly. One person in my party had their order messed up and they couldn't have been nicer about fixing everything.
For some reason I remembered this place as being kind of crummy but then I looked at the menu. They have a whole section just for grilled cheese-style sandwiches. Once I am fully recovered I'll definitely be back to stuff my fat face.
If I lived in Lincoln, I would go to Blackie's at least one to two times a month. I LOVE this restaurant. There is nothing about this restaurant that I would change. I love that they have both indoor and outdoor seating, I love that the restaurant is smaller but has enough space to not feel too cramped. They have live music on the weekend for dinner, the noise level, even with a lot of people inside, is still bearable, and the service is excellent. The waiters know the menu from front to back, and I felt very comfortable eating there as a gluten free diner.
The gluten free menu? FANTASTIC. If you can't find something on their gluten free menu, then you need to call me and I will force you to tap into your Inner Foodie. Gourmet grilled cheese sandwich on Udi's gluten free bread (which is arguably the best GF bread in the market), gourmet pizza on Udi's pizza crust (which is not the best crust I've had, but with Blackie's ingredients it is GREAT), pumpkin risotto with prosciutto cracklings and Mac and Cheese Burgers on an Udi's GF bun? Sign me up!
I have had the GF chicken tenders, GF Mac and Cheese Burger with sweet potato fries and a GF flatbread pizza with smoked bacon, basil and tomatoes. The Mac and Cheese burger was so rich and filling that I could only eat half! I enjoyed it, wish the Mac and Cheese was a little more salty (a touch more of Parmesan cheese), but that's only a minor concern! The burger was cooked perfectly and very tender. The chicken tenders were not as good as the other food since they seemed to be a little overcooked. Instead of them being tender, they were stringy and dry. However, I dunked them in both of the sauces and it helped! I would still order them again just for the sauce, but also because I think it was a fluke! The flatbread pizza? YUM-O! Even though Udi's crust is simple, the ingredients were fresh, the pizza crust was cooked perfectly (not raw like many other restaurants tend to do), and oh that smoked bacon. Perfect topping and just enough to add a salty happiness to the pizza. The mozzarella was fresh and had just enough mildness to tame the salty smoked bacon. I loved their sauce as well - a little sweet and herbaceous.
The seasonal wild berry Sangria? Get it. Very light, not too sweet, and that fruit is an extra treat when the Sangria is all gone. Ask for a glass of ice on the side because they don't put much in - not that I minded because that means there's more Sangria in the glass! I love the little sprig of mint that freshens up the Sangria and makes summer settle into my mindset while I sat outside enjoying a beautiful RI summer night.
Go here. Do not hesitate. This is bar food gone wild. I want to send this to DDD, but then everyone would know about it and it would be too packed for me to get a table! Enjoy every bite my friends!
What a gem! In Smithfield! Great food from everywhere on the menu. Apps cover fried pickles, buffalo chicken dip and seared tuna with a edamame hummus. sandwiches are great burgers and amazing grill cheeses (try the Orchid). The staff is friendly, personable and quick to take care of you. Keri, Katie and Ruth do not disappoint.
Review Source:I love this place!!! Delicious food, and far from the norm! The apple pie burger is the perfect combanation of sweet and smokey. My husband usually gets the late night burger, which has PB & J and BBQ sauce, with this combo one would think it would taste funny, but the combination is delicious! As for the appetizers, we have cornered the market by trying most of them. I will tell you the pulled pork nachos are excellent, the teryaki wings are deliciously crispy and tangy, and the calamari is sooo good. For those that have prefetence, they are calamari rings and not the whole squid. The pretzels and cheese are also great, but it is a very small portion of pretzels, even for an app. There is normally a wait, but it will be well worth it! The ONLY thing lacking is the draft beer selection and mixed drink menu. For now it's just a decent sangria or a choice of 5 drafts.
Review Source:This is my new favorite date night restaurant. Honestly, a few months ago I did not have a great opinion of this place. I had visited sometime in 2011 and service and food were sub-par at best. I only returned because a group of friends chose it for a night out, and I'm so glad they did. The menu is so interesting and diverse. Some of the dishes sound totally off the wall but I am here to tell you that all the ingredients (even the ones which totally do not sound like they belong) meld together to make a perfect tasty treat. Some dishes we have tried so far and fully endorse are:
Harvest pizza
Pretzels and cheese app
Buffalo dip app
Late night chef burger
Apple pie burger
Shrimp fondue special
Scallop special
The big dog
As you can see, we have returned quite a few times and have never been disappointed. Service has always been great too, waitstaff and the hostess are always great and the owner is always visible, helping the staff and available to guests. I will continue to come here on a regular basis and tell people how great it is!
