I'm sure the good reviews on here are valid but the experience I had was WAY LESS THAN STELLAR!
Let me start at the beginning....
1st.... I order a beer. The beer keg is tapped so they bring me the half beer that came from the keg. They offer to replace it and I order a different beer. (More to this part of the story later)
2nd.... I order the $30 New York steak med rare. It shows up med well / well. I send it back for a refire thinking ill get a new steak within 7-10min. No biggie right?? WRONG!
3rd.... The manager comes over wanting to make things right and apologizes for the incorrectly cooked steak and offers to take it off the bill. A very nice gesture and it was appreciated very much... (At that moment).
4th... Over the next 20-30min several different waiters / waitresses "check" on us and each time leave saying they are going to check on where my steak is.
5th... After 30min of waiting (NOT KIDDING) and watching my friends stuff their face smiling from from being full of "delicious" food, I get up and find the manager in charge and inform her I STILL have not received my food and I'm "done" waiting and want to leave. She acted "astounded" that I still hadn't received my food and immediately scurried off to find out what went wrong.
6th.... Our waitress comes back to the table OVERLY APOLOGETIC saying that they are now making my steak "to go"! Really?! A Med Rare $30 steak "to go"?! C'mon....
FINALLY..... We get the bill, and sure enough my steak is not on the bill. Great. BUT... I was still charged for the 1st beer that was .75 MORE than the beer they replaced it with?! Not a big deal... But when you as all this up just the icing on a horrible experience cake!
Overall I'm sure it's a nice place.... Maybe. But the experience I had.... Â I WON'T BE BACK!
The A.V finally got a good Steakhouse! Ordered the 20oz Steak and it was delicious, excellent flavor, tender and juicy, even the baked potato had excellent flavor. For desert we had chocolate chip bread pudding and it was also exceptional. Both the manager and owner came by our table to ask how we liked the food during our visit! Looking forward to my next steak at Broken Bit.
Review Source:We LOVE this place!!!
We also stumbled across finding it looking online for somewhere to eat and are glad we did.
We listened to the reviews about getting there close to 4:30 and saw why..It gets packed quick and its obvious why.
We have been here many times now that I think I've tried everything on the menu besides the steaks and have loved everything. There has been a few specials also that were great. Like the Cherry Sauce on the biggest Pork Chop I have ever eaten was soooo delicious. The Pablano Pepper is amazing.
This is a new fave of ours and will definatly be back many more times and highly recommend to go here.
Oh I forgot the service. We have yet to have bad service as well even as busy as it gets we are always attended to quickly.
What a bummer! Â This is my first less than positive review and it saddens me to have a less than positive review for this place. Â We had been looking forward to trying the Broken Bit for quite a while, in fact, my husband even texted me earlier in the day to say, 'Happy Broken Bit day'...I really really wanted to like it. Â I was so excited for a great steakhouse in our neck of the woods but was so let down that I apologized to my friend for taking her there. Â
The decor is adorable, seating comfortable, not too close, basically a nice atmosphere. Â If only the food and service matched. Â Our servers were busy but could have had less of 'doing you a favor' attitude. Â The wait for our food was long, close to 45 minutes, which wouldn't have been horrible if the food measured up. Â Our medium rare kebobs were very well done, dry and chewy...pork chop was big but lacked flavor, grilled caeser was pretty but lacking. Â Loved the onion straws and the onion soup but am really sad that those were the highlights of the experience. Â I don't mind spending money on a good meal, but just not thinking this is the place to do it.
Broken Bit Steakhouse kept coming up in my news feed on Yelp so I decided to read the reviews and give this new local restaurant a try. I'm glad I read the reviews and that is why I decided we arrive at the restaurant as close to the opening time of 4:30pm as possible. We in turn had no wait time to start our experience right. :)
This place is located on the NW corner of Avenue M and 50th Street West. Parking lot fits the size of the restaurant. You could easily miss this place as it kind of blends in. I wish the building made more of a statement and stood out more to match the inside of the establishment.
My husband and I walked in and we were greeted by a polite hostess that seated us right away. We got to choose booth or table and so we choose a booth.
The restaurant is smaller than we expected but very nicely decorated inside with booths or tables and a bar area with a couple televisions.
