My wife and I stopped here after a hike on Mt. Rainier. Â We were starving, and the sign that advertised elk burgers drew us in. Â The staff was terribly nice, and the food was delicious. Â I've had deer before, but not elk. Â I enjoyed the flavor greatly. Â While we didn't enjoy any of the beers - we were pretty dehydrated - there were a few good beers on tap. Â It was ~ $30.00 for my wife and I. Â My wife, a grumpy diner normally, said she would definitely be back; I agree. Â I am curious about the wild boar burger.
Review Source:We stopped in on our way in from Elbe hills ORV park and were pleasantly surprised by the selection of food and beer here. The ambience was definitely casual as flannel and busy even on a weekday afternoon. We had tall IPAs and burgers and soup. The Soup was an amazing Garlic and vegetable, the burger was cooked perfectly. The proprietor of the establishment was on site and made his way around and asked people how they liked the food. I personally enjoy finding those rare places where the food and hospitality are emphasized. I will make it a point of visiting Bruno's every time I am in the area. Looks like a great place to catch a sports game too.
Review Source:Took the family here after a raining camping trip...part of our quest to find the 'hometown' goodness that you can find in small towns without the standard chain take-over...Anyway I have been on a mission to find decent chicken fried steak. Its funny how so many roadside cafe's botch this dish, claiming: 'home-made'. So I was a bit skeptical pulling in here...
Well, I have to say they have the best chicken fried steak I have had in years. (And I have it a lot). They have Small, Standard, and Lumberjack. My GF and I split the Standard..and it was big enough to feed us. It was truly home-made. Thick, juicey and yummy. Home made sausage gravy too. (My only complaint is they need to give up more!) Jewels made my gf one of the best Bloody Marys she has ever had...
Service: I see some poor reviews on Jewels in here...well in her defense I have to say I noticed she was the only server there. Busy busy busy...I guess this girl has worked there like 13years. So I can imagine she might seem a bit testy at times. Our service wasnt prompt, but it wasnt bad either. This place isnt TGI Fridays...If you want prompt, sunny smiles with suspenders and flash...then go to Applebee's, but if you are looking for 'real food' that is truly home-made and original...then try being a bit more patient.
Found this restaurant by accident, just taking a drive from Olympia. 03/04/13 about 1.30pm
1. cleanliness  Excellent
2. staff  Wonderful
3. Â Food great. Try the Elk Burger.
This is a very casual dining place serving 7 days a week breakfast - straight through dinner.
Probably the best eats in the area.
After visiting Mt. Rainer, this restaurant was along the way back to Seattle. We needed a little something to eat, so we stopped in. It's seems like a small town restaurant where everyone gathers for Monday night football. The fried pickles were pretty good and we tried 2 beers that we never heard of (cause they aren't available where we are from). It was pretty slow, so service was quick.
Review Source:Great place to eat before mount rainier. They are vegetarian friendly, and its delicious. I got a garden patty on their spicy California. 5 stars. My husband has had the elk and wild bore. Said both were amazing. Onion rings are so good but you only get a couple with your burgers. Fries are great as well. It's a bit slow on the service so I took back 1 star.
Review Source:I slept as my wife drove us up to Mt. Rainier for a hike. I woke here and there, sitting up and glancing out the window to gauge how far we had come, and each time I would pull my hat back over my eyes and catch some more zs.
One of these brief moments of lucidity was as we went around a corner in Eatonville. I looked up and saw the sign for a restaurant; I didn't catch its name, but I saw the words "elk burgers." I. Love. Elk.
For the rest of our day, during our hikes and our drive back, I was thinking about this place. I couldn't wait to get back to civilization so that I could get cell reception and check menus and reviews of this mystery elk-meat palace.
The reviews were mixed, but an average of 3.5 stars, a fairly diverse menu (for a bar & grill), and rave comments about the elk burgers cemented it. We stopped at Bruno's for dinner.
The place was packed, but we were seated immediately. They had a nice patio, but thankfully we had a table inside, since our sunburns were crying out for shade.