WOW - is all I can say. Â It was my first time here and what an amazing experience. Â I had the Chef Burger... Can you say Peanut Butter, Grape Jelly, BBQ, Cheddar, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion & Pickes on a burger! Â
Bartender Katie was great as well!!!
Fried Oreos for dessert, got them with Peanut Butter as well, first time they did that, but I love PB. Â Came with PB and Vanilla Bean Ice cream...
I would recommend to everyone, and the live music tonight was also great!
I had the pleasure of dining at Blackie's on 4/30 and my experience was phenomenal. Keri, our bartender, was personable, attentive and made one helluva drink! My friend and I split the Apple Pie burger and the Turkey Pub - both were out of this world.  It took a bit of convincing for me to agree to the Apple Pie burger (way out of my comfort zone) but  I am so glad I gave in. The Turkey Pub was scrumptious and the homemade chips were out of this world. We ordered an side of the brown sugar maple mayo -- O M G -- sinfully delicious.  I will definitely be back !
Review Source:I initially came here about 2 years ago and absolutely HATED my experience. Â I believe I wrote a review on it and only gave it one star. Â
This past Saturday some co-workers and I decided to give it an other chance and I am glad we did. Â
I was in a party of 3. Â We sat down right away and within 30 seconds a waitress addressed us and took our drink order (opposite of my last experience). Â We also ordered our food when the drink came back and were served our meals within 10-15 minutes after placing our orders. Â In total, it took about 25 minutes TOPS to get our main course. Â (Again, completely different from my last experience in the dining area). Â
I had the "Chicken Parm(ish)" dish made with a chicken cutlet, one other had the multi-cheese grilled cheese and the other had Pumpkin Risotto. Â All three dishes were of a very good-sized portion. Â My dish was at a correct temperature.
The food was excellent and the wait staff seems to have changed for the better since the last time I was here (2yrs ago). Â
I would go back.
Super slow service took over 45 minutes to get a hamburger. When the food finally came it was all well well done, dried out, and not edible (think beef hockey puck). When I complained about the burger the servers response was "that is well done" and did not offer to take it back to the kitchen. Â They then a la carte their menu making a bacon cheese burger with fries (since fries are extra) almost $16! Definitely not worth the price of avoid at all costs.
Review Source:My friends and I planned a lunch date for an early Saturday afternoon and one friend recommend Blackie's Bulldog Tavern as our destination. Â I'd never heard of it before, but she had been once before and was very impressed with the food.
I was the first to arrive at 12:30 p.m. and was able to pick the table in which to dine. Â My first impression of Blackie's is that it was a typical bar/restaurant atmosphere with a full bar and several tables and TV's throughout; all of the TV's were airing sports (barf.) Â The ladies room was clean and nicely decorated... yes, I notice these things :)
Our server was wonderful; within two minutes of having taken my seat, she was over taking my drink order, bringing menus and a highchair for the baby as well. Â She was consistent throughout our entire 3 hour stay at Blackie's and she was patient, sweet and helpful. Â I'd say that at the busiest point during our visit, there were a good number of people in the restaurant and our service never went interrupted.
I wasn't starving, so I just ordered a Caesar Salad; it wasn't the best I've had... the lettuce was completely drenched in dressing which kind of made it inedible; I only took a few bites before I decided I was done with it. Â My friends, on the other hand, both ordered the Barbecue Chopped Chicken salad and were very impressed with it; the both cleaned their plates.
The menu is typical bar food with a slight American Fusion twist. Â There were items that I'd never seen on a menu before, such as Deep Fried Pickles, Apple Pie Burger and a Hummus Pizza... so I give them points for creativity. Â
Would I come back here again? Â I'm not sure. Â I'd be willing to try an actual meal as opposed to a salad and I would hope I'd be more impressed with it than I was my first time around.
Yes the service is slow. This apparently is not a concern of the chef/owner who would have addressed the issue by now if she felt it required fixing (...it does...) Â But the burgers we had, were in fact, juicy and cooked properly, despite the wait. I'll return once more for other menu items, but if the inattentiveness of the staff and the extra 15 minutes of kitchen time is still an issue, I just can't see putting Blackie's on my 'go-to' list of comfort food spots that impress
Review Source:Blackie's is a great American grill & bar. I've gone here for appetizers and drinks, group dinners, dates, and girl's night. They never fail to impress. The wait staff is always very fast and caters to your needs. Always timely refills on drinks and there when you need them.
