Came from Milwaukee to go to Blarney Island on a Saturday night. We ate at the restaurant (Port of Blarney) first and if you eat there you get to hop on the shuttle to Blarney Island for free.
The boat ride to the Island was fun. You get a nice view of the lake. The bar itself was pretty awesome. It is decorated to look like a "Key West" bar and it really does look like one. It is decorated with fake palm trees, torches, tiki huts. It's also good because it's so large that it's not too crowded. There is a variety of people here, young and old and lots of bachelor/bachelorette parties. When we 1st arrived they had a DJ playing music and then a live band came on.
I give this place 3 stars because the bathrooms are disgusting...doors don't lock, toilet paper everywhere and just very dirty. However, if you're drunk enough you probably won't mind too much. Also, one of  the bartenders was really cranky.
All-in-all we had a great time. This place is definitely something different and unique and you won't find any other place like it in the area. Check it out!
While boating around the Chain of Lakes we heard many people tell us that we needed to stop by Blarney Island if we wanted to have some fun. We were kid free and thought why not. The weekend we were there, they had their Blarneygras party going on. Â We pulled our boat into one of their many available slips. Hoped out and went to join the fun. There were bands playing, people (mostly girls) dancing and drinks flowing. Â Let's not forget beads being tossed.
This Island bar is done up to be reminiscent of a bar in the Florida Keys. Bright colors, island atmosphere, etc. The indoor bar area is more like a frat bar I used to frequent in college. Hanging from the ceiling is many different bras and panties. From the look of some of them they've been there for a LONG time. To be honest, it also looks like no one has bothered dusting or cleaning in up there so some of them look rather disgusting with layers of filth on them. Not that it would stop me from going back.
We ate there; the food is typical bar fair. Nothing all that great, but still edible. I had the pulled pork sandwich and I thought it was okay. Yes, I've had better, but this place obviously wasn't created to be a gourmet restaurant. Â The drinks were decently priced for location and the bartenders were very friendly. The waitresses... well they were kind of slow. When we were sitting in the outdoor area we ended up going up to the bar to get our own drinks, it was just faster and easier.
Overall we enjoyed ourselves for the couple of hours we were there. There was a mixed crowd. Â Your 20 somethings all the way to people that had to be in their 60s. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and that's what was important. I don't know if I would take a minor here, but if you are on the chain of lakes, it's a good spot for some fun.
