Was staying in Mauston for a baseball tournament and found the Buckhorn on Yelp. Â Upon arriving we were seated right away. Â The restaurant was quite full and the bar was hopping. Â Our waitress came over right away and took our drink orders. Â We also put in a couple of appetizers, onion rings and cheese curds, both were good. Â The main courses were a mixed bag. Â I had a NY strip, which you order by the ounce, I did 16oz. and it was very good! Â My wife had the pulled pork and it was dry and not very good. Â The rest of the food was fair to good. Â The food prep times are on the long side, but they have a sign on the table notifying diners that the food can take 30 minutes to an hour. Â All in all I was happy with the Buckhorn and would recommend it to anyone in the area. Â For the location, and considering the lack of options this place is pretty decent..
Review Source:We have gone here 2 years in a row on a family vacation. Â The first year, the service was slow, but almost acceptable and the food was good. Â The second year we sat on the patio near a large group and was completely ignored for about 1 hour. Â No menus, nothing. Â We had 2 small children who were hungry and the waitresses were dealing with the larger group outside but ignored us. Â We finally decided to leave and the man who was outside yelled after us to wait, they would give us free drinks and I said, I don't need a drink I need to feed my children. Â We left. Â Not going to try it again this year unless my kids are ready for a LONG wait. This place was recommended as an area favorite but I cannot imagine most people would want to put up with that.
