Cinco De Mayo

Hidden Mexican Gem in Mauston WI.  A few miles of the interstate but the food is excellent with great flavors and generous portions.  We were there Labor day weekend  no wait and great service too.

A hidden gem! We have a lake house rental called Quiet Cove on Castle Rock Lake (Chicago natives), and found this place 4 years after we built. It's in a little strip mall across the street from the KMart/Festival shopping center and is easily overlooked.

Authentic Mexican food, and I say that as "una huera" who was married to a Mexican man and knows her way around Mexican food and cooking (learned from my suegra, aka, mom-in-law). Lunch prices can't be beat for what you get. I'm a big fan of the quesadillas, which are usually a lunch special. Very filling. Love the enchildadas suizas. Margaritas are awesome. Every entree I've had so far has been excellent.

But one word of caution... We used to love to get their flan, which is some of the best I've had, but... one day, the waiter brought it out, and it was moldy. Probably had been sitting around from the night before. I would probably get it again (it was that good), but more likely on a Saturday night when it would probably be fresher (with more turnover). We sent it back, and of course, they didn't charge us for it. Don't hold this against them... It's the only negative we've ever encountered.

If you are going up to Castle Rock Lake (and perhaps staying at Quiet Cove) and love Mexican food, you MUST check this place out!
