As far as beer, this brewery tends to put out some things that aren't my favorite. Singletrack and Buffalo Gold are fantastic but the rest are misses in my book. However! Those two beers make this a solid brewery and one that I'm happy to visit.

I love this place because I can bring my dog to the outdoor patio, and drink awesome beer. It's right off the bike path, so it's an ideal brewery-tour spot. Also I think they have the best nachos in Boulder. You can add shredded pork, and you may end up requesting more chips because of all the toppings. Usually you have the opposite problem in most places! I like their selection, and always have some seasonals and nitro and cask options. Overall, great spot.

I'm just gonna say it, I love Boulder beer. They've got the best buffalo burgers in town. The brew house environment is amazing and the beer is awesome. Don't forget the Mojo IPA Mustard!

I have enjoyed a number of Boulder's beers throughout the years and was pretty excited to explore the source of the malty goodness I have imbibed - the brewpub did not disappoint. The bar, patio and the tour were all enjoyable. More importantly, so was the beer.

Brewery tours, unsurprisingly, tend to be pretty similar experiences from one brewery to another, but Ted did a good job of making the tour entertaining and educational. There was also plenty of samples to go around at the end due to the small tour group we had (or maybe I'm just less averse to drinking beer in the early afternoon compared to others).

Overall, a good place to throw back a pint or six, relax on the patio on a nice day or just to learn about one of the older craft breweries in the business.

    Beer Stop 11
    ---

Came here with the doggies after a hike in Boulder, CO. The patio is awesome and a great place to sit outside with your furry friend.

My girlfriend has always liked their Honey of a Saison and I enjoy their DIPA as well. It was good to go to their brewery just for kicks.

The food? Standard bar food. Nothing too great or special.

Yummy. Good beers, good food, reasonable pricing. Mmmm bacon! My gf and I split a pub burger betasso and a crispy chicken wrap. Both were good. Try the mojo risin IPA or double IPA. Very good beers and selection.

When I think of this place, I think of loud conversations, live music, and brownie sundaes. I know, beer should be in there too, but Husband is the beer guy.

I wasn't wowed by the interior - it seems like some of these rooms were after thoughts and not part of the original plan - and the food was ok.

I could see this being a really fun place on the weekends or at night in the summer.

Amazing beer. Big fan of the India Brown Ale. Great beer. Good people. Great pretzel. Stay away from the Sweaty Betty.

Had a few beers with co-workers here last night. Never been in here before and came across as a pretty neat place with a good selection of brews. The place was not loud and overbearing like some which was a bonus. Overall pretty cool place and would recommend trying if you have not been in.

We stopped here on our way from the Coors brewery (yes we took the tour so what!?)  to the Left Hand tap room. I had the bison burger and the hubby had a delicious looking chicken wrap. The highlight was the mint porter! I half way expected it to taste like a peppermint patty but it did not. It was a very smooth porter with just a hint of mint leaves on the back end. I told all my friends about it back home to make them jealous of my unique find! Another yummy surprise was their house made mustard. We doused everything in it. The vibe isn't as hipster as most of the places in Denverish area, more sports bar kinda but there were some dudes at the bar rocking some major facial hair and that was interesting to see.

Great patio and happy hour starts at 3 on Saturdays...which also means $2 tacos. Whoa, wait...2 buck tacos, happy hour craft beers, a patio...why not five stars, you ask?

Live music. Can't carry on a conversation. Give me the unplugged version, you get that star back. I will check back and see how another band sounds.

Y'all ever heard of a veggie chili with no beans? Yeah, me neither. Not a huge deal, I guess, but it's sort of representative of the whole only-just-okay-ness of Boulder Brewery.