Our waitress was Amy and she was very welcoming and courteous to us.
I ordered the 10oz. prime sirloin with mashed potatoes and house vegetables along with an iced tea to drink. I ordered my steak medium and it came out perfectly along with my sides. The mashed potatoes did seem too garlicy for my tastes but I still enjoyed them.
My husband ordered the onion soup, sea bass with mashed potatoes and cooked spinach along with a strawberry lemonade to drink. He said he wasn't much of a fan of the sea bass since it was fried and it was a bit too salty. He will probably order a different side other than the mashed potatoes on his next visit. When we go back, he said he will ask them to prepare the sea bass differently or he will try another entree. The onion bit soup was fantastic and the strawberry lemonade was delicious but no free refills. They did offer to give him iced tea or pop to drink instead of just water as a refill. We thought that was nice but he declined since he just wanted to drink water.
For dessert we ordered creme brûlée and apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Both were delicious! I don't normally do this but the apple crisp was a lot better than Lemon Leaf's apple crisp (more for your money in my opinion but same great quality of Lemon Leaf). I enjoy both restaurants and will continue to frequent them both but if I had to pick between the two, Broken Bit Steakhouse hands down for the apple crisp.
We did notice that it got busy around 5:30pm, by 6:00pm there was a decent wait time so try and arrive before those times. Our service did seem to decline as the restaurant got busier so keep that in mind if you are in a rush or be prepared to wait a bit. I'm sure the kinks will get worked out once the newness of the restaurant dies down but for now, come early.
Overall, our experience was really good. My husband and I are from the east coast and we miss the lack of steakhouses out here on the west coast so this is a nice local addition to the community in the AV. I do wish for a happy hour menu sometime in the future, I can only hope anyway!
We will be back for sure.
Amazing food and great service...however, the wait time was way too long. I would have given it five stars, but since we were told an approximate 45 minute wait and instead waited over an hour.
Next time we decide to give this place another try, we will make sure to make reservations.
My Husband and I went in on Wednesday night. I must say the food was fantastic. The reason for only 2 stars is the service, it was horrible !!! Our waitress Kaylee was so rude and slow, she kept rolling her eyes, when  we asked about items on the Menu. Really aren't you in the business of customer service?? We asked for more water never got it. And soon after we got our food we never saw her again until she dropped the check, which was rude because we would of ordered dessert and maybe another glass of wine, But I guess she wanted us out of there???
I don't know if we will be back any time soon, maybe if she's not working. Sad when we were both pleased with the food. People go out to dinner for a reason, maybe to have a date with your husband or just to unwind from a busy work day or just really don't feel like cooking, but with a waitress that seemed bothered to serve us was disheartening. .
Nice atmosphere (Country theme) great people.
Mixed drinks were good but too pricey for the serving size (6oz of actual drink).
Steak and Pork Chop were great but 38 bucks for a 20oz rib-eye steak? A little too much for me.
Pork chop was out of this world and priced more reasonable.
Will go back but will not as a regular due to the prices. One visit cost 90.00 for party of 2 no appetizer and no desert, 1 alcohol drink
Suggestion, dress code for prices paying for products should be a little more dressy (shirts and shoes required) with tank tops not allowed.
Would expect to pay these prices at a tourist trap but not a local business.
Quality foods great presentation and friendly services.
We were SO surprised by this place. Â It was a spontaneous dinner and we sat in the bar area. Â Amber and Orlando are the BEST. Â The food was amazing. Â From the bread and warm butter to the drinks and the meals. Â We have found a GREAT steakhouse in the AV! Â Very highly recommended! Â Would recommend including some appetizers that are NOT on the "chain" menus (please). Â Also, if the owners of the place happen to be in the house, make yourself known. Â We would have liked to compliment our servers to the owners.