The menu has a little bit of everything, but the burgers are IMO the best food you could order. For my most recent visit, I ordered the Apple Pie burger. It was a burger patty with a warm apple compote, bacon, and served on a pretzel bun. Not surprisingly one of the most delicious dinners I have had. I always get the side of home-cooked kettle chips too. I have never left hungry.
The atmosphere is great too. It's small but not crowded, and can be intimate or group-oriented, depending where you choose to sit. They also stay open late for the bar. Haven't stayed that late yet but it always looks full!
We decided to give this place a try after reading all of the great reviews but after our two visits we've come to the conclusion that quite a few of the 4 and 5 star reviews must be fake. Â
We have eaten here twice in the past few months and both times we left unimpressed. Â The first time the service was very slow and the place wasn't even crowded (the couple next to us were so mad about the service and food they left midmeal). Â We tried the pretzels with cheese for an appetizer, it was small and boring, a burger and the Shepherd's Pie, the burger was just alright nothing special but the Shepard's Pie was tasty. Â The second time we visited the service was much better. Â This time we tried the Asian calamari, carbonara macaroni and cheese and the short rib ravioli. Â The Asian calamari just tasted like a cheap General Cho's chicken sauce poured over fried calamari. Â The chicken in the mac & cheese was burnt which made the entire dish inedible, you think the chef would have caught this! Â The short rib ravioli was just alright, tasted more like pot roast though since there were a lot of cooked carrots mixed in. Â
Not worth the drive!
Went with another couple Friday night and must say everyone left full and very happy. Everyone had beer, some drafts, some bottles. Next time were going to have to try some of the apps and mixed drinks.
I had the steak and cheese sandwich and was very pleasantly surprised ! The steak tasted delicious and the cheese on top... gooey heaven! I opted for no mushroom but enjoyed the grilled onions and peppers. The sweet potato fries looked over done but tasted great. I liked that they used sea salt instead of plain ol' table salt.
The man had the ribeye and said the steak itself was perfect but he could have gone without the chutney butter concoction that he wiped off to the side. His broccoli was over done for his liking (I like mine wilted) but the garlic mashed made up for it.
The other couple had the pulled pork sandwich and the tavern burger. Both cleaned their plates.
Our tab for 4 was reasonable and we all left saying we want to return!
The interior of the restaurant was clean and modern with subtle romantic under tones....much nicer than I had envisioned by only seeing the menu.
Our waitress was very nice and attentive to requests and refills.
Looks like a new spot to add to our dining out list!
Holy moly, Batman! I've lived in Smithfield all my life and have seen many restaurants come and go, but this place is a keeper! My boyfriend and I finally decided to try this place out a few weeks ago and I am happy we did. The menu is not your typical menu that you would find in Smithfield; it includes many different variations and twists on classic sandwiches, salads, and entrees. The grilled cheeses are ah-mazing (along with the homemade chips!) and their hummus is literally the best I've ever had. Not to mention the beer is well-priced and the drink menu is expansive! New local hangout!
Review Source:A few of our friends live in RI and took us  to Blackie's Bulldog Tavern. We went on a Saturday night around 7pm. It was super busy and we had a 45 minute wait, which was fine. We found a table at the bar and grabbed some drinks.
The staff was extremely friendly, both at the bar and the waitstaff/hostess. We ordered fried pickles and the asian calamari for apps. Both were delicious
My husband ordered the fish and chips. The fish was giant. He was only able to eat half and brought the rest home. Meal came with a generous serving of fries, though they could have been crispier.
I ordered the Apple Pie Burger -- HEAVEN! I ordered with onion rings (giant!) and only ate half of the burger as it was very filling.
Service was fantastic as well as the food. I wish we lived closer so we could frequently visit! Yum! :)
I moved to the area in April of last year and my wife and I spend a lot of time looking for "the place to eat". Blackie's food is hands down the best food in the area, the service is always friendly, the food-perfect and the atmosphere can't be beat. They never disappoint and we take everyone we know.
Review Source:You know that friend who went to the same mediocre school as you but now acts like kind of a snob? (Bryant kids, I know you do...). Well, Blackie's is that guy. I loved this place once. Solid pub grub, good prices, a full bar and a bar staff that knew how to use it. Every time I've been in here in the past year however, the menu has changed, and never for the better. Instead of sticking with the solid pub sandwiches and entrees that it did so well, the menu seems to get more eclectic with each visit. If I wanted to eat at Julian's, I'd go to Julian's. The only reason it gets 3 stars is because the bar staff is still great.