So I'll be totally up front, Boulder Brewery was only on our list of breweries to check out on a recent trip to Boulder because other Yelpers said that the samples on the tour were generous. I'm cheap as fuck, and I'm okay with that. Of course, we visited a few breweries with better beer (Avery Brewing and Twisted Pine) first, so we were already several beers deep when we trekked over to Boulder Brewery. We arrived early to put our name on the list for the tour and shared a plate of fries and the aforementioned veggie chili. Okay, and a beer. (It was a truly epic day of drinking.) The food was fine, but nothing to write home about. The veggie chili had a great flavor--super spicy, but it was essentially just chilies, onion, and tomatoes in a broth. Our Planet Porter--one of the brewery's founding beers, but not one that's available in store outside of Colorado--was okay, but nothing special. To add insult to injury, the pour was a little skimpy. Our server was super lackadaisical and I wasn't a fan.

The tour was also just okay. So I'm no jingoist, really, I swear, but something about an American microbrewery tour being given by a super posh British boy who looks like he's fresh out of Eton just doesn't sit right with me. (Also, this exchange: A visitor asked how many varietals of hops the brewery used. The answer: Oh, lots of hops. Tons, really. How informative.) On the plus side, he was super cute. Still, I've said it once and I'll say it again, when I'm at a brewery, especially in a city like Boulder, I want a scuzzy, bearded, shaggy-haired dude who knows his shit breaking it down for me. Among the whole operation, it really just seems like the passion for good beer just isn't there.

But here's the redeeming factor: Y'all didn't let me down, good Yelpers of Colorado, and the samples did indeed flow like the Boulder Creek after snowmelt. This definitely isn't one of my favorite breweries, but if you're going to set me loose on a bunch of pitchers, I'm a happy girl.

PS - To the folks at Boulder Brewery, I'll give just one small bit of advice. Ditch the mass retail sign that says 'please wait to be seated.' You know, the one that's also used at Chili's, and Outback, and other bastions of mediocrity. Simple, but it will totally improve the bland, uninspired atmosphere of your brewpub. Anyway, thanks for the free beer.

LOVE this place. Great beer and fun vibe. Definitely get the fish tacos, they are amazing. And on Saturdays, all tacos are on special- $2 for regular tacos and $2.75 for fish tacos. The green chile is really, really good too. And the tour is also really fun and informative (and free tastings at the end!!!).

First and foremost I will start this review by stating that Boulder makes some of my favorite beers. I often give credit to them for turning me onto IPAs (thank you Mojo). Prior to my Boulder Beer Brewery visit, I had also tried Hazed and Infused, Sweaty Betty, and Obovoid. Aside from some really cool sounding beer names,  BBB is a trip worth taking.

We arrived at the brewery around 1:30PM for their 2:00PM tour. We sat at the bar and  tried what was on tap. I tried the Kinda Blue-blueberry wheat beer and my gf had the Planet Porter. Both were very good and were only $3.25 each! We then proceeded to take the tour, given to us by one of the brewmasters. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and ended in the tasting room.

Unlike NJ (where you are only allowed a maximum of 4 4oz. servings of beer), Boulder provided us with a long table with a pitcher of just about every beer they had on tap at the time. Needless to say, I tried every one of them and gained some bragging rights to use in the presence of my beer snob friends back home in NJ.

After our generous sampling, we proceeded to have lunch. I ordered the Pub Burger w/bacon, cheese, and bbq sauce and Mojo on Nitro (gotta go out with a bang). My gf ordered a turkey burger. Needless to say, EVERYTHING was awesome including the staff, food, beer, and tour. I even purchased some of their Mojo Risen-a double IPA to bring back home. I highly recommend coming to Boulder Beer Brewery if you are ever in Boulder!

My cousin was looking for houses in Boulder one Sunday so I drove up and met her up for lunch. I know we are truly related because when I asked her what she was in the mood for food wise she responded, "I like breweries"

Enter in Boulder Beer Company, Colorado's First Microbrewery. I like to think of it as a sign of good things to come that both the brewery and I have been around since 1979!

The inside dining portion was a little smaller than expected but that's where we went since the outfdoor patio was packed. Even inside we could hear the band that was jamming outside so that awesome since it was loud but not too loud. We asked for a flight of beer but our server told us they don't have flights with selected beers however they have a tray sampler with every single beer on tap. We went with that thinking surely it couldn't have been that many.

