UPDATE (5/11/13):
The Cafe part of Blue Hill Lodge & Cafe still cannot get food out of the kitchen in a reasonable time. I brought my mother and father to grab a quick meal. My Mother and I ordered deli sandwiches for dinner and my father ordered fish & chips. There were two other groups there (two groups of 3). It took over 45 minutes from the time we ordered to the time we received our food this is dinner on a Saturday night (Gordon Ramsey would disapprove). We could have drove into Liberty and ordered food and got it in the same amount of time and honestly in the future that is what we will do. I both live and work very closely to this establishment and will be directing my guests to better establishments that are a bit further away. Very disappointing. The sandwiches were good, the fish and chips were triangle fish sticks (way over charged for them as well), again, very disappointing.
This place is great. Â Every time my friends and I go here the lady that runs the place hooks us up with excellent imported Russian beer they always have stocked (check the fridge) and free tastes of imported sausage. Â As reflected in the other reviews, the deli menu is also pretty strong for being way up in God's country (i.e., Denning and Claryville). Â This is best (only) place to stop on your way back from a hike in Slide Mountain Wilderness or a ski at Bellayre. Â However, the best experience is to sit out on the picnic table on a warm summer day with a cold beer and take in the surrounding mountains.
Review Source:For a beautiful upstate town that doesn't have much, Blue Hill Lodge has everything you would need. From dining to lodging, this place has it all. Â I stopped by this place with my boyfriend while on a weekend vacation in Claryville- we were not disappointed. Â Food wise, this place has everything and anything. From a traditional American burger to a home-made Russian dish, Blue Hill Lodge has something for everyone. Â
Not only do they provide the perfect satisfaction for your hunger but they have a connected wine and liquor store as well - which is hard to find in this county. Â Along with a small convenience store filled with necessities, this one stop has everything you may be looking for. Â If you need a spot to stay, they have a lodge with clean, comfortable beds and very well kept rooms. Â I even heard that they have a suite which is something I would be interested in for next time if available.
The staff is great and welcoming. You can't help but feel like you are part of the family once you walk in. Â They know a lot about Claryville and are very helpful when you want to know about what's around, which is a plus. The prices are very fair and very reasonable for what you are given. All in all, this place is a must-go if you are in the area. Happy trails!
Overall, the experience at Blue Hill Lodge was excellent. The rooms are cozy and exceptionally clean. I loved the lodge's remote location which provides an unimaginable tranquility. The food and service is very homey, made fresh to order. So expect a little bit of a wait; especially, when they're busy. In addition, the lodge has an extensive wine and spirit selection. It's practically a "all-under-one-roof-escape!" It can't be beat. Not for that price and that level of comfort and convenience.
P.S. the Russian dumplings are killer good!! The lodge offers a great deal of international food primarily, Russian.