Review Source:Blackie's was recommended by a friend who had been there a few times. Â He's a beer drinker like me, but he also appreciates good food. Â Him and his girlfriend had been a few times, and he had been trying to get me to go with him. Â Well, today was the day I finally was able to go. Â Prior to going to Blackie's we took a brewery tour of a new microbrewery elsewhere in RI. Â So we arrived at Blackie's around 2:30 PM. Â That time of day, the place wasn't too busy, so we were able to get seats at the bar no problem. Â Our bartender, Katy, was immediately welcoming and engaging. Â She got us our drinks, and gave us menus. Â As we reviewed the menu, she made several very good food suggestions. Â
Let me stop for a moment. Â Most bartenders I've dealt with (I say MOST, not ALL) have been more engaged with drinks, not so much food. Â Katy was totally engaged with the menu. Â When it came to the restaurant's menu, Katy could talk a dog off a meat wagon. Â There was no question she was passionate about not only her job as a bartender, but also the restaurant's food. Â She made several very good suggestions, most of which we partook of. Â She was 100% correct. Â Later in the day, she took her break, and sure enough, she was eating the exact same things she was suggesting to us - so right then I knew she was not just trying to make a sale.
The beer selection was very good. Â The food menu is nothing short of amazing. Â The burger selection is something I've never seen before. Â My burger selection .. after it had been server, Katy asked how it was, and I answered "it's a religious experience - nothing short of amazing". Â That's the truth.
The ambiance and environment in this place is amazing. Â The food and drink is incredible. Â I would recommend this place at any time of day. Â We were in there for a good 4 hours, and when we left, the bar was 3 deep and all the tables in the dining room were full. Â I can tell why. Â Get there early, get some drinks and food. Â You won't regret it. Â I don't give out 5-star reviews lightly. Â This place deserves it. Â It's a hidden gem.
I tried this place the other night with a few friends and I was impressed. I had the short rib shepherds pie and it was delicious!! All of the food coming out of the kitchen looked great. I also had the seasonal sangria and it had a great punch to it. It has a cute atmosphere as well. I can't wait to come back.
Review Source:This place is excellent they have alot of your typical pub/comfort food but they also have some interesting twists on favorite dishes. Be prepared to wait a little bit  for a table on Fridays/Saturdays as they get pretty busy - but it's worth it. Even with as busy as it gets the service is pretty attentive and the waitstaff is very helpful.
I have brought different types of people here from my fiance, to my friends and co-workers and they all love it. Check out the deserts too. Me and my fiance went last Friday and we had blueberry cheesecake with what tasted like a fruity pebble crust. Awesome!
Their motto is "Unleashed Atmosphere". It couldn't be further from the truth.
This place is straight up boring. At least when I went on a Sunday afternoon for football. I felt like if I talked too loud someone would shush me. The bartender had about as much personality as a telephone pole, which didn't help the situation.
I really wanted to try the pretzel and cheese app. It was damn near $8, ridiculous for some pretzels but whatever. Of course they were out. Â We ended up getting nachos. They were good, especially the cheese sauce they were topped with. We didn't venture any further into the menu as I was really just there for apps, a few drinks and some football watching.
I just really couldn't stand it. I felt like I was drinking in an Olive Garden. Â This place needs to decide if its a fun bar or a sit-down restaurant. Its definitely not a fun bar as of right now. Â Maybe if the bartender was allowed to actually have a cocktail she would loosen up and not be such a downer.
I'm sure most of the food is decent. Unfortunately I was there for more than that and they just didn't deliver.
I doubt I'll be going back.
Went here on my lunch break today with my grandmother.
To start, when you walk in for lunch there is a hostess station right at the door, no one was there so I was a bit confused. Apparently I was to turn left and seat myself. There was also a strong smell of cleaning products, possibly bleach when I walked in. However, I will put up with these minor issues because they had only been open for about 10 minutes before we walked through the door.
Our waitress was ok but I could tell she was new. My grandmother ordered the Mediterrenean Hummus Pita with no pepperocini and I got the rueben with fries. As I only have an hour for lunch break, I was getting a bit nervous when it hit 12:35 and my food had not arrived yet, but it arrived a few minutes later and I had time to eat until I was full. Not the best reuben but not the worst either, could've used some more corned beef though, and the fries were awesome. My grandmother's pita had pepperocini on it, so that was a bit annoying considering we asked specifically for them not to put it on.She had the house chips with her pita and they were very good.
All in all, I'd go again but it hasn't won me over yet. I'm thinking next time I'll go for dinner, after they have been open a few hours.
LOVED it here!! My boyfriend and I live a good 45 minutes apart, so we always bicker about what is exactly halfway for us to meet in the middle on our date nights. After searching and searching, I came across Blackies. Exactly halfway inbetween us, and the reviews on here made us want to try it out!