    Oh how I was wrong!

There ended up being about 14 generously sized samples. So generous that my cousin and I couldn't even finish the tray which is a defeat I've never experienced before and kind of feel weak even admitting (hindsight though is 20/20 because I was just entering the stages of a viral infection). Like sushi when it comes to beer I'm a firm believer in the motto no man left behind and it was sad that we left some beers barely untouched. We ordered food as well and all of it was great, I got a southwest chicken wrap and it was huge served with a heaping portion of hot fries. We walked out for under $30 and that is a huge feat, I thought two meals and a tray of beers were going to be more. Can't wait to stop by here again!!

The food here used to be a 4-1/2. But over the last 18 months it's dropped to a 3. No idea why but it went from really good to OK. With that said, it's not bad (except for their fries which are now awful), it's just not better than your average brew pub.

The service is always nice and the beer is really good. Especially the Single Track.

I CANNOT believe that I didn't know where this place was until now. I can tell I'll soon be a sorta regular to this establishment. First of all I LOVE Boulder Beer, but to drink it at the brewery (rather than from a bottle) is a divine experience.

I ordered the barley burger covered in cheese and jalapenos and it was very hearty and super yummy yum. I think they should consider doing different fries though, because these ones weren't very special just thin cut fast food style fries - probably from frozen. Would like to see some thick-cut pub chips instead or something. But that's just a personal thing.

Our server was super duper nice and funny. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual.

I think this is the perfect spot to hit after a day of snowboarding or hiking. You can bet I will be doing that again.

Dropped by at 11AM the other day with a friend to sample some brews. And eat?

They had about 15 different beers on tap, with a huge variety of styles as well as different versions of their normal offerings. Always try the cask version of whatever you normally get. Where else can you get it?

The food menu is varied and reasonably priced. The fries are surprisingly good...the right amount of crisp, oil taste, and salt. I'd almost go back just for those.

My only complaint is that they don't seem to have a variety of different glass sizes. We ended up getting a sample of each beer (sample tray), which was cool, but I am not really interested in Hefeweizens, especially not in January.

Definitely a great lunch stop or brewery to sample. Bring your buddies or drink alone; they do have TVs

Great place for after work dinner & beers!

This place is in an industrial area, so you may get a bit confused trying to find it. But, once you're there, there's plenty of parking.

BBB is pretty crowded on a Friday evening. I'm thinking it might be a bit better in the summer when you can sit outside. But, we found a teeny table in the bar area for our merry revelers during the Twelve Drinking Days of Xmas. My turkey pesto sandwich was great and you can't go wrong with pints of Boulder Beer. I love the MoJo, but then again, I would be a bit partial to that one ;)

I love this place! We just moved to Boulder, and this is already our favorite hangout. The patio outside is great to take advantage of the Boulder sunshine, and you can take your dog out there as well. They have amazing beers that often aren't around for long, so there are always new and fantastic choices. Currently, the Mortimer (which is a blend of an IPA and a stout in a Bourbon barrel) is the best dark beer I have ever tasted. It has so much flavor and is really smooth.

The live music and events they have here are also fun for everyone, and the tour is worth doing if you are interested in learning about how they managed to make a beer that tasty.

It's not the best location if you want to visit other places, but it does have a nice charm about it.

Their back-patio is quaint, especially when they have live music, and equipped with a little doggy hangout. I wasn't that impressed with their drink specials during happy hour, but they did have some tasty food.

Sat at the counter, got prompt service. Dudes treated me like a regular off the bat. I like that.

I would place this place at about a 3.5, BUT, as I had my food, a Nebraska-sourced buffalo burger with a teriyaki-pineapple flare, which was quite tasty, I got to watch tons of beer being bottled and brewed right in front of me. Beer bottles runnnin' down the line, gettin' capped, and boxed and shipped. If I lived in Boulder, I probably wouldn't go here every week, but if you're passin through, don't pass Boulder Beer Brewery up.