The alcohol selection was very good, with old standards as well as microbrews on tap, bottles, wine, and a full spirits selection. I enjoyed a glass of Iron Horse Brewing's Irish Death, one of my favorite Washington beers.
We both decided to get elk burgers (surprise, surprise) for entrees - and feeling it was in the best interest of our health - we ordered some vegetables in the form of fried green beans. They were served with a garlic aioli and were crispy and juicy. Health food!
The elk burgers were served on grilled buns with mayo and cheese, and with the usual rabbit food fixin's on the side. They also came topped with grilled onions, and my wife added grilled mushrooms. The patties were cooked just the way I like them, charred on the outside and rare/mid-rare on the inside. This was ideal for tasting both the flavor of the elk meat and for enjoying the smoky proof that man had mastered the art of applying fire to animal flesh.
For dessert we shared a chocolate/Oreo milkshake. This thing was huge to the point of being ridiculous. It was so-so taste wise, nothing spectacular, and was a bit soupy. My guess is that to get the cookie bits small enough to go through a straw, the thing was blended to the point of liquification.
Service was OK, but serving staff seemed overextended. We were never neglected, and kudos to the staff for keeping up as best they could.
The menu had a wide range of items, and while most of it was typical pub grub, there were several items we would consider trying. I was also impressed that the salads I saw go out were made with mixed greens and not iceberg.
Prices were reasonable, and ambiance was comfortable.
We'll definitely be stopping by the next time we're in the area.
The service we received from Jewels, our waitress, was horrendous! Â Service was very slow and we were made to feel that we were an inconvenience. Â Our server didn't make eye contact with us the little we saw of her and after a long wait, we had to ask another waitress if our food was ready and again for drink refills. Â
The restaurant could use some help in the cleanliness department  also.  The special beverage menu was gross and there was something stuck to the wall. Â
One star is for the food...it was ok but the awful service we received overshadowed everything else. Â We will NOT be back. Â Â Sadly, this was our first trip to Eatonville and it was also our first impression.
Maybe 3 stars for food, but some of the worst service I've ever received in my life brought this to 1 star. Do NOT go here! I don't know how this place has 4 stars since even with perfect service the food was still mediocre.
I had the buffalo burger and it was acceptable. Certainly not worth the $11 pricetag. It tasted no different from a beef burger, and was on par with a fast food chain burger. The patty itself was one of those perfectly rounded kind you might find in the frozen section of your grocery store, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's where it came from. Thank god I got swiss cheese on it because it's kind of hard to mess that up. The crinkle fries were pretty good, but didn't make up for the lackluster burger. And on top of all this, I cleaned my plate and was still hungry... That should not happen after a $20 meal with appetizer and entree.
We had the potato skins for appetizer and it looked really carelessly put together. The potatoes were overdone, the bacon was over done, and then the tomatoes and green onions were just tossed haphazardly on top - and tumbled off when you picked up a skin. It was still tasty, but could have used a little more effort.
My date had the garlic chicken sandwich which he thought was pretty good, though it seemed a bit small in serving size (he was also hungry after). He got garlic fries with his meal which were absolutely disgusting. It looked like they took their regular crinkle fries and dumped grease and garlic bits on top turning them into a soggy mess.
The service was really really terrible. I'm usually really lenient about service because I know how hard that is and sometimes people are having a rough day. But literally everything went wrong and our server just didn't care. Just to name a few: Our server didn't write our order down and got mine completely wrong. He was very chatty and seemed more interested in being friends with his customers than serving them - when he actually showed up to the table. After we polished off our appetizer we waited another HOUR for our food. We ended up having to ask another waitress to get them for us because we hadn't seen him in so long - I guess he was taking a break? Who knows how long our finished meals were sitting under a heat lamp. She also brought us our only drink refill in that time and I wish I had brought cash so I could have made sure his tip went to her instead. Then after we finished our food we sat on the unlit patio in the by now dark for another 20 minutes before we got our check (we had to ask the waitress again). This guy was completely careless and then he sits at our table with us while I'm assigning the tip! This is the only time I've given less than 15% gratuity, and I don't care that I had to look him in the face while I did it.