As soon as we entered, we were greeted and seated immediately outside, as we requested. The inside, as we walked through, is very nicely decorated and clean. It has a full bar as well as indoor seating. The outdoor seating was great! Typical outdoor metal table and chairs, an electric candle in the center of each table, tube lights and chinese lanters hanging above, as well as a kind of terrace feel with intertwined sticks and flowers that climbed up the sides. Gorgeous outside and perfect to watch the sunset!
Our waitress, Jane, was amazing. She was kind, patient, and extremely friendly. She even asked us our names AND remembered them. I can't remember the last time a waitress asked me my name or even cared. Jane was very knowledgeable on each menu item, giving us her full, detailed opinion on each dish. Upon one of her reccomendations, we started off with the buffalo nacho dip. And it was AMAZING. Pulled chicken in a creamy buffalo sauce with homemade, fresh chips. They were still hot! It was so delicious that we even took the rest home!
Next was our meals. I got the Baked Haddock which was covered in olives, tomatoes, and artichoke hearts! YUM. It also came with a side of sweet potato fries, my favorite! The food was delicious and you could tell it was all fresh. My boyfriend got the (I don't remember the name).. but some kind of steak sandwhich with buffalo sauce and a bunch of other things in there. He LOVED it. We stayed for a little while after dinner for a few beers. Jane was extremely attentive and helpful and didn't mind us hanging out for a little bit.
Overall, GREAT place. Â We will definitely be back!
I came here with a friend about a month ago but I've heard they've changed up the menu so I'm not sure how much help I'll be. Â The place is a decent size... plenty of tables and seating at the bar. We grabbed two chairs at the bar and were greeted by the very friendly bartender. I ordered a few glasses of prosecco (my fav) and my friend ordered some beers. For our food, I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the basic salad. Not too bad for a salad, though. The veggies were all very fresh, dressing was delicious. What really impressed me though, was my friend's entree. He got the breakfast sliders. Two mini burgers with a fried egg on each and this delicious maple infused mayo. The best part? They came with two mini coffee milkshakes. SO GOOD!!!!!! And might I add, so adorable. I'll definitely come back and try out some things on the new menu. Great food, great service.
Review Source:LOVE this place. It popped up during my Junior year while I was at Bryant. The food is SO good. Anything you order is going to be amazing. I love their salads, they are delectable and always good to take home.
The service is a little slow, I just want to caution you. Their sangria is GREAT!
I have never been treated so well in Smithfield before. Â We held my fathers coralation brunch here after his funeral. Â I'm not sure if we were the first one they've ever done or not, but they handled the situation AMAZINGLY! Â The food was beyond good (it was a customized buffet, where the food was all hot and moist, and never stale like most buffets), the service was above and beyond what I'm used to in Smithfied...100% pure class. Â And it was extremely resonably priced at that.
Beer and alcohol was on point with other establishments in RI, and glancing over the food menu, made me hungry again. Â Can't wait for my next visit, we'll definately be going back.
Great great job!
An interesting off-the-beaten-path sports burger bar with an off-the-beaten path kind of menu.
What they lack in ambiance and convenience, they make up for with super good burgers and interesting and unusual menu items. On a recent, busy Friday, I had a delicious apple burger that included bacon, cheese and maple mayo on a pretzel roll -- not something I've seen anywhere else, and was happy to see it served with homemade English pub-style fries -- a personal favorite. Even the RI-style calamari we ordered as an appetizer was pretty darned good, too. The only true negative were my wife's onion rings (or should I say onion Frisbees) which were so large they fell off the plate (which she wouldn't had minded so much if the thick, heavy batter hadn't been flavorless.)
The place certainly has some negatives -- it's small, a bit noisy when busy, and has way too many TV's. But the food is good and unique, and despite these minor drawbacks, you'll enjoy the visit.
I am torn between 3 stars and 4 stars so I am just going to call it 3.5 stars. The food and bar is 4 a the speed/service is the 3 and the price is alittle high. Since the restaurant was taken over by their new executive chef, I have been here twice (both ironically over the past week and half). Both times the food was really good. The first time I had the meatloaf sandwich which is very good, the pretzel roll adds just enough sweetness to it. Do not get this if you do not want to be messy. The next time we came we just got appetizers. The Junkyard nachos which had a ton of delicious pulled pork. We also got the breakfast sliders (beef patty with egg, cheese, bacon, home fries with a maple mayo). The breakfast sliders have a nice taste (again messy) and they are served with a coffee shake shot (nonalcoholic) which is a nice pallet cleanser.
Overall it is a good place to come after work for some appetizers and reasonably priced drinks. I have not had any bad food here and the menu has alot of diversity. The kitchen could be a little faster though.