Review Source:Hubby and I went out to dinner tonight and tried out a new restaurant in the AV. Â There usually isn't a good steakhouse in the AV, in fact if we want a good NY steak, we'd actually go to El Toreo believe it or not and get their carne asada plate. Â The other choice is Foxy's, but the last couple of times we went there, we weren't impressed. Â We don't really like the corporate chain restaurants like Black Angus, Claim Jumper, Sizzler, Outback and so on... Well, tonight I'm happy to say that we've finally found a good steakhouse! Â It is called "The Broken Bit Steakhouse" in Quartz Hill. Â I have heard about it on Yelp and most of the reviews were pretty good, like some people actually have been there 2 or 3 times already and they have only been open 7 weeks!!! Â My husband is very, very hard to please when it comes to steaks and so when his 14 oz NY steak dinner came and he took the first bite, he was sold! Â I on the other hand ordered the 14oz rib eye and the first bite was heavenly! Â It was so tender it felt like it was melting in my mouth... Â Hubby got a margarita and that was pretty good too! Â You can tell if a margarita is not that good or not real easily, if the drink looks kinda clear to you, that means it's too diluted, that wasn't the case with the margarita he got tonight. We will definitely come back to eat here again! Â Even if it is way on the other side of town - we live on the east side of Lancaster and the Broken Bit is in Quartz Hill, on 50th Street West and Avenue M. Â We don't mind the distance at all, heck we are happy that the AV finally got a good steakhouse! Â We would usually have to go down below to Los Angeles and go to Tam O' Shanter in Los Feliz or to Lawry's or even Fogo de Chao in Beverly Hills.
Review Source:What a cute place! Kim was our waitress and did an amazing job! We loved the decor and the moment we walked in, everything smelled delicious!!
We started off with cocktails and beers -- the cocktails I had were LOTS of rum and pineapple juice. SO delicious! Cocktails are $9, but worth every penny. Definitely LOTS of alcohol in there!! Great!
Bread - Delicious. We got the string onions YUMMY!! Loved the presentation of the sauce and the sauce itself. SO GOOD!! Oh EM Gee!!!!!!!!
For dinner we had two more cocktails as well as salmon, veggies and mashed potatoes. Hubby had filet kabobs - DELICIOUS, friends had the also, it was delicious. We all shared and had a wonderful time. The steaks were cooked perfectly.
People leaving low stars should realize that this a new business working out the kinks. I honestly didn't think the prices were that outrageous. It's a nice place serving quality food and drinks -- why are you going to get all mad about the prices? The ambience, service, food and decor was awesome -- and it warrents 5 stars!
Please please learn how to cook a steak! I could tell when my fork touched the steak it was almost raw. I asked for medium rare. My husbands filet was hard as a rock on outside and rare inside he ordered medium. Everything else was great. Trouble is that was the most expensive part of the experience.
Review Source:The wifey and I have been wanting to come here since they opened and the stars finally alligned with a baby sitter and free night to spend with each other. They don't take reservations for parties of less than 7 so we knew that there would be a wait. 45 minute wait and we spent it at the bar. I ordered a Jack and Coke then looked at the drink menu and kicked myself in the butt for not checking it first. My wife had a cowboy something or other that was served in a mason jar and she loved it. After the Jack and Coke I had a Old Fashion and a Manhattan and the SCOUT Flight of whiskies it was delcious. Our bartender was Amber and she was on top of it and made a good drink.
AS you can imagine by the time we got seated I was pretty tipsy. We had the ahi stacker which was amazing. Wife had the Blue Bass (I think) and I had the 10 oz sirloin with bleu cheese topping. We were both raving about how good it was.
For those reviewers that didnt have a good time and compared Broken Bit to a Vegas steak house I think if you stayed up for 24 hours gambling Chili's Steak would be your favorite. We will be coming back here for our date nights for along time.
Also spoke to the owner Mike about the awesome decor and concrete sinks in the restrooms and he was nice enough to give me his builders name and number. (Brownie points on how he used someone local too)
This is why I am not a fan of YELP....Antelope Valley finally has an Upscale non-corporate restaurant making FRESH, delicious meals and people out here don't appreciate it. They would rather get their food from a corporate chain that takes pre-made food in bags and just heats it up.
I have eaten at some of the finest restaurants in the country and worked in the industry for many years as well and the food here at the Bit was outstanding all three times I have been there. Each time I have been there I have had a different steak, and so have the members of my party... and every single one came out, cooked perfectly. The apps were delicious, grit were amazing and those that had the chicken loved it as well.
The only problem I would say that stood out to me was the wait time to be seated (they were very busy) and the inexperience of the front of the house staff not being completely familiar with the menu, drinks and specials of the night. The wait service could be improved with more knowledge.
