I grew up and went  to school in Cambridge. This was the spot for chicken. A lot of people still love it. I think the flavor has changed since the remodel. They added a bar where you can get a real drink now. If I remember right it was only a 3.2 beer joint before.  I don't think Donna changed the recipe so maybe they added a new broaster that's not as seasoned? I have no problem meeting girlfriends at the Brass Rail for lunch.
Review Source:Great broasted chicken, hot fried potatoes, (actually broasted like the chicken) fresh coleslaw paired with ice cod beer served in a frosted mug. Â The service is fast and friendly. Â The place is a cute and cozy, complete with fireplace and warm wood work. Â And better yet, the prices, this is serious good value! Â If you're looking for seeds, sprouts and tofu don't bother. Â However if you're looking for hot delicious food from the fryer and served up at a place that makes you think you have just walked into an episode of "Cheers" well you have come to the right place.
And personally, I have no problem with plastic forks, isn't chicken meant to be eaten with your fingers?
This place will blow up your arteries.  With dinner you should also get a coupon for a quadruple bypass.  The chicken was ok, but really greasy and salty.  Everything else is deep fried and there was no flavor.  The only dipping "sauce" was either ketchup or Hidden Valley ranch salad dressing.  On a  positive note, they don't pretend to be something they're not. Prices are low and they use paper plates and plastic silverware.
Review Source:The ONLY place to go for Broasted chicken! Â It's amazing, a true mouthgasm! Â The coleslaw is the only slaw I will eat, simply awesome!! Â VERY packed weekend nights, but worth the wait. Â Most of the staff is helpful, friendly, and quick! Â Kathy is the best waitress they have, if you can, sit in her section! Â Rod is always awesome as well! Â If the owner (original, now co-owner) is there, she has lots of great stories to tell and will sit down at your table and just shoot the breeze. Â Typical old school small town. Â Been going there for as long as I can remember, simply the best Broasted chicken, slaw and a price that can't be beat! Â Make sure to get the broasted potatoes, they are amazing!!! Â
It's a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, so expect a little bar, but cute with the remodel. Â I perfect drive from the burbs, or even the Cities. Â Well worth the drive, but if driving at night, watch out for the deer!
I drive by the Brass Rail every time I go to my cabin, yet it's been nearly 10 years since I stopped in for their famous broasted chicken. That all changed last week when a friend and I went on a mission for broasted chicken. We were rewarded - juicy, succulent, rich, tasty chicken. The slaw was good too, and the broasted potatoes were an old-school comfort food, but it's the chicken that sings. Ridiculously reasonable in price, full menu, a bit of a dive (but a vast improvement post-remodel) but in a non-seedy way.
Go there. Order chicken. Experience greasy food coma. Yum.