Not  sure why this place got such poor reviews. Small town family feud a brewin? Timber mafia wars? Owner of -A- ran off with owner of -B-'s dog/wife/daughter? Not my f*cking problem.
Bruno's menu is immense and seems to cover every type of food group imaginable, but what's getting my critique time, is this place serves the best elk burger I've ever had in my life (granted I've only had elk maybe 5 times in my life a la bow hunting, but still...). Quite possibly, THE best burger ever, anywhere. Yes, including the once at the top of my list, infamous, Red Mill (which I would still drive an SUV through a line army of soccer moms just to reach the order desk).
Unfortunately while at Bruno's, I ordered a char-broiled chicken caesar salad, which was okay, but after sampling a bite off my date's elk burger it became immediately, undeniably, and excruciatingly obvious...that I had ordered the wrong damn thing.
The meat, ahhh...the meat. It was slightly smokey, juicy, firmly well-done on the outside, and tender lean reddish in the center. It tasted hearty, savory and how can I put this...CLEAN (aka: organic) I can't really explain how good it was...perhaps like a braised steak tartare - is that possible? Maybe more like seared raw tuna?
Regular beef burgers again? Ppffft. Not if I can help it.
Being stunned by the meat, I almost forgot about the cheese, sauteed onions, beefsteak tomato, crispy lettuce, pickles, and the usual suspects (mayo, ketchup, mustard) -all combined with a sea of sweet potato fries and onion rings.
I could review the staff, but I honestly don't even recall who we were served by. For all I know it could have been aliens, Japanese tourists wearing Smokey-The-Bear cheerleading outfits, or a gaggle of Elvis impersonators, it just didn't matter cuz the elk burger was so damn good.
Go on a sunny day and soak in the rays on their patio.
I'm warning you. I will return.
It pains me to be honest about the burgers because the service was great. Â But here's the lowdown on the grub:
- three angus burgers - all cooked beyond dry leather
- one bison burger - also cooked beyond dry leather
- And the most painful thing of all...they screwed up bacon
Even after the solid reviews here, I had tempered expectations. Â It is Eatonville after all. Â But good grief, how do you mess up bacon? Â They made the bacon dry and leathery, too. Â We could have spent less money and enjoyed our food more taking a trip to a drive-thru.
If you go here, I recommend sticking to beer and french fries...unless you like eating dry leather more than I like using dry leather as a comparison for bad food.
Great food, friendly service, reasonable prices... and it's named after a rescue dog!
I enjoyed a excellent breakfast here on a Saturday morning: a big, juicy, perfectly cooked and seasoned ham steak (the 'standard' portion was big enough, I wasn't brave enough to go for the one-pounder that was on special) with eggs, hashbrowns, toast, and some pretty good coffee. Â Everyone in my group enjoyed their meal, and our server was awesome!
Looking forward to stopping here again the next time I happen to be in or near Eatonville; looks like this place could be a fun place to dine in the evening as well, with a full bar and lots of beer selections.
This looks to be the place to go in Eatonville. Â We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon at 1 and it was packed with people eating breakfast. Â We had been up several hours so we went instead with beers and lunch out on the patio. Â Tried the deep fried pickles but did not care for them. Â Too salty or something...
I had a "black and blue" burger. Â spicy rub on the blackened burger and it had real blue cheese crumbles, thick bacon and a dressing. Â It was really spicy and salty but I really liked it.
Service was a little slow but I think everyone showed up at once so it is understandable.
Since this town doesn't have many options, we landed at Bruno's and had overall a good experience. We shared with my friend a dinner plate as the portions are BIG. We had a fried chicken that came with our choice of potatoes (smashed or fried), steamed veggies and a choice of salad or soup. Their garlic roasted soup was really good for the chill weather. If you like dogs, you'll feel a second reason to stop at this place.
Friendly service and good location on your way in or out from Mt. Rainier.