Please...take it from someone who knows their food. Eat at the Broken Bit, the steaks on the wood burning grill are to die for, the sides and apps are all great too, and anyone that thinks differently doesn't know their stuff.
I will continue to come back to the Bit and bring my friends and family. It's simply the best place to eat in the Antelope Valley.
My wife and I went and had dinner at the Broken Bit tonight. Â A nice new steakhouse in our area seems like a great idea. Â Â The place is nice inside, and although they're pretty busy, the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Â
My wife's "Red fish" dinner was actually not bad. Â The steak was the problem. Â I ordered the thing "Medium", and apparently they cooked it (like the movie "The Cowboy Way') "just knock its horns off, wipe its nasty ass, and chunk it right here on this plate. " Â
A steak place that can't cook a steak properly loses any sort of credibility from the word go. Â For $30, a steak better be cooked right. Â Â I think I'll be leaving this place alone. Â The funny thing is, prior to walking in, we asked some people leaving how the food was.. Â "Good Flavor, they just need to learn what Medium Rare means" was their response. Â It seems our messed up steak wasn't a fluke.
If they don't replace the guy cooking the steaks soon, they'll likely be another failed restaurant idea. Â Time will tell.
I have eaten here a few times now. The menu is great. Food is very good. The service is great. It's a perfect addition to QH. Â Their manager is a wonderful lady who has taken great care of us. They are also expanding an already good wine menu. The only draw back is the wait to get in, as many are coming out to try the new steak house! But it's worth it. The owner Mike is also usually there to greet and speak to the locals! Very happy with this restaurant.
Review Source:It's about time the Antelope Valley got a good steakhouse; for too long we've been stuck with chain places and haven't produced anything local that aspires to be more than a sub shop.
The ribeye was nicely done and well-seasoned. My wife had fish and it was moist and flavorful. The appetizers were good, and the drinks were strong and tasty. Didn't have the dessert because I was too full. There's an extensive wine list and the liquors are many of my favorite top-shelf brands. In particular, there's a good selection of tequilas and I enjoyed the house margarita.
Not all the kinks were worked out of the service when my wife and I went -- I ordered the bleu cheese topping on my steak and it didn't come. But then again, we were there within a week of the opening so I wouldn't expect that they'd figured out all the problems yet. We'll see if they've got these issues resolved as they accumulate experience when we go back.
I worry that a bunch of cheap-ass engineers and old farts won't support the place because it isn't Olive Garden. But I'll definitely be back and I hope others go again too.
I've been to Broken Bit twice now, and I think as a restaurant, they have a long way to go. The first time we went, they charged my credit card for another table's order- it took them over a half an hour to remedy the error. I didn't mind this as I went in knowing it was a new restaurant and that there would be kinks. All of our food was excellent- my wife's steak and my burger. I also tried the chicken tenders from my two boys' kid's meals, and those were good as well. Their homemade fries were very good. The service was slow that night, which I attributed to it being a new restaurant.
Well, we went back last week, and we waited 45 minutes for our food! I hate waiting that long anywhere, and they've been open for about a month. Many other people were waiting for their food, some getting partial orders, but no one was happy. The waitress just said they're, "backed up." This was beyond backed up. They got rid of the fries we liked and swapped them for shoe-string potatoes that tasted like they were just frozen and fried from a bag. The burger we liked had already gone up in price from our last visit. I liked the burger, but compared to others around town, $14 for a burger with bacon and cheese is just too much. On another note, my cowboy pizza was yummy- one of the best pizza's I've had in a long time.
I just don't think it's a good sign to see super long wait times, items being changed on an already new menu, and prices rising. I'll give this restaurant some time to get their entire act together before visiting again.
All the people who said they have eaten here and loved the experience are quite possibly paid to do so or the most biased people on earth.
The service is absolutely horrid and for the price, as someone mentioned before "i'd rather go to vegas"
The owner obviously doesn't care about anything but making money, which he's going to do a good job of by overpricing everything on the menu.