I'm surprised by the bad reviews on food from a few people.  I've never had a bad lunch here, ever, and I'm sure I've been here over a dozen times.  The turkey reuben is great, and the Buff Burger is the best I can find in Boulder!  Juicy, cooked to perfection, huge, and every bite made me want to say "mmmm".  Seriously!  I've also had the Santa Fe style chicken salad, and it's tasty!  I'm usually the type of person who likes to try lots of things off the menu, but I now have to have that Buff burger almost every time (bison).

I give them 5 stars because the food is good for BAR food in that it is never too salty or greasy, and because on Mondays and Tuesdays you get a WHOLE PINT of beer with your lunch for a mere 50 cents!  That's right, almost like a free beer.  I always make sure to go on a Mon/Tues.  I get GREAT service, tasty beer for next to nothing (I usually get whatever's on nitro) and really yummy sandwiches.  It's just a great place to grab a bite and a brew or two!  And, the large patio is so nice on a warm day...love it.

Swung in here on our friends suggestion while visiting Boulder and won't be back.

I've had one run in with Boulder Beer before and that was there Killer Penguin Barleywine which was awful and once I remember that I knew this couldn't be good.

We ordered a sampler plate which was just ok but nothing special.

I had whatever their pale ale was and while not horrible was not impressed at all. Everyone else had something different and no one really liked what they ordered. I'm not really sure how these guys stay in business when there are so many better breweries in Colorado and even Boulder.

Southern Sun (in Boulder) only takes cash, and you wait a LONG time to get served.

Avery is very hip, but the beers taste too sharp.

Boulder Beer: We go here after work every "Beer Friday".  The patio is large and open, with Hops growing on the lattice.  Pick a few and eat them for a snack!

The Good: Fresh beer menu changes often, but we stick to Singletrack, fresh Porters, or one of the infused IPAs.  The Chicken Nachos are great!

The Bad: If you get there past 5 p.m., you could have trouble finding a seat.

The Ugly: Uhhh . . . some Boulderites don't shave--you know who you are ladies!

Two star ratings mean "Meh. I've experienced better," and that's exactly how I feel about this place. Props for the good beer and dog-friendly patio- but the food is not worth the time, money, appetite.

I went here last night to celebrate- my sprits were high- but after the lousy service and blah food, I won't be going back. It was a downer.

And if I'm going to splurge on calories, it better be for something good. Am I right? Can I get an A-MEN?!

I love to check out new breweries and Boulder Beer is a good one if you're doing the Colorado brew tours.

I met up with friends for Trivia night Wednesday, my first time here.  I really enjoyed it.

    First, beer.

Great beer and I did try many a few.  It's a brewery, smells like a damn fine brewery as you walk in the front door.  The brewmaster[s] were concocting a recipe with the stereo blasting and a bit of dancing as they were cleaning the equipment.  I see this as a love for the product, visually makes me smile.

    Second, food.

Great menu.  Veggie friendly and also very accomodating for the meataterians.  Everyone at the table ordered something I would like to have tried.  You will be satisfied here.

Also, the trivia is REAL. [No beer chugging wall, no loud music, no iPhone cheaters...REAL stuff here.]  The host reads the questions at your table and if you need a re-read, he makes sure you hear the question.  I really enjoyed this format and along with the beer, I will be coming back here even though I live in Denver.

This place makes me happy. Well beer makes me happy, and the smell of beer brewing just puts me over the edge.
This place has GREAT happy hour deals for their stellar brews. Be sure to ask if they have anything that's cask conditioned or on nitro, as this beer is sure to be extra extra awesome.
With all the places to drink and eat pub food in boulder, this place is a gem because it is tucked out of the way of the general craziness, and you have to know it's here, you can't stumble across it.

For pub/brewery food I was pleasantly surprised. I'm always excited to get buffalo/bison, and the bastille additions were tasty!

If you are a lover of fine brews and pretty good pub food, this place is worth checking out.

**Review only for beer and tour**

I haven't eaten here but I sure have had some beers! Its not summertime with out some Sweaty Betty. Cool, crisp, fresh, its one of my favorites. I'm not a huge fan of some of the other beers that are super hoppy, but I love this Boulder establishment.