I'm an Eatonville local and I must say Bruno's is by far the worst restaurant in town. The first time we went there we got the "All you can eat chicken strips" and it was terrible. All it was, was breaded chicken fat. To demonstrate how bad it actually was, I threw a few small pieces of the chicken fat at the wall near our table and it literally stuck to it for several seconds. It was completely disgusting.
Then, the second time we went there, the rest of my family ordered sea food, along with a salad, and I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken. Once again, it was breaded chicken fat smashed to a patty with the outside being like leather. It was so disgusting I seriously couldn't finish it. When I tried to give it to my father not even he could eat it. The food both times had been horrific. And to add to it the food took forever to be cooked and literally all the staff in sight were students from the local high school.
After giving the place a try twice, we will never be going there again. I honestly believe that the only reason this restaurant is able to stay in business is because the have the most convenient location in town. It simply a tourist trap for those driving by. If your planning to eat in Eatonville hit up Tall Timbers. Their food is so much better.
Yelpers, my faith in you has been restored. Recently, I've been led astray by some of your reviews, but in this case, the blind squirrel found its nut. My party gave 3 different burgers a shot and they all hit the bullseye.
I decided to go w/the garlic chicken sandwich with mixed results. Great flavor and the ciabatta bread was so soft and delicious, I wanted to make a pillow out of it, then eat it in the morning for breakfast. Unfortunately, the chicken was so dry, a dining companion that doesn't like tomatos graciously offered up the slice from her burger to take the edge off.
The fries were perfectly fried homesliced sticks of potato wonderment. They offer you a second helping for free, God bless 'em. Irish Death on tap, 'enuf said. The menu was quite extensive and varied. A bit pricey but justified considering the food quality. Service - fast, friendly, casual. Nice place.
One of the better places to eat in Eatonville. Â The service was good, the food fresh-cooked. Â I got a buffalo burger which was tasty, if fairly standard other than the meat being buffalo. Â Patti got biscuits and sausage gravy, and there was precious little sausage.
A nice small-town joint, with a helpful staff. Â The drawback -- the food is really just OK.
A place to stop as you leave Mt Rainier, but not a destination.
Not exactly a fan, but there were enough pleasant things about this place to give it a good rating. Lots of TVs with no sound, and some great XM radio classic rock playing at just the right volume. Â The food was very americana, nothing original, but well executed and fresh tasting. Â They had a great selection of beers on tap, including Irish Death, one of my favorites! Â Prices were kinda high for a small town diner, but not a rip off like the places closer to Mt. Rainier. Â The service was very friendly and casual, just the way I like it. Â The clams were just OK, the salmon and prawns fresh and cooked correctly, and the burger greasy and flavorful. Â But Irish Death stole the show, and just made everything more "Umami". Â To wrap it up: Â
Prices-3 stars
Food- 3 stars
Service-4 stars
Atmosphere-4 stars
Alcohol- 5 stars
Eatonville, you got yourself a keeper!
With a black lab as a mascot how can you go wrong :-)?
We stopped in on the way home from the Northwest Trek and both had bacon cheese burgers. The fries were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, but rather over salted.
Here is the break down Burger of the Month Style:
Bun - Soft and large, but didn't hold up to the juicy burger.
Burger - thick and tasty
Veggies - good lettuce, bland tomatoes
Cheese - just enough with a good tang.
Next summer we will likely stop to give the pizza and salads a try,
I was absolutely starving one afternoon and decided to stop in while on vacation here in Eatonville vising my parents. Before walking in, I always pictured the stereotypical waitress chomping on gum asking what kind of diner food I wanted to order. I was pleasantly surprised to see a young, upbeat waitress greet me at the door. The inside of this place is very modern and well-done for such a small town. The bar has at least 3 flat screens with games playing and is just far enough away from the rest of the dining area for those who just want to eat. I ordered the Cruiser burger which they advertise with the Angus beef. I was absolutely floored as to how good this burger was. A few days later I brought my mom, we had the same burgers and drinks. I really hope this place stays open for years to come so I always have a good place to eat while visiting the folks without having to drive 45 minute to Puyallup.