I'm struggling to justify the fourth star..... One of these stars is definitely just for being a non chain restaurant in an area overrun by mediocre suburban chains.  Another is for the rich decor which was brilliantly designed and  impeccably executed using local companies and material.  The food was decent, somewhat pricey but a grade above the other options around.  The service was warm, attentive and knowledgeable so a star for that alone.  The serious flaw here is in the kitchen.  It took an hour and a half to get entrees, and we arrived long before the dinner rush.  I don't mind waiting that long or paying that much for food that wows me, but this wasn't it. Pasta and salad were good and my table enjoyed their steak and burgers, but nothing outstanding, especially after waiting hungry for so long.  Our waitress was very apologetic and said there was a backup but at these prices I'd expect the manager to show up and offer a glass of wine or comp a dessert, which by the way was the least impressive part of the meal.  Is it wrong to expect all good restaurants to have creme brulé? All broken bit offered was an apple crisp, churros or ice cream.  Insert pouty face. This place just opened so I will try again in a few weeks and hopefully see improvements.  I think too much thought and effort was put into this place to let it fail and I keep my fingers crossed for privately owned local eateries, so I recommend they get a strong floor manager, some help in the kitchen and a few more options on the menu.  I really want to love it but the truth is if it were in LA I'd never go back.
Review Source:I'm not really a steakhouse gal, but friends had told me I had to try this new place, and we do the long drive between San Bernardino and the Bay Area once or twice a year, and good places to eat are in pretty thin supply, so we were eager to check this out. I was absolutely blown away!! Every detail, from food to decor to service was absolutely superb, simply not something I expected to find in the middle of the Antelope Valley. Not surprised therefore to find them pretty busy at 9pm on a Thursday night!
Here's the rundown of our meal:
* extensive wine, beer & cocktail list--my husband wanted beer, and all the local names were new to him. Tried the Green Flash IPA and loved it. I'm sure he would have liked to try them all!
* sourdough bread--better than your usual bread-basket fare--was so good I asked where it was from (La Brea Bakery)
* appetizers--I tried the grilled romaine caesar (fun presentation, different, tasty); my husband had the ahi tuna stack, which was outstanding. Delicious fresh ahi tuna, stacked with just the right ratio of avocado, onions, tomato and seasonings. Who would expect to find delicious fresh raw(!) ahi in the middle of the desert!?
* entrees--we didn't want to order big steaks, as had a lot of driving left to do, so he had the filet mignon kebabs, and I had the stuffed poblano chili, as several Yelpers had already commented on it. They cheerfully subbed veggies for the rice on my chili (you know how variable restaurants can be on substitutions--they were not only happy to accommodate me, but brainstorm on what I'd most like!). ALL the vegetables were cooked exactly as we do at home--just enough to not be crunchy-raw, but not a bit overcooked. Again, something I'm not used to finding outside of the best establishments.
Although we are big eaters and arrived really hungry, these meals totally satisfied us and we didn't even have room for dessert, just coffee for the road trip :)
A word about the decor--again, we asked about a few of the details, because the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming, and some of the details so unusual. Not surprising--they were mostly custom made by the owner-partners or various local artisans. You gotta check out the mirrors, the "broken bit" panel & light fixture, and the gorgeous sink in the ladies room! We will definitely be back! A strong 5-star rating all around.
My husband and I have been to The Broken Bit two times now. On both occasions we had great service and very good food. The staff is friendly, professional and made every effort to see that our dining experience was enjoyable. The decor is western style, perfect lighting, and has a small, intimate feel to it. The cocktail menu is fun with new and interesting drinks for adventurous imbibers. I especially liked the Island Cowboy which is a twist on the traditional Mai Tai. Lots of food choices and good wine. Just what Quartz Hill and the AV needed. Give it a try!
Review Source:I really wanted to like this place. Â Im sorry I really did!! Â But honestly the $30 rib eye I had was flavorless and under cooked (i asked for medium and it was darn near raw). Â I paid the extra $3 for the blue cheese topping and ended up scraping it off it tasted so terrible. Â Instead of being a butter/cheese mixture it was mostly just not very good blue cheese. Â
I will have to say that my daughter's fries were REALLY good and the grits werent bad either. Â (they were ok) but that was all I liked from the $100 meal. Â
Our waitress was very very sweet, but honestly just not on the ball either. Â She brought us drinks, and then let us sit there waiting for sweetners for well over 10 mins. Â This happened with just about anything we asked for. Â (a long wait)
Now for the AV this is probably pretty good standards, but since we go to vegas on a regular, I would rather just pay the higher price for steaks that are worth it.
