Bobby's Dry Dock has changed their menu. Â Gone are the Mexican options, and added are 'seafood' items. Â Bobby's used to be La Cantina, and the main thing going for the Mexican food at the former establishment is that it was only a mile from my house. Â It wasn't BAD; just mediocre, which I have come to expect in the Pacific Northwest. Â I only had Mexican meals from Bobby's three times: The fajita burrito once, and the taco salad twice. Â Both were good. Â I'm sorry to see the taco salad go.
As for the seafood... Â We ate there not too long ago. Â I had the Captain's Plate (clam strips, scallops, butterflied prawns, beer battered cod -- also calamari, but it is not listed on the menu), and my girlfriend had the prawn basket. Â We were not overwhelmed. Â These baskets of brown are obviously dumped out of a box that is obtained in the frozen food section of most supermarkets. Â And the calamari were 'logs' instead of rings. Â Not that I expect fine dining at a beachfront diner, but if I wanted frozen, breaded fish out of a box I can make that at home. Â (In actuality, if I were making it at home I'd make it from scratch.) Â So I cannot recommend the seafood. Â Sometimes cost-cutting goes too far.
So why the 'A-OK' three stars? Â Because Bobby's burgers are very good. Â So is the BLAT. Â I usually go for the bacon avocado cheeseburger. Â My girlfriend opted for the Mushroom Swissburger. Â Both of us agree that Bobby makes good burgers. Â I'm knocking the rating down from four stars to three because the seafood items were disappointing. Â But the burgers are still great.
We will be ordering from there again, and with some frequency. Â But we'll be getting the burgers and not the fish.
Bobby's Drydock.
Looking back, the name itself should have given me forewaring. Â "Dry" being that word.
We ordered a swiss mushroom burger at $8.95 to go. Â I understand, being at the beach, in a prime location to pay abit more for lunch/dinner. Â That being said, the meat of the burger was somehow cooked to the point that it was DRY, the outside burnt, and every bit of juice that ever existed was cooked out of it. Â The cow was creamated. Â I felt sorry for it. Â The burger was smaller than I expected as well. Â afew shreads of iceburg lettuce, tomato, abit of onion, afew sad mushrooms, "plastic" swiss cheese and mayo. The fries however were good, again however, they could have thrown afew more at me.
If you do go there I advise to get it "to go" the interior is not welcoming at all. Â The place needs a major overhaul. Â The outside got a coat of blue and red paint recently (GACK!) Â What an eyesore. Â The bar is what keeps this place in business.
I would have brought the burger back but at that point I was at home and did not feel like heading back to complain.
I wont be going back there anytime soon, which is too bad as I am a local and enjoy giving local business my money.