It was part of my bike and drink brewery tour that happened every couple months. I love it!

You can find these beers at most Boulder estabs.... but check out the brewery once. its a good time.

The food here is so mediocre, which is a shame because they have amazing beer.
Just buy their beer, but don't bother eating here.

I ordered a veggie burger, because the way it was described on the menu it sounded home made (something to the effect of "whole mushrooms, barley, etc. lovingly ground down and made into a scrumptious vegetarian patty")  But when my food came, it was a frozen Garden Burger on a Wonder Bread Bun.

And the fries we're described as "pub fries," which makes me thing of yummy, home made fries...but the fries were frozen McDonald's style fries.

Like everyone else said, the beer is great!

As mentioned by others, it's a split here. The beer is excellent, Mojo on nitro, truly a creamy, hoppy delight. But the food really is pretty average. It's edible, particularly after a couple of beers, but it's not what I'll be coming back for.

A note, one of the reviewers below mentioned that Boulder Beer is owned by Rock Bottom. This isn't true. Walnut Brewery, which sucks, is owned by Rock Bottom.

They offer tours at 2 pm Monday through Friday, and we went on a Friday. They bill themselves as Colorado's first microbrewery, and they've got some really good history. Our tour guide, Sara, knew her beer lingo and had funny stories. Sometimes when you get a tour by someone other than the brewer, their tours tend to follow a pretty boring script but Sara wasn't like that.

As for samples go, they have been the most generous of every brewery I've toured so far. They don't skimp on letting you try every single on of their brews, which they serve to you in pitches!

Didn't try the food, so can't offer anything to that regard.

What can you say? It's pub food. The main focus of a pub is not typically on its food, and that is the case here. Beer is an ingredient in many of the dishes, would you expect anything less?

Like Nick W. said, the meat in the sandwiches is often dry and the food in general usually falls into at least one category: too bland, too salty, too greasy. They could definitely do better but people come here for the beer, and apparently it's good enough to keep them coming back, so they aren't likely to fuss about it.

Hubby's Frisbee team loves to come here after matches and I can tell you the place gets packed! If I hated the place I would just go home, but the food is fair enough to munch sitting around the patio.

No comment on the beer. I think all beer tastes (I imagine) and looks like cow pee.

All the beers in Boulder County are so good, it's hard to pick a best. Let's just say that there are A beers and A+ beers, and Boulder Beer (formerly Rockies Brewing, formerly Boulder Beer [the first time]) is in the latter grouping. They used to make an amazing brown ale that unfortunately they quit making. They also used to make a cool beer called Singletrack. I miss both those beers.

That said, there are so many great beers that they still make that are quality, you won't find it hard to make a selection. Hazed and Infused is a classic, and, I believe, the beer that launched their "Looking Class" series of specialty brews.

Adding to the coolness of this place is the fact that they have a great little pub with good food. One year, during football season, they made these specialty pint glasses shaped like footballs. For a pint of the specialty brew you got the beer and the glass. I still use that glass.

A major split here - the beer gets 5 stars, but the food is really on the lousy side - 2 stars at best.

Boulder Beer is the oldest microbrew in Colorado, and certainly still one of the most popular, though they might not qualify as micro anymore.  Tons of options, seasonal favorites, alcohol and bitterness scores on the wall to help you select, and they're all tasty.

The food is another story - the menu is all over the map, which is kind of typical for local pubs, but they don't seem to do anything well.  Salads are boring and bland.  Sandwiches of overcooked, dry meat come on particularly bad bread.  Appetizers won't get you appetized.

A bit of a shame - there are some great pubs in boulder (southern/mountain sun, walnut brew pub, west end tavern), so it's too bad the guys that make our namesake beer couldn't make better food.  Boulder Beer is owned by the Rock Bottom Restaurant chain, which owns plenty of fine restaurants, so it's a bit of a mystery.

Oh well, it's usually crowded, and everyone seems to enjoy it there, so perhaps they can just keep coasting on the beer!