Took the Family here for dinner last night it was amazing!!! The owner and manager both introduced themselves to us they were so sweet and very accommodating to our two girls...our youngest daughter ate two pieces of the quail (appetizer with grits) which is wonderful by the way... I'm so happy to have this restaurant in our wonderful town... It's a great family restaurant they have a great bar if you want to just come and have a drink... So happy to have something so great so close to home...
Review Source:I had high expectations, so I was disappointed. Even when i first walked in I had a good feeling. The place smelled like BBQ smoke. I assumed that was due to the oak wood grill they are said to use. The restaurant had a nice look and feel to it, all the staff was very very friendly, but those were the only highlights.
A quick list of the low-lights:
1) While the bar had an extensive list of speciality cocktails (usually a big plus in my book) the execution of the two I ordered was poor. They were too sugary, watered down, and my mojito tasted like it had spoiled lime juice.
2) All side items were bland and dry.
3) The steaks were "eh," and for a steakhouse that's a very big deal. My ribeye was well-cooked but could have used more flavor... Perhaps a dry brine. My guest ordered their signature sirloin, marinated for 24 hours in a whiskey BBQ sauce. It had a good flavor, but the sauce was a bit over powering. I prefer to taste my meat.
4) For dessert we ordered their donuts. I could tell that they would have been great, had they been fully cooked. They were wet and doughy in the middle.
Also, some would say that the food service was slow. But that isn't a big deal in my book. I like to take things slow.
In short, I have no desire to go back unless I am encouraged to do so.
We were so excited that a steakhouse came to Lancaster right around the corner so we decided to go for hubby's birthday, what a mistake! Â I ordered the 14 oz. ribeye prepared medium, not sure what cut of burnt steak was brought to the table but was very disappointed! Â Only took three or so bites and just couldn't stomach any more. My husband ordered the Range Boss which was supposed to be marinated for 24 hours in BBQ whiskey sauce, yah right! Both steaks were flavorless, no hint of any kind of seasoning. Â My sister in law ordered the Chipotle Cilantro cream fettuccine with chicken for another $3, she had to ask for additional seasoning to make it edible. Â When we complained the waitress came back and said they were willing to take off $15 of the cost of my steak. Â I did notice the owners visiting a few tables of the folks they obviously knew personally, passing over all other patrons. Â Just a suggestion: Â it would be a good idea to go from table to table and ask how everything was and introduce yourself. Â On a positive note: our waitress was excellent, the decor and ambiance was fitting for a steakhouse.
Review Source:OK, we're a little excited that a new restaurant has opened up in Quartz Hill that isn't part of a chain. Â So, we've eaten here twice already! Â First night we had the onion string app which was done to perfection. Â For dinner we had the chicken which was delicious and the roasted poblano which BLEW MY MIND! Â Amazing food and drink. Â Nice interior decor. Â This is the new spot to hang out in Quartz Hill!
Review Source:The Antelope Valley finally gets a real steakhouse!
As you know our valley has suffered from a lack of great restaurants for many years. Â With maybe one exception we have been relegated to the mediocrity of national chains. Â
Dinner last night was impressive enough to make this the new go to restaurant in Lancaster. Â This place has a real wood fired grill and they know how to use it. Â
Here is the rundown of our dinner:
The Oak Grilled Romain Ceasar was exceptional. Â Smokey crisp and enticing.
The French Onion Soup was dark and sweet with a nice crust of cheese.
The New York Strip was as good as you get at the best  in Vegas.
The Wood Grilled Salmon was a choice piece of fish perfectly cooked.
Chipotle Cilantro Cream Fettucine had a rich smokey sauce.
The vegetarian fare is impressive as well. The Roasted Poblano Pepper was surprisingly good.
They were kind enough to custom make a pizza for my child who at this stage of life fancies himself an expert in cheese pizza.
Bar is a real bar. Â A good selection of Bourbons and Whiskey, thoughtful cocktail menu, Draft Beers.
Did not do desert.
Prices were significantly less than what you might pay in Vegas for similar quality food.
